Elite Student Leaders Bryan Clarke An efficient leader is defined as a person who is followed by the others. In St. John’s College, I used my leadership skills to leave my legacy. What makes me a good student leader is firstly being proactive and reactive. I am always thinking three steps ahead. In addition, I try to be flexible and adaptable. The way I handle myself in unexpected situations and also; how I adapt to new situations. Despite my athletic abilities, I still take my education very seriously and education is always what comes first. Also, the way I earn respect as a good student leader is giving respect to others. Lastly, I focus a lot on having quiet confidence. I tend to be sure of myself and plans with humble intentions. David Sweeting From a child, I was always told to be a positive role model to others and lift them up when they are down. That’s my character and I am that person who never leaves anyone behind even if it puts me at a disadvantage. As a student leader, I believe in being an inspiration to others and I am keeping that even as I venture off into the real world.

Moneesha Smith I’ve been to St. John’s for 13 years. Through the years I’ve managed to maintain my grades and remain at the top of my class. For most of my time at St. John’s College, I was involved in many school clubs and extracurricular activities. Some of these activities comprised of GGYA, Anchor Club, Bridge Building, Science Bowl and Environmental Science Team. I particularly enjoyed participating in sports. I participated in basketball, swimming, volleyball, softball and Track and Field ( Field Events) My time at St. John’s College has instilled in me the knowledge, morals and ethics I will need for the rest of my life.
Ashley Thompson It was an honor to be the Head Girl of St. John’s College for the year 2014-2015. I am most grateful for the relationships that I’ve developed this year, especially with the younger students. Although there were many stressful moments, my time as Head Girl was truly an enjoyable learning experience. I hope that I’ve left a lasting impression on the students of St. John’s and cannot wait to return to see the progress everyone has made. Amanda Fowler
Elite Giant Athletes Alexis Gray During Alexis’ tenure at St John’s College, she has accomplished many athletic achievements. She was the most outstanding female at the Anglican Schools’ Festival in 2014. Her most significant of which is her recently obtained title of third fastest girl in high school U20 for the year of 2015, at the annual High School Nationals. Alexis is also a high school relay Champion for the 4X2, which was achieved with help of her teammates, Antonishka, Kendisha and Amber. Her biggest achievement would have to be, being selected to represent The Bahamas at this year’s Carifta games in St. Kitts; coming home with a silver medal. Alexis also represented the island of New Providence at the IAAF World relays junior division and won a gold medal. In her own words, Alexis states “Much thanks to my track family at SJC who have helped me get where I am. I could not have done it without such great teammates and coaches. Thank you!” Darius Major Darius Major has had a lot of athletic success at St. John’s College. He participated in track and field, as well as basketball where he played a crucial rule in assisting his team mates to become the BAISS Basketball Champions in 2015. In addition to this, Darius was a Carifta team member, and he was a part of the SJC relay 4x4 team that won multiple high school relays. Most recently, Darius is a 2015 National high school champion in long jump.
Dwight Wheatley During my years at St. John’s College, basketball has been an essential part of my life. I have always strived to be the best overall player that I could possibly be. I was chosen as the Junior player of the year for 2011-2012, the All Bahamian Brand Selections for 2012-2013, 2013-2014, 2014-2015 and co player of the year for the BAISS season (2013-2014). I am also ranked one of the Bahamas’ Top 20 and Bahamas top 50 in the Camp International Coaching Clinic (2014) and pre season player of the year (2014-2015). During my Hugh Campbell career my stats are as follows; 18.6 pts, 12.2 rebounds, 1.8 blocks and 4.3 assists. For my BAISS career, my stats are 21.5 points, 13.1 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 2 blocks It was always my goal to make history for my school and I am proud to say that my team mates and I did just this. For the first time in 20 years, my team mates and I won the Senior Boys BAISS Basketball Championship for our school. This was an amazing accomplishment and I am glad to have played a role in it. Thankfully, all of my hard work during my years at SJC paid off and I was blessed to have obtained a full athletic scholarship to Santa Fe College in 2015. Aaron Ross Aaron Ross has competed at both the Carifta games and the junior CAC games, winning a silver medal for the Bahamas. He won a gold medal in BAISS in high jump and got a silver medal at Nationals three years consecutively. At our Inter House Sports day, in the past, Aaron has won the high jump event as well as winning the hurdles event. Next year, he will be attending Jackson State University to compete at the collegiate level. Aaron believes that his hard work and commitment has paid off and resulted in him becoming one of the top Giant athletes in recent times. In his own words, Aaron says, “Becoming a star athlete isn’t easy, but trusting in God and actively training, will allow you to become anything you want to be.”
Christin Wright Christin Wright, head boy of the Class of 2015, is passionate about winning. He states that “sports is where he finds peace and it is a big part of his life.” Christin has been actively involved in the school’s basketball team and has played a tremendous role in helping the school to win the BAISS basketball championship this year. Christin articulated that winning the BAISS Basketball Championship this year meant a whole lot to himself and his school; especially because it has not been done in 20 years. In addition to this, Christin also won the most RBI’s award in the 2014 Austin Knowles Softball Tournament. In his own words, Christin states, “I am a top athlete because I never allow my fears to take away my success.” Laquan Nairn Laquan joined SJC in eleventh grade and ever since he came to the school, he has changed the aura around campus. With his originality, singing and rapping skills, ability to speak like an American fluently and his passion and drive for jumping, Laquan has left a lasting impression on his school and classmates. Being around him, you can sense his drive and passion to succeed. Laquan is an extremely respectful and God fearing young man. In all of his successes, he NEVER says “me” or “I,” it is ALWAYS God. Influenced by his past and motivated by his big brother Lourawls “Tum Tum” Narin, who currently plays basketball for Michigan State University, Laquan is determined to succeed. For the past few years, Laquan has achieved accomplishments that not many people his age has. In 2012 at the Carifta games in Bermuda, he won a silver medal in long and high jump. At the Junior CAC games in El Salvador of the same year, he won a silver medal in long jump. At the 2013 Carifta games in The Bahamas, Laquan won the gold medal in the front of his home crowd. At this same event, he was a silver medalist in high jump. Laquan finished 5th and ranked 5th in the world, in high jump at the 2013 World Youth Games in Ukraine. In 2014, at the Carifta games in Martinique, he was a bronze medalist in high jump. We’re not done yet! In 2014 at the World Junior Games in Oregon, he was ranked 13th in the world and was a long jump finalist. At the Junior CAC games held in Mexico of the same year, he was a gold medalist in long jump. Finally, at the Carifta games held in St. Kitts and Nevis of this year (2015), Laquan won the silver medal in high jump. Even after all of this, Laquan is just getting started. As he has already made a name for himself in his country, in the Caribbean and already in the world, we are confident that he will continue to do so, making his parents, alma mater and country, proud!
