Tea towels are becoming more of a unique gift and personal product with companies such as To Dry For and The Clever Baggers selling unique artist designed tea towels for around ÂŁ10 each. It seems a strange match putting nice graphics on something that is used to clean up mess. You must produce a set of 4 tea towels that develop as they get dirtier, creating an interactive and personal experience with the user.

The packaging must communicate the light heartedness and fun of the product as well as securely containing and displaying the product. The tea towels could be bought as gifts so the design must have universal appeal and not intentionally exclude any audience. The tea towels themselves will be screen printed using 1 colour only As custom tea towels retail at a considerable amount of money this product must be finished to a high quality standard.

VISUAL RESEARCH + AUDIENCE As the range will span 4 different products I need to think about tiering and how each product will have it’s own identity as well as fitting with the set.

The audience that shops at Joe Browns- willing to pay a little bit extra for something with a bit of personality and unique qualitiesis similar to the market for this product. Looking at their tone of voice and brand personality will help towards developing an identity for these tea towels.

VISUAL DEVELOPMENT Having identified Joe Browns as a similar audience to who I was targeting with this I wanted a logo that was quite liberal, fun and loose. The wave within the type references the physical material of the tea towels. The lockup that houses the logo is the same dimensions of the tea towels themselves - this folds over the top of the packaging- like a tea towel draped over a handle/ washing line. For the main design of each package I learnt how to make pattern swatches that lock together over large areas, this was helpful when trying to give each product a unique identity whilst also being strong as a set.
