EXPLORING HER LIFE’S JOURNEY & LEGACY
FISH ON!
On the quaint island of Providenciales, Turks and Caicos, an angel was born on August 6th, 1941, to the late John Henry Williams (a fisherman by profession) and the late Alicia Been-Williams (a skilled straw artisan). They named their angel, Maziee Eliza Williams. She was baby three of four children who was an intuitive, fun-loving, and mischievous child and an excellent sidekick to her older sister Rose. Her childhood was filled with adventures shared between her and her siblings.
Due to an unfortunate incident surrounding the loss of her father at sea, Maziee and her siblings were sent to live with her grandmother, Ma Sarah and her mother relocated to New Providence.
SAILING THROUGH TIME
Her formative years were spent on the island of Sandy Point, a small and quiet community located on the northwestern end of North Caicos. Under the tutelage of her grandmother, Ma Sarah, Maziee learned how to become an industrious, hardworking, creative and committed young lady.
After the passing of her loving grandmother, she went to live with her aunt Evenner “Auntie Venna” Landy. During this time, she attended and graduated from Sandy Point All-Age School, North Caicos completing grade 6 form which was the highest grade attainable at that time.
HOOK, LINE AND SINKER!
Upon completion of her schooling, Maziee moved to Nassau to be with her mother and sisters for a better quality of life. As she blossomed into a beautiful young lady, many suitors pursued her, however, one was
victorious in obtaining the prize namely the one and only Walter Forbes. They were united in holy matrimony on August 3rd, 1960, and from this union seven beautiful children emerged.
THE CATCH OF A LIFETIME
In 1975, Walter relocated to Freeport, Grand Bahama to pursue better employment opportunities, Maziee and the children soon followed shortly thereafter. Her industrious upbringing was the catalyst to her entrepreneurial skills which comprised of straw artistry, sewing, custodial care, childcare, and as a courier for The Bahamas Journal.
However, according to Maziee, her most loved profession was being a homemaker. Maziee’s pride and joy was raising her children. One of her mantras was Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” She ensured that her children’s foundation was deeply rooted in Godly principles and that they were committed, honest, reliable, trustworthy, dependable, and hardworking members of their family and society by extension.
“REELING IN ADVENTURES”
Maziee was never more in her element than when she was fishing and travelling. These were her two favorite pastimes. Once someone said “let’s,” she would finish the sentence with, “what time?” with her suitcase or fishing bucket packed and ready to go. There were countless late nights on the docks, rocks, and piers where many memories were created, and lasting friendships forged.
home to ya ma, if you come back on my line, you goin’ home with me.” Some fish adhered and others were dinner.
There were annual summer vacations and trips to Turks and Caicos to spend Christmas and celebrate the birthday of her “one good Auntie Venna.” On numerous family vacations plannings, Maziee would advise that she won’t be traveling that year. Yet, as time drew near, that expected call would come through, “Time drawing near, yinna bags packed, eh? Any space for me?” We always knew the call would come and planned ahead by purchasing her ticket with the anticipation of the call. These lasting memories will be etched in our hearts forever.
THE FISHERWOMAN’S COMPASS
At the age of 23, Maziee had a life-changing encounter with God that was indelibly imprinted. She was faithful, dedicated, and unwavering in her faith and always used opportunities to express the goodness of God. This was foundational when she was diagnosed with cancer in her early years. It was then she cemented her faith and drew from a song by Andraé Crouch what penned the lyrics, “For if I never had a problem, I wouldn’t know God could solve them.”
The song, “Through It All” encouraged her to trust God amid adversities and subsequently her faith brought her healing.
During the fishing escapades, we would often hear her cautioning the fish saying, “Children! Go
As she matured in her faith, her love for ministry and people
transcended into various ministries where she dedicatedly served as minister, deaconess, intercessor, choir member, hospitality, chaperone, greeter, and evangelist. She was an encourager and very seasoned in the Word, a true worshipper, a lover of God, people, and life.
THE FINAL CAST
In October 2023, Maziee started to experience some health challenges but she never waivered in her faith. As her outer house started to diminish, she remained steadfast and unmovable. Many days family members and friends stopped by to visit and encourage her, but she was always the minister imparting words of truth and encouragement to them. Her proclamation everyday was “I am in the hands of the Lord.”
In her latter days she reaped in a tangible way from the seeds sown in the lives of so many persons who expressed gratitude for the love she showed them, and they returned to say thank you to our beloved Maziee, Mummy, Grammy, Auntie, Ma Maziee, Ms. Forbes, Sweet Face, Sister, Friend, and Minister.
“Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.” Proverbs 31:31.
Maziee Forbes, embodying the wisdom of Proverbs 31:31, set sail to eternity on the early morning of June 10th, 2024, to be with her Master and reunited with her predeceased loved ones:

For I know, whate’er befall me, Jesus doeth all things well; For I know, whate’er befall me, Jesus doeth all things well.

HYMN OF ASSURANCE | Where the soul of man never dies
1 To Canaan’s land I’m on my way, Where the soul never dies; My darkest night will turn to day, Where the soul never dies.
Refrain: No sad farewells, No tear-dimmed eyes; Where all is love, And the soul never dies.
2 A rose is blooming there for me, Where the soul never dies; And I will spend eternity, Where the soul never dies.
3 A love light beams across the foam, Where the soul never dies; It shines to light the shores of home, Where the soul never dies.
4 My life will end in deathless sleep, Where the soul never dies; And everlasting joys I’ll reap, Where the soul of man never dies.
5 I’m on my way to that fair land, Where the soul of man never dies; Where there will be no parting hand, Where the soul never dies.

Refrain:
Oh what singing, oh what shouting On that happy morning when we all shall rise
Oh what glory, Hallelujah When we meet our blessed Savior in the skies
2 Seems that now I almost see, all the sainted dead Rising for that jubilee, that is just ahead In the twinkling of an eye, changed with them to be All the living saints to fly, to that jubilee.
3 When with all that heavenly host, we begin to sing Singing in the Holy Ghost, how the heavens will ring Millions there will join the song, with them we shall be Praising Christ through ages long, heaven’s jubilee.

Just a little while to stay here, Just a little while to wait, Just a little while to labor In the path that’s always straight, Just a little more of troubles, In this low and sinful state, Then we’ll enter Heaven’s portals, Sweeping through the pearly gates.
2 Soon we’ll see the light of morning Then the new day will begin, Soon we’ll hear the Father calling, “Come my children enter in;” Then we’ll hear a choir of angels, Singing out the vict’ry song, All our troubles will be ended And we’ll live with heaven’s throng.
3 Soon we’ll meet again our loved ones And we’ll take them by the hand, Soon we’ll press them to our bosom Over in the promised land; Then we’ll be at home forever, Throughout all eternity, What a blessed, blessed morning That eternal morn will be!

Her laughter was contagious, filling our hearts with so much joy. She was the funniest and showed us the beauty of finding joy in every moment. Her support was unwavering, always there for us especially when we needed her the most, guiding us with wisdom and care.
Despite her gentle nature, and don’t mind that because she knew when to be firm, like when wielding a wet towel when she had to discipline. We will never forget that! Her lessons were rooted in love, teaching us the value of responsibility and respect. Even in those moments, her love shone through, a testament to her nurturing spirit.
As we reflect on the memories we shared, we are so grateful for the gift of her presence in our lives. She will forever hold a special place in our hearts, Rest in peace to the best Grammy ever!

DEAR GRAMMY
Today, as we gather to bid farewell to our beloved Maziee, words seem inadequate to express the depth of our love and gratitude for her.
She was not just Grammy, but a guiding light, a source of unwavering love, and a pillar of strength for our family. Families are like branches on a tree, we grow in different directions yet our roots remain as one.
No matter the distance between us or the circumstance, you always ensured to keep in touch with us all.
Grammy you were truly a sweet soul I can still hear your voice playing in my head saying “ my beautiful grand daughter, what part of the world are you in today?” You always viewed me as a superstar and made me feel that my potential was infinite.
Thank you for the light and love that you shared with us all you will forever be in our heart. Rest in perfect peace.
•Bradnisha, Brea, Brandon, Bj, Beyonce and Gerade
Words are inadequate to express how much our sweet Grammy means to us. We have attempted numerous times (collectively and individually) to write but each of our hearts overflows with emotions, each word carrying the weight of cherished memories and profound love. It’s a bittersweet journey down memory lane, where tears and smiles intertwine, painting a portrait of a remarkable woman who will forever hold a special place in all of our hearts. We shed tears not with the absence of hope but with the presence of her humanity.
Nevertheless, to the most phenomenal grandmother, whose love and support was limitless, whose laughter could light up any room, whose storytelling captured our undivided attention, whose adventurous spirit took her to the far corners of the world and whose knowledge of fishing techniques, teaching us these techniques and the joy she finds in being out on the water are all testaments to her love for the craft, making her an adept fisherwoman. Your unwavering faith in God guided not only your steps but also our hearts. Your humor brought joy to our lives, and your love for exploring new places along with your wealth of wisdom inspired us all. You embodied what it meant to be the salt of the earth, a pillar of strength, and a source of endless love.
Our family vacation trips will never be the same because you were indeed the “life of the party” but your memory will forever live on in our hearts, and your legacy of love and laughter will continue to inspire us. Thank you for being the extraordinary woman that you were. Sleep in perfect peace, we love and miss you so much Grammy!
-Taino, Dre, Darius, Jarado and Casson
My Grammy was a pillar of strength and kindness. My safe haven, whose love and wisdom help shape me into who I am today. I am proud to call her Grammy. Rest peacefully, Grammy, knowing you are forever in our thoughts.
-Josh
GOD LOOKED AROUND HIS GARDEN
And found an empty place, He then looked down upon the earth And saw your tired face. He put his arms around you And lifted you to rest.
God’s garden must be beautiful He always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering He knew you were in pain.
He knew that you would never Get well on earth again.
He saw the road was getting rough And the hills were hard to climb.
So he closed your weary eyelids And whispered, “Peace be thine my child”. I miss hearing your voice, but sleep on my dearest niece…
Until we meet again.
-Auntie Venna
REMEMBERING AUNT MAZIEE
Not how did she die, but how did she live? Not what did she gain, but what did she give?
From Carl the oldest to Andrea the last…. We knew our Auntie Maziee to be a very jubilant individual, one who would give us a warm hug and always had a big smile on her face. We looked forward to summertime trips to Freeport, where we enjoyed ourselves with you, and our cousins. Several years ago, during Mummy [Rose her sister] illness, Auntie Maziee will call daily with words of encouragement and prayer, she even travelled to be at her side during her last days on the earth. During this time, we saw and knew they always shared a special bond. We’re going to miss that tender voice “hey boo.” We will cherish all the memories we shared. We thank you for the kind words and for being that beautiful you. Our dear Auntie, take your rest. Your legacy of faith, love and sacrifice will live on in our hearts, until we meet again. We love you!
TRIBUTE TO A WONDERFUL AUNT
Death is not the end but a transition to eternity.
Our wonderful aunt who never grew old, her smile as sunshine, a heart of gold.
Aunty Maziee has left an indelible mark on our lives that will never fade away.
A rear gem indeed; we will forever cherish our memories of her.
God has her in His keeping. We have her in our hearts.
