salms 31:10-31

Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. The heart of her husband safely trusts her; So he will have no lack of gain. She does him good and not evil. All the days of her life. She seeks wool and flax, and willingly works with her hands. She is like the merchant ships, She brings her food from afar. She also rises while it is yet night, and provides food for her household, And a portion for her maidservants. She considers a field and buys it; From her profits she plants a vineyard. She girds herself with strength, And strengthens her arms. She perceives that her merchandise is good, And her lamp does not go out by night. She stretches out her hands to the distaff, And her hand holds the spindle. She extends her hand to the poor, Yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of snow for her household, For all her household is clothed with scarlet. She makes tapestry for herself; Her clothing is fine linen and purple. Her husband is known in the gates, When he sits among the elders of the land. She makes linen garments and sells them, And supplies sashes for the merchants. Strength and honor are her clothing; She shall rejoice in time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, And on her tongue is the law of kindness. She watches over the ways of her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her: “Many daughters have done well, but you excel them all. Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates.

December 3, 1938 - March 9, 2014 On the 3rd day of December, 1938 in the beautiful seaside settlement of the Bluff Eleuthera, the first of 3 children was born to Lillian Thompson-Neely and Rollie Neely; they named her Patricia Verona. Unfortunately, at the tender age of 3 her mother Lillian passed away giving birth to her third child. Her father later remarried the late Nathlee Neely. Due to her passing Patricia spent most of her childhood years growing up with her grandparents Courtney and Georgeanna Neely. She attended the Bluff all-age school where she excelled in all aspects of her education. After finishing school, her grandparents encouraged her to leave Eleuthera to seek better economic opportunities in the city of Nassau. During this time she became reacquainted with the handsome and debonair Haynes Dorsett and after a short engagement they were married August 26, 1958. Their union was blessed with 8 lovely children. After their union in 1958, Patricia’s desire to serve God and know more about Him grew. Encouraged by her husband to study the doctrines of the Seventh-Day Adventist church of which he was already a member, she became convinced that this was God’s true church and readily accepted its message, later being baptized into the Grant’s Town Seventh-day Adventist Church in the year 1959. Becoming immediately active in the Lord’s work, she sought various areas in which to serve including church deaconess, choir member and the Dorcas society. Wanting more out of life, she decided to enter the tourism industry selling straw items on the steps of the then Bernard Sunley building in Rawson’s square during the mid-1960’s. As a

strong independent businesswoman she was granted a stall in the Straw Market, where she sold numerous hand-made crafts, coolie hats, t-shirts, souvenirs, and the like to tourists from around the world becoming a true ambassador for her country. As an occupation, she continued in the straw vending business until the year 1994, when she retired and focused all of her energies on her family. Quiet though she was, she instilled the fear of God and a reverence for the house of God in her children and grandchildren. Patricia always looked forward to seeing her children and grandchildren, giving them homemade bread, johnny cake, stew fish, peas n’ rice with fresh squeezed coconut milk and the meanest guava duff in town. Mother always knew how to stretch a meal beyond realistic limits, we never went to bed hungry because God multiplied our fish and barley loaves. She was a seamstress as she made many outfits for herself and her entire family. She was our teacher, disciplinarian, doctor, confidant, and friend. In her mid-forties Patricia was diagnosed with diabetes, a condition she struggled with for many years, seeking treatment at a number of health institutes in the United States. Having fought hard and overcoming many of the odds against her, this condition gradually and eventually became too much for her to bear. Being unable to care for herself and needing 24 hour assistance for years, the family decided to meet at her home on Sabbath March 8th, 2014 to sing, pray and read scriptures with her. We saw that she was slipping away from us slowly and as she entered the hospital for the last time, we sang hymns of praise and thanksgiving with her. Surrounded by her love one’s on March 9th, 2014 she peacefully went to sleep in the arms of her Saviour Jesus Christ. Joining her husband to rest a while with him looking forward to the blessed hope and soon return of our Lord and coming King. Cubit Haynes Obituary

Dorsett

June 11, 1934 - March 3, 2014 On the 11th day of June, 1934 in the quaint settlement of the Bluff Eleuthera, the seventh of eight children was welcomed into the world by the late William & Emily Gertrude Dorsett and given the name Cubit Haynes Dorsett. Haynes, as he was affectionately called attended the Bluff all-age school where he was educated and had the honor of serving as a school monitor. He was first introduced to music by his mother who took him to piano lessons with Grandma ‘Bella’. He practiced constantly what he was taught on an organ in his parents’ home of which many of the keys had no sound. Over the years his talent blossomed, and he became well known for his musical abilities. Seeking to advance himself educationally and financially he left his hometown of Bluff Eleuthera and moved to New Providence. During this time he lived with his eldest brother Charles Dorsett who owned a food store in the Englerston area. For a short time he left New Providence to go on ‘the contract’, but quickly realized that picking fruits in the hot Florida sun was not his calling. Building on his entrepreneurial heritage, a foundation laid by his father who initially introduced him to business and commerce while working in his petty shop on the island; he was encouraged by his brother to open his own convenience store in the Englerston area after returning from ‘the contract’. This marked the beginning of his journey towards becoming a successful businessman. When he decided to look for a lifelong partner, he returned to his native island home where he met and fell in love with the beautiful Patricia Varona Neely. After dating for a short while, he decided to marry the love of his life in August 26, 1958; and this marriage union was subsequently blessed with 8 wonderful children.

Throughout his life he also worked for several established businesses including The Balmoral Club of West Bay Street, Island Merchants and Asa H. Pritchard. Known for his astute business acumen, he was the first Bahamian to introduce t-shirts, postcards and souvenirs to the downtown Straw Market enabling many straw vendors to compete with large Bay Street stores. This competitive edge empowered and financially uplifted many of the ordinary Bahamian Straw vendors who adopted his business vision. In the early 1980’s, he further expanded on this dream by opening his own wholesale souvenir outlet catering to the Straw Market vendors. As the years progressed, his business continued to flourish enabling him to open other stores in Nassau and Freeport. Always the consummate businessman, he became the first registered Bahamian to import goods through the Miami Free Trade Zone and also one of the first to travel to and import goods from Mainland China to the Bahamas. Having committed his life to the Lord as a young man he utilized his musical abilities to enhance the sanctuary services of the Grant’s Town Seventh-day Adventist Church, by playing such instruments as the organ and piano. He served in several capacities including; music coordinator, choir director, sabbath school superintendent and sabbath school teacher for the church. With his immense love for music he organized and held many gospel concerts throughout the length and breadth of the Bahamas, inviting the likes of the Visionares, The Temple Trio, Charles Wallace and others to perform. His singing group the Temple Trio was known as one of the popular gospel groups at the time and their music album one of the best of the day. Spreading his God given musical talent around he also played for many Seventh-day Adventist crusades, the Gospel Bell Choir of Grace Gospel Chapel, Adelma Penn & the Christian Science Church and Zion Baptist Yamacraw Church Choir. He was also a member of the Bahamas Organist Guild,

After his retirement in the early 2000’s, Haynes sought a slower pace of life, taking the time to travel with his beautiful wife around the world, and doing the things that he loved most in life including; playing the piano, reading the Miami Herald to his grandchildren, conversing in Creole and Spanish as well as watching the 7 o’clock news, but most of all it was time with his God and family that made him most happy. In 2007 he became ill, and slowly we began to lose the man we knew and loved. After a hard fight, it was time for him to go, and for us to say our final goodbye’s and on March 3rd, 2014, surrounded by those he loved, Haynes drifted peacefully into sleep listening to his favorite choir; his family. Those surviving and longing to see him again are: 8 Children: Nelson Dorsett, Vanrea Flowers, Emily Gertrude Lewis, Tedwin ‘Teddy’ Dorsett, Robin Rolle, Harold Dorsett, L. Carol Dorsett & R. Laying of Floral Tributes Final Remarks | Funeral Director Hymn -- 422 “Marching To Zion” Come, we that love the Lord, And let our joys be known; Join in a song with sweet accord, Join in a song with sweet accord, And thus surround the throne, And thus surround the throne.

The hill of Zion yields A thousand sacred sweets, Before we reach the heavenly fields, Before we reach the heavenly fields, Or walk the golden streets, Or walk the golden streets.

Refrain: We’re marching to Zion, Beautiful, beautiful Zion; We’re marching upward to Zion, The beautiful city of God.

Then let our songs abound, And every tear be dry; We’re marching through Immanuel’s ground We’re marching through Immanuel’s ground To fairer worlds on high, To fairer worlds on high.

Let those refuse to sing, Who never knew our God; But children of the heavenly King, But children of the heavenly King, May speak their joys abroad, May speak their joys abroad. Hymn -- 50 “Abide With Me” Abide with me; fast falls the eventide; The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide! When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

I need Thy presence every passing hour. What but Thy grace can foil the tempter’s power? Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be? Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.

Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day; Earth’s joys grow dim; its glories pass away; Change and decay in all around I see; O Thou who changest not, abide with me.

I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless; Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness. Where is death’s sting? Where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still, if Thou abide with me!

Benediction -- Elder Roger Forbes

Tribute to Daddy

Daddy you were the common thread that weaved our eight souls. Your legacy will live on through us, and our children. A man of steel, with a heart of gold. Firm, frugal and faithful to your family and your God. You imprinted a constant theme on our hearts to love Christ, enjoy music, seek knowledge and be self -sufficient. The words of your children reign with your wisdom. Daddy, you cut the track that has led us to Christ. Each and every day you played such sweet music that inspired us and led the way. Music was always alive in our home and we will miss singing with you as you practiced to play with the choir. Daddy you taught us our first songs to sing in church. We will never forget our timetables because you sang them with us on the way to school. Every day we looked forward to you coming home, a constant in our lives. At the dinner table we would practice spelling with cool whip as the coveted prize. You did not spear the rod if we objected to the task and for that we are grateful. Daddy, we know you meant well but you had to be stern, hard and strong, those lessons of love and your forgiving spirit will forever live on. The lectures on the way to school have kept us on the path to excel

in every aspect of our lives. We saw you as a hard working businessman, a fearless merchant always providing for your family. Your spirit of entrepreneurship inspired many of us to travel far and near. Some kids would say their first words were “mom or dad”, we would say our first words were “10 postcards for a dollar”. But most of all your giving spirit has taught us humility. Because………

You Gave, I have You Imparted, I am educated and I understand You Worked, I ate and I am clothed You Played, I hear the melody You Sang, I hear harmony You taught me the scriptures, I know Jesus All because of you The man we called Dad, Daddy, Pappie, Grumpa, Our Father

Haynes Dorsett

Mummy

Mummy was a gem with a heart of gold, always caring for her eight precious little souls. For us she had a heavenly goal that we all might be saved in the kingdom of God. You were our best friend and confidant. We shared so much. You listened to our troubles and shared our concerns. Mommy showed us how to have fun by teaching us to skip rock, bark almond, draw pictures and laugh till we cried. Oh, how you loved to laugh! Mom, you showed us so much love in your smiles, your hugs, your kisses and your words of wisdom. This was instrumental in making us who we are today. Although you were soft spoken, you showed us strength and independence. We learned from the best how to be mothers and homemakers. You cared for your grandchildren as if they were your own babies. Who knew a Bordens ice cream container had more than one use! We saw your strength in the many times your illness tried to put you down. You never gave up! Your love for dad always kept you going. You were our rock and we thank you for the time we spent together. A loyal wife, loving mother and our best friend. We thank God for you. The women we called Mommy, Mom, Mama D., Grammy,

Patricia Dorsett Our Mother

AATribute To Grammy Gentle Soul Sometimes we forget the specifics of our childhood and the encounters we had with people in our lives. To be honest it all seems like a blur at times. Yet, despite the blur, one thing remains clear and that is the emotions and character traits conveyed to us. I may not always remember every moment we shared Grammy, but when I think of you I feel your love and calming presence. That said, I still remember the times you picked me up from preschool and the ways you comforted me when I was afraid we’d be attacked by dogs on the way home. I count myself blessed to have known you and to call you Grammy. Your compassion, love, patience, kindness and deep sense of faith in God will always be at the center of my thoughts of you. I will miss you Grammy but I am comforted by the memory of you and the hope of our tomorrow together in Glory. Until we meet again Love Al

A Tribute To Grandpa

Tribute to a great man among many men!! From a little girl you always taught me to work hard at anything that I wanted to accomplish in life. Your teachings started from the bench of a piano. Here you taught me how to play my first hymn “Praise to The Lord”, then to the pulpit of the church where I sang my first song. Sitting at your table, where you instilled in me the proper communication skills for when I faced the world, then driving in your car from school, while you showed me the importance of education in order to get ahead in life. There are so many more lessons that you shared with me and I will forever remember them as I go through life. I know that if you were here today you would be very proud of me and that brings my heart joy knowing that. I will miss your words of wisdom and your laughter, but I will always cherish the many wonderful moments we had together. Whenever things aren’t going good I will always remember that my grandpa said “Just leave it in the hands of The Lord”. These few words don’t even touch how much I love you, grandpa and I will miss you every day, but I know you are resting in Jesus now and that one day I will see you again. Love Always, Your granddaughter, Keisha

A Tribute To My Sister

If I should ever leave you, Whom I love, To go alone the silent way, Grieve not, Nor speak of me with tears, But laugh and talk of me as if I were beside you there. I’d come - I’d come, could I but find a way! But would not tears and grief be barriers? And when you hear a song or see a bird I love Please do not let the thought of me be sad… I am loving you just as I always have… You were so good to me! There are so many things I wanted still to do, So many things to say to you… Remember that I did not fear, It was just leaving you that was so hard to face… We cannot see beyond but this I know. I loved you so… Twas Heaven here with you! “But those who hope in the Lord, will renew their strength they will soar on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. -Isaiah 40:31

From your loving sister Roselyn
