The concept that I am focussing on for ‘What is Good?’ is Small Talk. Which is a topic that a lot of people shy away from and find very awkward, I want to change this and encourage small talk, trating it as an art that can be mastered. Due to our recent obsession with technology it is rare for two strangers to ever talk to each other, which is a shame as with that there is an oppurtunity to meet some interesting and inspiring people.

"Small talk is an informal type of discourse that does not cover any functional topics of conversation or any transactions that need to be addressed.�

Beginning research into small talk I found that the msot popular topics of conversation are to do with the weather, food or appearance. I watched a documentary that gave an insight into the personal lives of people simply by speaking to the in an elevator.

As I want to teach people how to get better at small talk the most relevant application of this will be to brand a pub that is designed to encourage small talk and bring strangers together.

This will make for a more effective project than if I were to design a guide or other product that taught small talk but wasn’t connected to any bigger purpose.

3. Aesthetic Approach

I want to develop somewhat of a personal style that incorporates more illustration into the traditional corporate branding route, using neat vectors and bright colours to make an interactive, relaxed and enjoyable environment.

4.Formats/Range

Using the application of branding a bar brings with it the oppurtunity to design a vast range of products. I want there to be vinyls on and inside elevators, a drinks menu designed to instigate small talk, glasses and beer bottles, interior decoration and wayfinding as well as web based promotion etc..

5. Processes

The main processes that I want to apply in this project are embossing, as I have tried this before and think I’ll be able to do it more successfully this time, Binding as this is something I have note yet tried and also I would like to build a website for the bar as this is something I want to improve on.
