On April 8th, 1944, amidst the serene beauty of Lovely Bay Acklins, a new chapter in the Ferguson family’s story unfolded with the arrival of their youngest member, Franklyn Paul Ferguson. Born to Dianna Beneby and Frank Ferguson, his birth brought immense joy and hope to their household. Little did they know then, that young Franklyn would grow up to embody the very essence of strength and determination.
Raised in the idyllic surroundings of Acklins, Franklyn was instilled with values of hard work, resilience, and a deep appreciation for his roots. It was in this picturesque settlement that he first began to exhibit signs of his innate entrepreneurial spirit, a trait he inherited from his mother, Dianna. She was a woman of remarkable
vision and tenacity, who played a pivotal role in shaping Franklyn’s character and ambitions.
For 16 years, Franklyn flourished in the tranquil embrace of Acklins, immersed in its natural splendor and close-knit community. However, as he matured, so did his aspirations. Driven by a desire to explore new horizons and seek out opportunities beyond the confines of his beloved island, Franklyn made the bold decision to venture into the bustling capital city of New Providence. Leaving behind the familiarity of his childhood home, Franklyn embarked on a journey filled with both excitement and uncertainty. Armed with determination and a steadfast resolve to carve out his own path, he embraced the challenges that lay ahead with unwavering confidence.
As he stepped onto the bustling streets of New Providence, Franklyn carried with him the values and principles instilled in him during his formative years in Lovely Bay Acklins. Matriculating from the humble confines of the Lovely Bay all-age school, Franklyn’s potential shone brightly even in his formative years. Despite the modest educational resources available, he displayed an insatiable curiosity and a remarkable intellect that set him apart from his peers. It was
during these foundational years that he first expressed his lofty aspirations, often musing that had he pursued higher education, he might have harbored dreams of ascending to the highest echelons of political leadership, perhaps even aspiring to the role of Prime Minister.
However, despite the absence of formal collegiate pursuits, Franklyn’s journey was far from lacking in academic recognition. His unwavering commitment to self-improvement and dedication to his community garnered widespread acclaim, culminating in a momentous occasion on December 3, 2007. On this auspicious day, Franklyn Paul Ferguson was bestowed with an Honorary Doctorate Degree from the esteemed DWR Ministry and Seminary in Richmond, Virginia.
This prestigious accolade served not only as a testament to Franklyn’s exceptional contributions but also as a validation of his lifelong commitment to service, leadership, and academic excellence. It was a moment of profound significance, not just for Franklyn himself, but for the entire community that had supported and nurtured him along his remarkable journey.

In the balmy month of June in 1968, amidst the gentle rustle of palm trees and the whisper of the sea breeze, Franklyn Paul Ferguson experienced a moment that would forever alter the course of his life – love at first sight. It was a serendipitous encounter, a chance meeting that would ignite a spark destined to illuminate the depths of his
heart. From the instant his eyes met Orlean’s, he knew that she was the one destined to walk alongside him on life’s journey.
Propelled by an overwhelming certainty and a profound sense of destiny, Franklyn wasted no time in professing his undying love and devotion to Orlean. Their connection was instantaneous, as if fate itself had orchestrated their meeting, guiding them inexorably towards each other’s embrace. Just three short months after their fateful encounter, Franklyn and Orlean stood hand in hand, surrounded by the warmth and love of family and friends, as they exchanged vows of eternal commitment and fidelity. For fifty-six glorious years, Franklyn and Orlean’s love story unfolded with all the grace and beauty of a timeless romance. Together, they weathered life’s storms and celebrated its joys, their hearts intertwined in a tapestry of
shared memories and shared dreams. Along the way, they were blessed with the gift of four precious children – Tyrel, Admiral, Tenielle, and Adrian – each a testament to the depth of their love and the richness of their legacy.
Franklyn cherished nothing more than his family, holding them close to his heart as the truest manifestations of love’s transformative power. To him, they were not just his flesh and blood, but living embodiments of hope, resilience, and boundless potential. In addition to his roles in the tourism and transportation sectors, Franklyn also distinguished himself as a capable manager, overseeing the operations of Paradise Inn Restaurant with a deft hand and a keen eye for detail. Under
his guidance, the restaurant flourished, becoming a beloved gathering place for locals and visitors alike, where delicious food and warm camaraderie abounded.
Yet perhaps Franklyn’s most enduring legacy lies in his establishment of a Security Company, a testament to his unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of his community. Through his leadership and dedication, he provided employment opportunities for countless individuals while simultaneously offering peace of mind to residents and businesses alike.
As a devout member and faithful Deacon of the Southland Church of God, Franklyn found solace and fulfillment in the embrace of his spiritual community, where his love for God and his passion for serving others intertwined seamlessly. Within the hallowed walls of the church, he discovered a sanctuary of peace and renewal, a sacred space where the burdens of the world were lifted and the soul found rest.
Franklyn’s devotion to God extended far beyond the confines of the church walls. It permeated every aspect of his life, infusing his daily interactions with a spirit of compassion, kindness, and grace. Whether through acts of charity, words of encouragement, or simply the warmth of his presence, he sought to embody the teachings of Christ and spread the message of love and hope to all whom he encountered.

You would look at me, then ask “Tenelle, you alright?” After saying yes daddy. Then you would start with the jokes and all the old stories. Not a day goes by that you don’t cross my mind. I will miss making you tea and fixing you an egg. Daddy, you brought happiness and fulfillment to so many. You have a heart of gold and for that no one can replace the love I have for you.

A man who was more than family-oriented, a leader, a prayer warrior, compassionate, and someone who would give the clothes off his back to another. Those characteristics best represent my father, a giant of a man. Franklyn Ferguson was passionate about people and the community. I have fond memories of my father organizing outreach feeding programmes to help the less fortunate. That was the framework he adhered to. Franklyn was a firm believer in providing people with the means to support themselves and their families. My father was an honest, hardworking, and ambitious man. I will always hold dear the words that my father used to say to me: “Omeko, always take care of your family; that should be your number one priority.” Franklyn made a lasting impression on his family, the community and himself. My father, Franklyn Ferguson, you will be honoured for many years to come for your work. May his faith and legacy live eternally in us.

These weeks have been very hard for me and the Ferguson family. When they told me you died, I was flabbergasted. I couldn’t believe it and it was hard for me to take in. I’m really going to miss you doing the things that you normally do, for example chilling with your family, talking with us, giving us some words of encouragement. And I will definitely miss your bright smile, sometimes it’s hard for us to take it off your face. I remember you telling me that you will give me the house, the car, and the boat, whenever you told me that I would laugh or chuckle. I’m really going to miss you but at least you are in heaven and one day I will see you again.

Today, we pay tribute to a life that touched ours in countless ways. We gather not only in mourning but also in celebration of the profound impact that my dearest fatherin-law Franklyn Ferguson had on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Reflecting on the memories we shared, my heart swelled with gratitude for the privilege of having known him. It seems like only yesterday that I first encountered his warm presence back in July of 1998. I remember vividly: Daddy standing there, observing with a pearl of quiet wisdom, his words of guidance resonating deeply within me. “Jennifer,” he said, “It takes two for a relationship to work. Both you and Addy must work as one and not worry about others. Follow the examples of Orlean and I and your parents.” Little did I know at the time, those words would become the cornerstone of my marriage, guiding and shaping it over the years.
Mr. Ferguson was more than a father-in-law; he was a beacon of strength, compassion, and integrity. His fairness, care, and unwavering empathy endeared him to all who knew him. He possessed a rare combination of strength of character and boundless energy, which inspired those around him to strive for greatness. Dependable to the core, he was a pillar of support for his family and friends, always there when needed most.
Yet, his most enduring quality was his loyalty. Daddy was not merely a man of words but a man of action, consistently demonstrating his loyalty through his deeds. He made each person he encountered feel valued and cherished, often reminding us with a heartfelt “You all I got,” though, in truth, it was he who was our anchor, our rock in times of need.
I give thanks for the twenty-five-plus years shared with my dear father-in-law. I cherish the memories made, the laughter shared, and the wisdom imparted. Though he may no longer be with us in body, his spirit lives on in our hearts, a guiding light that will never dim.

Aman who was more than family-oriented, a leader, a prayer warrior, compassionate, and someone who would give the clothes of his back to another. Those characteristics best represent my father, a giant of a man. Franklyn Ferguson was passionate about people and the community. I have fond memories of my father organising outreach feeding programmes to help the less fortunate. That was the framework he adhered to. Franklyn was a firm believer in providing people with the means to support themselves and their families. My father was an honest, hardworking, and ambitious man. I will always hold dear the words that my father used to say to me: “Omeko, always take care of your family; that should be your number one priority.” Franklyn made a lasting impression on his family, the community and himself. My father, Franklyn Ferguson, you will be honoured for many years to come for your work. May his faith and legacy live eternally in us.

Uncle Franklyn, I will miss you. You always made me feel special. Whenever I saw you, you always greeted me with “you all I gat”. My father Stafford Ferguson, your brother, loved you so much.
As a child I remember watching you and my father many nights as I sat on the stairs and watched both of you run one of the top night clubs at that time, Paradise Inn. I remember travelling with you and my father on a fishing trip at Monteque Beach, in the Big Dumpling. The engine on the boat failed and we had to row back to shore.
Uncle, I knew you loved me. The time we spent in Acklins last year, will forever be imprinted in my mind and heart. You showed me where Grammy lived, where my father was born and
We bid farewell to a patriarch, a cornerstone of our family, a source of wisdom, love, and unwavering support. I am blessed to know him, to love him, and to have been loved by him. Your memory will forever be a beacon of light, illuminating our path through life’s journey. Rest in peace, Grampy.

Uncle Franklyn, Thank You for your expressions of Love towards me. You had your very own personal way of making me feel so special. I knew you loved me as you always greeted me with a warm smile and “All I gat”. Even after I learnt you told everyone this, I still felt special. After my father’s passing, you were so concerned about my siblings and I. You always wanted to know if you could do anything for me, i.e. Call the Prime Minister or Minister Bradley Roberts, if anyone was fooling with me. You were devoted to Family and we felt this. From I was a child you and your brother always lived side by side. This foster a bond between your children and my siblings and I. Today that bond is even stronger. I thank God for my Goodly and Godly Heritage.

thank you for being the loving uncle you were. You always looked out for your beloved brother Stafford’s generation. We will always remember how you made us feel. Your legacy will continue to live on through your nieces and nephews. Rest in Peace.
