Jockeem Jamal Missick was born on June 21st, 1999, to Ketia Malcolm and Joseph Missick. He spent the early years of his life in West Road with his parents and younger siblings. During his childhood, Jockeem developed a passion for playing video games that he carried throughout his life.

Jockeem attended the Precious Jewels daycare, where he was under the care of teacher Janice Glinton. He later transitioned to Newman Preparatory School, now known as Faith Preparatory School. At Newman, he was under the care of Mrs. Kerr, the principal, Mrs. Wendy Carol Butters, the teacher, and Ms. Vivan, the school cleaner and cook. Jockeem grew up with and socialized well with Brittany Been, Riley Freites, William, Jerrika & Shermal Francis, and Daunte & DeAndre Brown, who were his first set of close friends.

In 2011, Jockeem began his secondary level studies at H.J Robinson High School. At H.J Robinson, he excelled in Mathematics and English and made numerous bonds with his classmates. To name a few, Jockeem quickly became the best of friends with Newman Moore, Widlere Pierre, and Widlyn Aristil. He also had a catchphrase with Widlyn (Stunna), “You could put that on TMZ” that they used whenever they had a great time together.

Jockeem graduated from H.J Robinson High School in 2016 and tried to pursue a degree in Business Management at the Turks and Caicos Islands Community College. However, he decided to put his educational aspirations on hold and entered the workforce. Jockeem was employed at Flo Rida watersports up Carnival and Sunny Foods as a food stocker before he moved to Providenciales.

In April 2021, Jockeem relocated to Providenciales, where he worked in the watersports department at Beaches Resorts. He worked with the resort for

nine months before he embarked on a fulfilling career with the Turks and Caicos Islands Government (TCIG) within the D.E.C.R department. Jockeem excelled and made a lasting impact with his hard work and dedication. He was always inquisitive whenever training opportunities arose within the department. He was also given the opportunity to study Marine Biology abroad on behalf of the department to become qualified in certain areas, but unfortunately, he never went through with it.

In August 2023, Jockeem relocated back to Grand Turk and resided with his mother and siblings. Jockeem and his younger sister Jolissia became their nephew’s babysitter whenever their sister Jokeia had to make errands or go to school in the evenings. Jockeem was a family-oriented person who always showed love and concern for his family.

Jockeem had a great love for spending quality time with his family and playing dominoes. He was quite competitive and enjoyed talking trash while playing. When he wasn’t playing dominoes, he would spend time on his Mama’s front porch, which they affectionately called “the porch.” It was a special place where they could unwind, converse, and catch up with each other. Moreover, Jockeem was not a good singer, but he had a soft corner for karaoke. Despite his lack of talent, he still enjoyed singing along with friends and family.

However, on February 8th, 2024, Jockeem’s life was tragically taken away from him while watching the H.J Robinson high school sports with his coworkers. His sudden and untimely death shocked and saddened his family and friends, who were devastated by the loss of such a kind and caring person.

Jockeem’s legacy lives on through the memories he created with his infectious laughter, caring heart, and unwavering loyalty. He was a dedicated brother, a loyal friend, and always willing to lend a helping hand whenever it was needed. Jockeem touched the hearts of all who knew him with his kind spirit and adventurous nature, inspiring those around him to embrace each day with joy and gratitude. His memory will continue to inspire and uplift those who were touched by his presence

Like an Uber driver, I’d whisk you away, To school, to home, day by day.

In the echoes of our memories of Jockeem, we find solace, Our cousin, more than kin, a bond never to abolish. Through the laughter at Mama’s house, our playground, We danced in the rhythm of love, forever profound. Not just cousins, but siblings in spirit we became, Each heartbeat synchronized in a familial flame.

In the tapestry of our lives, you were a vital thread, Now torn away, leaving an ache that cannot be shed. His absence is a void, an organ missing from our soul, The pain cuts deep, making it hard to be whole.

But in the midst of our grief, your spirit still thrives, In the laughter of your son, in the love that survives. We’ll hold your memory close, never letting it fade, In every embrace, in every step we’ve made. For though you may be gone, your love remains, In our hearts, forever, your legacy sustains. Good morning, church and the wider community of Grand Turk. I would like to encourage the young people that gun violence is destroying our country and causing pain to our families and friends. We expect your generation to set an example and be role models for our future generation by being productive members of society and getting involved with the growth and development of our beautiful Turks and Caicos Islands.

Time and again, we are heartbroken by the News of another gun violence that is affecting our country; part of our healing must be the conviction that we will do everything in our power to keep these tragedies from happening in our beautiful and beloved country. This thing that you young people call beef has to stop between the South and the North. The Grand Turk community is too small for this, and I’m pleading to you all to put an end to it because if it ain’t making you all no dollars, so, therefore, it doesn’t make any sense.

We need you, young men, to help build this country, young people if you offend someone, it is your responsibility to apologize humbly; as it says in proverb 25:15, By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue break bones, in other words, use patience and kind words when you are confronted with violence and watch the person who is aggressive towards you change his mind right in front of you.

To Jockeem friends, I’m appealing to you to please don’t seek revenge on my son’s death; my family and I will not be pleased with that. We don’t want to remember him that way, and if you all truly love him, you should honor our wishes.

Weak people seek vengeance, strong people forgive, and intelligent people ignore. Use his death to bring about positive changes in your lives. You all cannot continue to go on like this; you must end this nonsense. You all have to control your anger and never make decisions while you’re mad because it clouds your judgment, and you add alcohol and substance to that, thinking that it will drown your anger, but all it does is teach your anger how to swim. In other words, when you are no longer under the influence, you will realize that your problems have become worse.

Young people, listen to me; all I can do is advise you to change your lives and do better; there’s a saying: you can lead a horse to the water, but you cannot make him drink. I’m leading you all to the water drink young people drink. I just want to remind you of these words from 1 Thessalonians 5:15, which reads, see that none render evil for evil unto any man, but ever follow that which is good both among yourselves and to all men.
