OBITUARY

In a time in the little city of Nassau, when life was ohhhh so simple and the Melody of “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes” by the Platters could be heard in the air.

At 8:45am, on a Sunday morning, (Father’s Day), a five and a quarter pound baby girl was born to Theodore and Andray Charlow. She was given the name Anastasia Patricia at baptism.

She would be the first of seven children, who would later affectionately be called ‘THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN’ by their parents.

Anastasia grew up in an active home, with her being the eldest, a lot was expected from her. She loved cooking, baking, music and studied piano lessons with the late Henry Moss. The home was always filled with singing, as she and her siblings sang along with their parents, the songs of “The sound of music, “Mary Poppins”, “My Fair Lady and Frank Sinatra just to name a few....

Her early education started at Church of God preschool, Stephen Dillet, C.C.D classes (to obtain a deeper understanding of her faith,) Highbury High (now called R.M. Bailey, where she graduated in 1976) and C.O.B where she was seconded to ZNS TV 13. Anastasia was the first female Graphic Artist at ZNS. After leaving ZNS she went on to attend Miami Dade Community College, and then completed her Marketing Degree at F.I.U.

Her varied work experiences afforded her to work in such stores as Jordan Marsh as a manager, Burdines, Mademoiselle and Saint Michael’s, here at home.

Anastasia’s dream was to one day become one of the top exporters of our culture, through the exportation of her ‘Lil Locals’.

Her travels took her to places like Paris and England. Her mother also accompanied her to Greece, North Africa and Alaska. Being extensively traveled, she was adventurous enough to drive from Miami to New York alone.

Anastasia, with her melodious voice, sang with a vast amount of local Bahamian groups, with one of them being Ambasah, and also sang with the Our Lady’s Night Choir, with Mr. Swaby being the director. She had a love for sports, playing golf, tennis and was an avid, faithful Miami Dolphins football fan.

Having an extraordinary entrepreneurial spirit, she used her gifted hands to invest and explore many different ventures. She was the sole proprietor of ‘The Midnight Spot’ and ‘The Lil Locals Enterprise, with her line being sold in the Linen Shop, and the Arcade downtown with an ‘exclusive line’ that was only sold at the Atlantis Paradise

Island. Tourism rented and purchased the ‘Lil Locals’ as gifts for special business clients. She was also a partner at ‘The Le Chateau at Postern Gate’, Anastasia, within the last ten years was presented with health challenges and with a valiant spirit, she triumphed through each challenge with a smile and not complaining. With many visits, to the doctor in 2024, she spent Thanksgiving and Christmas in the hospital. On the morning of February 17th taking a turn for the worst, she slipped away into the arms of our savior at 4:05 pm.

BLESSING

OF THE BODY

Priest: I bless + the body of Anastasia with the holy water that recalls her baptism of which St. Paul writes: All of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death. By baptism into His death, we were buried together with Him, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live a new life. For if we have been united with Him by likeness to His death, so shall we be united with Him by likeness to His resurrection.

ENTRANCE HYMN | “The King Of Love, My Shepherd Is”

The King of love my Shepherd is, Whose goodness faileth never: I nothing lack if I am His And He is mine forever.

Where streams of living water flow My ransomed soul He leadeth, And where the verdant pastures grow, With food celestial feedeth.

In death’s dark vale I fear no ill With Thee, dear Lord, beside me; Thy rod and staff my comfort still, Thy cross before to guide me.

People: Yes! We believe that Jesus is the Anointed One, the Son of God, he who is to come into the world.

Priest: We must work the works of Him who sent me while it is day; night comes when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life. (John 8:12)

Priest: The Lord be with you.

People: And with your spirit.

Priest: Let us pray:

Almighty Father, You raised Your Son Jesus Christ from the dead so that we who believe Him to be the Light of the world may, with Him be brought to the fullness of life in His resurrection. Grant, we ask You, that our sister, Anastasia who has left this world might merit Your forgiveness for the sins which she may have committed and inherit eternal life through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord who lives and reigns with You, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, One God, forever and ever.

People: Amen.

LITURGY OF THE WORD

FIRST READING | Wisdom 3:1-9 | Charles William-Major, Jr.

A reading from the book of Wisdom He accepted them as a holocaust. The souls of the just are in the hand of God, and no torment shall touch them. They seemed, in the view of the foolish, to be dead; and their passing away was thought an affliction and their going forth from us, utter destruction. But they are in peace.

For if before men, indeed they be punished, yet is their hope full of immortality; Chastised a little, they shall be greatly blessed, because God tried them and found them worthy of himself. As gold in the furnace, he proved them, and as sacrificial offerings he took them to himself. In the time of their visitation they shall shine, and shall dart about as sparks through stubble; they shall judge nations and rule over peoples, and the Lord shall be their King forever.

Those who trust in him shall understand truth, and the faithful shall abide with him in love: because grace and mercy are with his holy ones, and his care is with his elect.

The Word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL | “The Lord’s My Shepherd”

The Lord’s my Shepherd, I’ll not want; He makes me down to lie

In pastures green; He leadeth me

The quiet waters by.

My soul He doth restore again, And me to walk doth make

Within the paths of righteousness, E’en for His own name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk in death’s dark vale, Yet will I fear no ill; For Thou art with me, and Thy rod And staff my comfort still.

My table Thou hast furnished me In presence of my foes; My head Thou dost with oil anoint, And my cup overflows.

Goodness and mercy all my life shall surely follow me; and in God’s house forevermore, my dwelling place shall be.

SECOND READING | Romans 6:3-9 | Kathy Davis

A reading from the letter of Paul to the Romans

Are you unaware that we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were indeed buried with him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live in newness of life. For if we have grown into union with him through a death like his, we shall also be united with him in the resurrection. We know that our old self was crucified with him, so that our sinful body might be done away with, that we might no longer be in slavery to sin. For a dead person has been absolved from sin. If, then, we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him. We know that Christ, raised from the dead, dies no more; death no longer has power over him.

The Word of the Lord.

RECESSIONAL HYMN | “Abide With Me”

Abide with me, fast falls the eventide; The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide. When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day; Earth’s joys grow dim; its glories pass away; Change and decay in all around I see; O Thou who changest not, abide with me.

Come now in power, as the King of kings, All kind and good, with healing in Thy wings, Save from my woes, and hear O Lord my pleaCome, Friend of sinners, and abide with me.

I need Thy presence every passing hour. What but Thy grace can foil the tempter’s power? Who, like Thyself, my Guide and Stay can be? Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.

I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless; Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness. Where is death’s sting? Where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still, if Thou abide with me.

Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes; Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies. Heaven’s morning breaks, & earth’s vain shadows flee; In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

+ AT THE CEMETERY +

Priest: Let us pray:

Our sister Anastasia has gone to her rest in the peace of Christ. May the Lord now welcome her to the table of God’s children in heaven!

With faith and hope in eternal life, let us assist her with our prayers.

Let us pray to the Lord also for ourselves. May we who mourn be reunited one day with our sister; together may we meet Christ Jesus when he who is our life appears in glory.

Priest: We read in Sacred Scripture:

“Come, you who are blessed by my Father, says the Lord, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.”

PRAYERS OVER THE GRAVE

Priest: Lord Jesus Christ, by your own three days in the tomb, you hallowed the graves of all who believe in you and so made the grave a sign of hope that promises resurrection even as it claims our mortal bodies.

Grant that our sister may sleep here in peace until you awaken her to glory, for you are the resurrection and the life. Then she will see you face to face and in your light will see light and know the splendour of God, for you live and reign for ever and ever.

People: Amen.

Priest:

By Your coming as man

By Your birth.

By Your baptism and fasting.

By Your suffering and Cross.

GRAVESITE HYMNS | “And Can It Be”

And can it be that I should gain An int’rest in the Savior’s blood? Died He for me, who caused His pain— For me, who Him to death pursued? Amazing love! How can it be, That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

Refrain: Amazing love! How can it be, That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?

’Tis myst’ry all: th’ Immortal dies: Who can explore His strange design? In vain the firstborn seraph tries To sound the depths of love divine. ’Tis mercy all! Let earth adore, Let angel minds inquire no more.

He left His Father’s throne above— So free, so infinite His grace— Emptied Himself of all but love, And bled for Adam’s helpless race: ’Tis mercy all, immense and free, For, O my God, it found out me!

Long my imprisoned spirit lay, Fast bound in sin and nature’s night; Thine eye diffused a quick’ning ray— I woke, the dungeon flamed with light; My chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.

No condemnation now I dread; Jesus, and all in Him, is mine; Alive in Him, my living Head, And clothed in righteousness divine, Bold I approach th’ eternal throne, And claim the crown, through Christ my own.

“Sing The Wondrous Love of Jesus”

Sing the wondrous love of Jesus, Sing His mercy and His grace; In the mansions bright and blessed He’ll prepare for us a place.

Refrain:

When we all get to heaven, What a day of rejoicing that will be! When we all see Jesus, We’ll sing and shout the victory!

While we walk the pilgrim pathway, Clouds will overspread the sky; But when trav’ling days are over, Not a shadow, not a sigh.

Let us then be true and faithful, Trusting, serving every day; Just one glimpse of Him in glory Will the toils of life repay.

Onward to the prize before us!

Soon His beauty we’ll behold; Soon the pearly gates will open; We shall tread the streets of gold.

“MY SPECIAL LOVE”

THE MAGNIFICENT “7” CHAIN IS BROKEN.

Anastasia you were the first of seven. There was nothing too good for you my children. You were the first to go to college at home and abroad and away you had two siblings in your care. I wanted your best and your father wanted perfection. I thank you again, I know it was not easy for you or them. We were not happy that you decided to work, but you did well. Bahamians, when traveled, would always say how much you helped them. You were so talented Stasia, we allowed all of you to follow your dreams. I taught the girls and your Dad taught the boys. We had an awesome task, having a child for every day of the week, but we had fun. I remember the court hearings at the dinner table, the school nights and the many activities I attended. Stasia I learned so much from you. When you are the oldest, much is expected of you and you did well. You loved your siblings and they loved you. We will all miss your good cooking, which I taught you and you surpassed me, and all your treats. Stasia you always shared good and not so good areas in your life. I would help you carry as many crosses as I could but Mom, (Elenor) as you called me, could not help you this time, but you had Jesus as he did it at Calvary for you and the whole world because he loved us so much. Now rest, in him, with your Dad and other family and friends until we meet again when we all worship, sing and dance around God’s throne. You and I know that you, with your voice, and feet, can do both, so well. My first love, you know how much Mom love you and I always will. I knew how much you loved me, by you pampering with gifts. I never told you that you were my daughter and friend. Rest love. I’m so thankful that as a Eucharist Minister, the last thing I did was give to you your sacrament and a kiss. You prayed with me, so until we meet again, you made Dad and Mom proud.

Love Forever, Mom.

And… one day it happened,

In a blink of an eye, Without a chance to say goodbye… You were gone, “The Magnificent 7”

As Mommy called us all

Our lives… suddenly was Broken…

The one who started it off, the happy girl, “Our Big Sister” You were there for us all, Family functions will never be the same… Those delicious dishes that you made With such love,

The dance moves that only you had…

Your unique laughter we can still hear…

Ready to be there once we called on you STASIA……

Your song has been silenced…

And your heart no longer beats,

The day has come, for your departure, “YOUR CHAINS FELL OFF, YOUR HEART IS NOW FREE”

So say hello to Daddy for us, We will never forget you…

The memories so many, Although no longer here, but in Heaven

We will always be “THE MAGNIFICANT 7”

Your Siblings, Abby, Sophie, Teddy, Pierre, Mia and Marcy…

MESSAGE OF GRATITUDE

We, the family extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to the many friends and family for each and every act of kindness shown to us during this most difficult time. Your prayers, visits, calls, messages and well wishes will always be remembered.

We Sincerely Thank Everyone of You
