MESSAGE FROM HON. MICHAEL C. PINTARD
MP Marco City Party Leader
My fellow delegates this Convention 2024 marks a great milestone for our party and for our country as we’ve demonstrated the power of resilience.
Over the past two years our leadership team has made great strides in rebuilding our party. By reaching out with sincerity and purpose, we have reactivated many of our constituency associations some which have not met in years. In the same vein we have been able to bring back into the fold many FNMs who have been in the wilderness for many years.
As the official Opposition, although small in numbers, we have done yeoman’s work in holding the PLP’s feet to the fire. In the House of Assembly it has been through our relentless questioning and outside the House, the many public protests we have held shining a spotlight on the misdeeds of this unaccountable government that has not even pretended to follow the law’s they have helped to legislate.
Delegates you can rest assured that over next two years your Parliamentary team intends to turn up the heat even more on the PLP holding them accountable and demonstrating to the Bahamian people how they have been misled by this lawless government.
If we remain focused on our theme Forward Stronger, the sky is the limit. We have proven time and again that together we are stronger and that the Free National Movement’s commitment to what is best for the Bahamian people will lead us to our ultimate goal of becoming the next government of The Bahamas.
MESSAGE FROM HON. SHANENDON CARTWRIGHT
MP St, Barnabas Party Deputy Leader
Greeting Delegates
The founding father of our beloved Free National Movement Sir.Cecil Wallace-Whitfield said in an historic speech that led to the formation of the Free National Movement that “Democracy and Truth are hard and demanding taskmasters.”
Sir Cecil Wallace Whitfield words reminds us that challenge of ensuring the progress of our thriving democracy and the strengthening of the rich legacy of our party has been felt in the sacrifices of countless FNM freedom fighters like you and it continues to be an honor to be fighting with you.
The greatness of our party has been our ability to draw from our vast experience , transformative policies ,diverse perspectives and dissenting views .
We have been shown the way by our courageous visionary founding fathers the Dissident eight . We have been inspired by the great women in our party. We continue to benefit from the wisdom and sacrifice of our valiant Meritorious Council Members and the torch is being passed to a new generation of young motivated FNMs just as committed to the values and tenets of the Free National Movement and the promise of a better Bahamas for the Bahamian people.
We are facing another clarifying moment for the Commonwealth of the Bahamas and the Free National Movement.
We are being called upon again to capture the imagination of the Bahamian people through advancing visionary policies, to restore hope and to
give our best efforts in creating a better Bahamas for the Bahamian people.
This convention gives us the opportunity to remind the Bahamian people of the Free National Movements longstanding commitment to fighting for their freedoms , their empowerment , their prosperity and the transformation of our great nation for generations to come.
The spirited discussions and decisions made at this convention will determine the way forward for our party , our nation and the Bahamian people whom we all serve.
I remain humbled , priveleged and grateful to almighty God for the honor to serve as your Deputy Leader. I thank you you for your support and confidence knowing full well that leadership requires sacrifice and service beyond self. I am here to serve you!
I welcome all delegates particulary those who have travelled from across our nation and commend you for your commitment and steadfastness to the progress of our party and advancement of our country.
I wish to thank as well those who have organized this convention and express sincere gratitude for the outstanding efforts.
May God bless all of you , may he further strengthen the Free National Movement and may he continue to richly bless the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.
Shanendon E. Cartwright Member of Parliament- St. BarnabasMESSAGE FROM DR. DUANE SANDS
Party Chairman and Co-Chair
Convention Committee
Esteemed delegates and FNMs everywhere;
Welcome to Convention 2024!!
The last two and a half years have been productive and exciting.
Your FNM party is once again a bustling, thriving, enthusiastic party actively engaged in protecting the interests of the people of The Bahamas.
Let me thank you for the privilege to serve as your national chairman. We have done excellent work together and God’s help we will move Forward Stonger.
While our primary focus at this year’s convention will be the election of officers, we shall also offer insight into the progressive FNM vision of a brighter future for our country. This will take place at our evening session.
As in 1967 and 1992, Bahamians long for transformative initiatives.
We intend to share that vision with you all!
The work done by the FNM leadership team over the last few years has placed the FNM in a good position to propose a platform that reflects your dreams and aspirations.
As we convene, I encourage you to enjoy the company and pleasure of fellow in a spirit of comraderie. FNMs, may we emerge from Convention 2024 stronger, united, and resolved!
Forward Stronger! May God bless us all.
MESSAGE FROM INGA BOSTWICK
Co-Chair Convention Committee
I am deeply honoured to have been appointed to serve as one of the Convention Co-Chairs. This opportunity to contribute to the success of such a momentous gathering is a responsibility I embrace with gratitude. Additionally, I am humbled and grateful to have been re-elected as the party’s National Deputy Treasurer. Your trust and confidence in my abilities drive my obligation to serve our party with integrity, excellence, and fairness.
It’s moments and events like this that allow me to reflect on how far we have come. As a young adult attending conventions at the then Ambassador Beach and Royal Bahamian Hotels under then leaders Sir Kendal G. Isaacs and Sir Cecil Wallace Whitfield, when we were only considered a faction/ fringe party; fast forward 30+ years later and our party has not only led but helped pave the way for a better Bahamas.
I hope this Convention brings into perspective not only our party’s enduring legacy but also underscores our promise of progress, unity, and resilience. As we gather to celebrate our achievements and strategize for the future, let us remember that our strength lies in our unity and shared vision. Let us not allow discord and disharmony among us to distract us from the main objective of this convention, which is for us to engage in meaningful discussions, exchange innovative ideas, and strengthen the bonds that unite us. Together, we will forge a path “Forward, Stronger,” ensuring a brighter and more prosperous future for our nation.
I extend a warm welcome to every one of you. May this convention be a source of inspiration, empowerment, and transformational focus as we work together towards our common goals. We have an election to win and a country to govern, and what we demonstrate and accomplish over these next few days will be the standard by which we are judged. Let us instill the highest degree of confidence in our party. We owe it to ourselves and our country.
Inga M. Bostwick Convention Co-ChairMESSAGE FROM SERFENT E. ROLLE
Secretary General, Convention Co-ChairStronger Together
My Brother and Sister Delegates, We gather once again in an exercise of commitment. A commitment to enhancing, equipping, and strengthening our great organization. The Free National Movement (FNM) was born out of an intentional and focused desire by right thinking Bahamians to save The Bahamas from a perilous path. Our pioneering, brave, and tenacious ‘Dissident 8’ are evidence of the strength of their time. Together with the support of a growing number of men and women they refused to be fixated on the trappings and benefits of sitting in lofty seats in Government in favour of continuing their fight for a stronger future for all Bahamians.
This 2024 National Convention allows us to come together to make the best decisions for this time in the Free National Movement and the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. As we prepare for a General Election, we must ensure that we have a Team that is well positioned to approach, interact with, and convince a deserving Bahamian populace that the FNM is the party that can provide unstoppable positive change.
The sincere engagement and participation of youth in the development of our party, platforms, and policies must be more greatly evidenced in all that we present. Each Constituency Association must now be aggressively visible, relevant, and purposeful in their respective communities.
It is my hope that we use this opportunity to gather together and have the conversations and address the issues that matter most to Bahamians. Education, healthcare, the economy, and personal and national security are areas of concern that the present administration continues to fail to address to the saisfaction and benefit of the Bahamian people. The Free National Movement must demonstrate that we are listening to the concerns and fears expressed by Bahmains going about their lives day-to-day, about these and so many other issues.
At the conclusion of this convention exercise we must come to a common understanding to be STRONGER TOGETHER. Let us be intentional towards a bright hope for our nation which deserves the best from us. It is my prayer that we, as Brother and Sister Delegates, remember the spirit and essence of selflessness that defined our ‘Dissent 8’ and our other forefathers and foremothers, who understood that being strong is nice, but being strong together is always best. Let us therefore forever remain Stronger Together!
