Obituary
Clive Kim Gaskins was born on May 7, 1957 in the settlement of West End, Grand Bahama. He was the third son of the late Audrey Archer Gaskins Taylor. In 1959, Clive, along with his two brothers, Garth and Joseph (deceased) relocated to New Providence, to join their mother who had come to Nassau in order to assist her niece, Marcia Smith, a student at Government High School. At the age of four Clive attended St. George’s Pre School. Clive disliked school and every time the housekeeper, Mrs. Violet (deceased) would walk him to school through Carew Street, Clive would return home through Talbot Street and Mrs. Violet would find him sitting and waiting for her at home. Clive attended Eastern Junior School and later St. Augustine’s High School. After he graduated from St. Augustine, he worked at BORCO in Grand Bahama for one year. During the summers, Clive and his brothers, Garth and Joey, were sent to West End to their aunt Alvord Smith (deceased). She laid down the rule that none of them were to go swimming until she came from work. Clive, who was a lover of the sea, blatantly disobeyed this rule and would go swimming. The result

was a beating from her on each occasion. However, that didn’t stop him from doing so. On one occasion, he went swimming and when he returned home, he threw up his hands and said “you might as well beat me.” - his aunt could not left him alone. Despite his initial dislike for school, he always wanted to further education. He enrolled in Miami Dade College where be obtained an associate degree and later a bachelor’s and master’s Degree from the University of South Florida. He obtained his doctorate degree from Philadelphia
School of Ophthalmology, and upon his return to The Bahamas, began working his own practice as an ophthalmologist. He worked with Dr. Richard Knowles for five years and then in 1988, opened is own practice Palmdale Optical, where he provided service to the general public for 35 years. A visit to Palmdale Optical was an “experience.” His working manner was friendly, warm, and caring. He was happy to share his life with his patients and in that way, they shared their lives with him. He was not only a doctor but was a brother and a friend. He was a colorful character, not only in the way he dressed, but with his infectious smile and personality. An appointment with him could easily go well past the allotted time as he joked and laughed with patients, big and small, as they sat in his darkened office. He was faithful member of St. Christopher’s Anglican Church, Lyford Cay. However, he maintained contact with his childhood churches, St. George’s Anglican Church, in the “Valley” and St. Mary Magdalene Church, West End, Grand Bahama. In all instances, he supported the work of these churches, financially and materially. Clive was a decent, kind, and generous brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He will be sorely missed. May he rest in peace. Predeceased by Mother, Audrey Taylor, Brother Joey Gaskins Sr. Clive is survived by his daughter: Aliyah Gaskins; his brother: Garth (Karen) Woodside;

THE FUNERAL EUCHARIST The Use of Holy Water and Incense at Funerals Holy Water is used for the purpose of Baptism, blessing of persons and objects. It is especially used to remind us, the living, of our Baptism into the family of God, and the vows and promises made at our Baptism. The smoke of the Incense is symbolic of sanctification and purification. It also symbolizes the prayers of the faithful (Rev. 8:3-4). (Ps. 141:2). RECEPTION OF THE BODY At the reception of the body, the congregation stands and faces, where possible, the west door. MINISTER: With faith in Jesus Christ, we receive the body of our brother CLIVE KIM for burial. Our brother CLIVE was washed in Holy Baptism and anointed with the Holy Spirit. Let us therefore, with confidence, pray to God our Heavenly Father, the Giver of life, that He will raise him to perfection in the company of the Saints. MINISTER: ALL:
The Lord be with you. And also with you.
MINISTER: Let us pray. O God of grace and glory, we remember before you this day our brother CLIVE. We thank you for giving him to us, his family and friends, to know and love as a companion on our earthly pilgrimage. In your boundless compassion, console us who mourn. Give us faith to see in death the gate of eternal life, so that in quiet confidence we may continue our course on earth, until, by your call, we are reunited with those who have gone before; through Jesus Christ our Lord. ALL: Amen. As the procession enters the church, the following sentences are read: Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and I am the life; he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die.” {John 11: 25-26} The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His compassion never fails: every morning they are renewed. {Lamentations 3: 22-23} 8 | Dr. Clive Kim Gaskins | A Life & Legacy
Jesus said, “Let not your hearts be troubled; believe in God, believe also in me.” {John 14:1} I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. {Romans 8: 38-39} If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord; so then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. For to this end Christ died and lived again, that He might be Lord both of the dead and of the living. {Romans 14: 8-9} We brought nothing into this world, and we take nothing out. The Lord gives, and the Lord takes away: Blessed be the name of the Lord. {Job 1:21} The Congregation sits for the Tributes. TRIBUTE | Annette Poitier MUSICAL SELECTION | Alvordo Watkins AS I KNEW HIM | Wayne Smith {Brother} The congregation stands for the Introit Hymn THROUGH ALL THE CHANGING SCENES OF LIFE Words: Natum Tate & Nicholas Brady, 1698 Music: WILTSHIRE, George T. Smart, 1795 Through all the changing scenes of life, In trouble and in joy, The praises of my God shall still My heart and tongue employ.
O make but trial of His love; Experience will decide How blest are they, and only they, Who in His truth confide.
O magnify the Lord with me, With me exalt His name; When in distress to Him I called, He to my rescue came.
Fear Him, ye saints, and you will then Have nothing else to fear; Make you His service your delight; Your wants shall be His care.
The hosts of God encamp around The dwellings of the just; Deliverance He affords to all Who on His succor trust.
To Father, Son and Holy Ghost The God whom we adore Be Glory as it was, is now And shall be evermore.

THE COLLECT MINISTER: ALL:
The Lord be with you. And also, with you.
MINISTER: Let us pray. Almighty God, we remember before you today your servant, CLIVE KIM, and we pray that, having opened to him the gates of a larger life, you will receive him more and more into your joyful service, that, with all who have served you in the past, he may share in the eternal victory of Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. ALL: Amen. THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD The congregation sits for the Ministry of the Word THE FIRST LESSON | ECCLESIASTICUS 38:1-15 | Khara Woodside, {Niece} READER:
A Reading from the Word of God found in book of Ecclesiasticus, the 38th chapter, beginning at the 1st verse.
Honor the physician with the honor due him, according to your need of him, for the Lord created him; for healing comes from the Most High, and he will receive a gift from the king. The skill of the physician lifts up his head, and in the presence of great men he is admired. The Lord created medicines from the earth, and a sensible man will not despise them. Was not water made sweet with a tree in order that his power might be known? And he gave skill to men that he might be glorified in his marvelous works. By them he heals and takes away pain; the pharmacist makes of them a compound. His works will never be finished; and from him health is upon the face of the earth. My son, when you are sick do not be negligent, but pray to the Lord, and he will heal you. Give up your faults and direct your hands aright, and cleanse your heart from all sin. Offer a sweet-smelling sacrifice, and a memorial portion of fine flour, and pour oil on your offering, as much as you can afford. And give the physician his place, for the Lord created him; let him not leave you, for there is need of him. There is a time when success lies in the hands of physicians, for they too will pray to the Lord that he should grant them success in diagnosis and in healing, for the sake of preserving life. He who sins before his Maker, may he fall into the care of a physician. READER: ALL:

PSALM 23 The congregation remains seated for the responsorial reading of Psalm 23 Reader: Ronald McKenzie {Brother} 1 The LORD is my shepherd; * I shall not be in want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures * and leads me beside still waters. 3 He revives my soul * and guides me along right pathways for his Name’s sake. 10 | Dr. Clive Kim Gaskins | A Life & Legacy
4 Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil; * for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You spread a table before me in the presence of those who trouble me; * you have anointed my head with oil, and my cup is running over. 6 Surely your goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, * and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. Rest eternal grant unto him, O Lord And let light perpetual shine upon him. THE EPISTLE | 2nd Corinthians 4:16-5:9 | Mr. Joey Gaskins Jr. (Nephew) READER:
A Reading from the word of God found in 2nd Corinthians, the 4th chapter Beginning at the 16th verse.
We do not lose heart. Even though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed day by day. For this slight momentary affliction is preparing us for an eternal weight of glory beyond all measure, because we look not at what can be seen but at what cannot be seen; for what can be seen is temporary, but what cannot be seen is eternal. For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this tent we groan, longing to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling-- if indeed, when we have taken it off, we will not be found naked. For while we are still in this tent, we groan under our burden, because we wish not to be unclothed but to be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee. So we are always confident; even though we know that while we are at home in the body, we are away from the Lord-- for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we do have confidence, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him. READER: ALL:

Martha said to Jesus, ‘Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask of him.’ Jesus said to her, ‘Your brother will rise again.’ Martha said to him, ‘I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.’ Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?’ She said to him, ‘Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one coming into the world.’ GOSPELLOR: ALL:

JERUSALEM THE GOLDEN Words: Bernard of Morlaix, 1146 Music: EWING, Alexander Ewing, 1853 Jerusalem the golden, With milk and honey blest, Beneath thy contemplation Sink heart and voice oppressed. I know not, O I know not, What joys await us there, What radiancy of glory, What bliss beyond compare.
There is the throne of David, And there, from care released, The shout of them that triumph, The song of them that feast; And they, who with their leader, Have conquered in the fight, Forever and forever Are clad in robes of white.
They stand, those halls of Zion, All jubilant with song, And bright with many an angel, And all the martyr throng; The Prince is ever in them, The daylight is serene. The pastures of the blessed Are decked in glorious sheen.
O sweet and blessèd country, The home of God’s elect! O sweet and blessèd country, That eager hearts expect! Jesus, in mercy bring us To that dear land of rest, Who art, with God the Father, And Spirit, ever blessed. OFFERTORY PRAYER

AND CAN IT BE Words: Charles Wesley, 1739 Music: SAGINA, Thomas Campbell, And can it be that I should gain An interest in the Savior’s blood? Died He for me, who caused His pain— For me, who Him to death pursued? Amazing love! How can it be, That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me? Amazing love! How can it be, That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
Long my imprisoned spirit lay, Fast bound in sin and nature’s night; Thine eye diffused a quickening ray— I woke, the dungeon flamed with light; My chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth, and followed Thee. My chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.
’Tis mystery all: th’Immortal dies: Who can explore His strange design? In vain the firstborn seraph tries To sound the depths of love divine. ’Tis mercy all! Let earth adore, Let angel minds inquire no more. ’Tis mercy all! Let earth adore; Let angel minds inquire no more.
No condemnation now I dread; Jesus, and all in Him, is mine; Alive in Him, my living head, And clothed in righteousness divine, Bold I approach th- eternal throne, And claim the crown, through Christ my own. Bold I approach th- eternal throne, And claim the crown, through Christ my own.
He left His Father’s throne above So free, so infinite His grace— Emptied Himself of all but love, And bled for Adam’s helpless race: ’Tis mercy all, immense and free, For O my God, it found out me! ’Tis mercy all, immense and free, For O my God, it found out me! Through Jesus Christ our Lord; who rose victorious from the dead, and comforts us with the blessed hope of life eternal. For to Your faithful people, O Lord, life is changed, not ended; and when our mortal body lies in death, there is prepared for us a dwelling place eternal in the heavens. Therefore we praise You, joining our voices with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven, who forever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of Your name: ALL: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might; heaven and earth are full of Your glory, Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. MINISTER: Sovereign Lord and Father, to you be glory and praise for ever. In your boundless wisdom you brought creation into being; In your great love you fashioned us in your image; In your tender compassion you sent your Son, Jesus Christ, our Saviour, to share our human nature; In the power of the Holy Spirit, He overcame the power of sin and death and brought your people to new birth as first fruits of your new creation. On the night that He was betrayed He took bread, and when He had given thanks to you, He broke it and gave it to his disciples and said: “Take this, and eat it: This is my Body which is given for you, Do this for the remembrance of me.” And after supper He took the cup of wine: and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them and said: “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.” MINISTER: All:
Therefore, Father, according to the command of your dearly beloved Son We remember His death We proclaim His resurrection. We await His coming in glory
MINISTER: And we offer you, Father, our sacrifice of thanks and praise. Send your Holy Spirit on these gifts of bread and wine that they may become the Body and Blood of your Son, Jesus, our Lord and Redeemer. As we partake of this holy food of new and unending life, may your Holy Spirit establish us as a royal priesthood with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Blessed John the Baptist, Blessed George and all your sons and daughters who share in your eternal inheritance; Through Jesus Christ our Lord. With Him and in Him and through Him, by the power of the Holy Spirit, we worship you, Father Almighty, with all who stand before you in earth and heaven, in songs of everlasting praise: All: Blessing and honour and glory and power be yours for ever and ever. Amen. THE LORD’S PRAYER MINISTER: As our Saviour has taught us, so we pray ALL: Our Father, who art in heaven hallowed be Thy Name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

IT’S ALRIGHT NOW There was a time I traveled A lonely sinful road Beneath a heavy burden bending low But now all things are different For Jesus look my load It’s alright now, I am his own It’s alright now for I am in my savior’s care It’s alright now my Saviour hears and answers prayer He’ll walk beside me -til I climb the heavenly stair And everything is alight now.
A down a lonely pathway Without a friend to guide I walked in sin and sorrow all alone ‘Till Jesus cane and found me And drew me to his side It’s alright now for I’m his own No more in sin I wander No more In darkness roam The Lord has placed my feet on higher ground Each day new heights I’m gaining My soul is nearing home It’s alright now I’m heaven bound.
As the body is born from the church, the following sentences are said: Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and giving life to those in the tomb. The Sun of Righteousness is gloriously risen, giving light to those who sat in darkness and in the shadow of death. The Lord will guide our feet into the way of peace, having taken away the sin of the world. Christ will open the kingdom of heaven to all who believe in his Name, saying, “Come, O Blessed of my Father; inherit the kingdom prepared for you.” Into paradise may the angels lead you. At your coming, may the Martyrs receive you, and bring you into the Holy City, Jerusalem.
