Message from the Governor General

I

t is a pleasure to extend warm greetings to Bishop Ellis Farrington, JP, Officers and Members of the Diocesan 39th Episcopal District on the occasion of the 69th Anniversary celebrations of Annual General Convention of The Bahamas and Turks & Caicos Council of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World Incorporated. Dame Marguerite Pindling, GCMG

I am informed that, for this occasion, you have chosen the Theme: “Ye shall Receive Power. When followed, I am confident that it will ensure that the work of spreading the message of the Gospel will proceed effectively. It is important, I believe, that the Church must continue to lead the way, proclaiming the message of Peace, Love and Joy throughout this Nation and beyond.

As you gather in Convention, therefore, it is my hope that the important issues which will arise in your discussions, will result in a renewed commitment for greater spiritual development among people in all our communities. I am therefore delighted to extend congratulations and best wishes to Bishop Farrington and the entire membership of The Bahamas and Turks & Caicos Council for the success of your deliberations as you engage in this important assembly. I pray that Almighty God will continue to bless and prosper your Ministry.

Message from the The Minister of Tourism & Aviation deeply rooted tradition of warm hospitality — a hospitality that welcomes over six million visitors to our shores annually.

Hon. Dionisio D’Aguilar, MP

I

extend a warm welcome to all the delegates who have travelled to The Bahamas to be a part of the 2018 International Pentecostal Assemblies of the World Spring Bishop Board Meeting and the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Council 69th Annual Convention. This is the second time the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (PAW) Bishop Board has held its meetings outside of the United States, and on both occasions — in 1992 and now in 2018 — The Bahamas was selected as the host destination. We are humbled by this honour. The Bahamas is a country of over 700 islands, that is home to a population of 380,000. As a nation whose number one industry is tourism, Bahamians have a

I would also like to welcome Presiding Prelate Charles H. Ellis III, and the sixty (plus) International Bishops who will be convening in Board meetings this week. I take this opportunity to commend Bishop Ellis J. Farrington under whose able leadership the congregations of The Bahamas undertake outreach in various forms to our local community: evangelism in the parks, delivery of care packages and food items to the needy, and hospital visitations, just to name a few. As a body of believers, members of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World have proved faithful in heeding the call of Christ to meet the needs of the less fortunate.

Visiting delegates, I invite you to take some leisure time from your schedule, to explore the sights of Nassau and adjacent Paradise Island. You’ll discover fascinating landmarks from our dynamic history, colourful marketplaces, great shopping, culinary delights, and much more… I wish you a time of productive meetings, inspiring exchanges and warm fellowship.

Message from the Leader of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition

Hon. Philip E. “Brave” Davis, Q.C., M.P.

Dear Brothers and Sisters of the Bahamas and Turks & Caicos Council of the Pentecostal Assemblies of world, Inc:

I

am very pleased to greet you in the name of the Jesus Christ and to offer of congratulations on the occasion of your 69th annual convention. You are on the eve of an exceptionally significant milestone.

By its nomenclature, your Council recalls the most important gift that Jesus Christ Himself left for us. That is the gift of the Holy Spirit. I often wonder what our world would be like without such a Presence. I cannot imagine life with no indwelling Presence of Christ, no internal conviction of sin, no scriptures, no knowledge of truth, no Internal Comforter, nor Intercessor, nor Counsellor. We would be totally on our own. It would be like living without lungs – a true state of bankruptcy.

8

69th Annual General Convention

In today’s world, the service of your Church is a formidable and necessary force. Particularly, in respect of the secular world, you are charged with responsibility of always reminding us that the Spirit will not prompt us to do anything that goes against Scripture. You are responsible to make a loud noise when “conscience” is conflicts with the truth of God’s Word. For the Progressive Liberal Party, which I am privileged to lead, we will do all that we can to build a Bahamas that carries with it the tenets of Christian values. If we work together, never tiring of doing good, much can be done to bring about significant relief to various communities and organisations. Looking at the good fruits of your sixty-nine years, we know that you are fully utilising your gifts and talents for the honour and glory of God. Our work is never done and His blessings are endless. I entreat you to continue to lift your voices for right and to provide service to the poor. The Progressive Liberal Party, my dear wife Ann Marie, and our children join me in wishing you a wonderful celebration! .

The Bahamas and Turks & Caicos Council of the PAW Inc.

Gone but not forgotten…. A Final Salute to….

• EVANGELIST RUTH ARNETTE COOPER was born on September 3, 1935 and experienced the baptism of the Holy Ghost at an early age

• She constantly reminisced on the song, “God Don’t Need No Matches” and realized that it was the power of the Holy Ghost which empowered and commissioned her as an Evangelist

• Evangelist Cooper travelled all around the family islands, United States and Turks and Caicos on missions trips preaching and teaching the Word of God

• Evangelist Cooper was privileged to be honoured as Mother of the Year in her home church of Greater Bethel Cathedral

• Having been given opportunity to speak at International Convention, Evangelist Cooer was awarded “The Pentecostal Pearl”

A favourite adage of hers was: “Follow me as I follow Christ.”

One of her greatest legacies is as a spiritual mother to many in the faith

• EVANGELIST MARY LOUISE Whyms was a quiet trailblazer for the Lord

• She would often say, ‘I am blessed to be a blessing’ ……and how accurate she was

• Having retired from secular work, she pursued the things of God with an insatiable zeal uncommon to many

• Evangelist Mary successfully pursued courses to enhance herself in ministry in the Mother Rachel Huyler College and then Aenon Bible College and was noted as the ‘most senior person’ in the class…an inspiration to many

• She would often say, “Whatever my hands findeth to do in the service of the Lord, I will gladly do!”

• Evangelist Mary Whyms could often be found in ‘a labor of love’ full with abundance for her own family yet always ready to lavish the same on others

• This woman of God held many positions in her local church and the national body but was above all….a woman of prayer

32 69th Annual General Convention

• MOTHER BLOSSOM DUNCOMBE was a woman devoted to God

She was faithful and devoted to her husband as a Proverbs 31 woman

She was a teacher of godly principles to her children

other Blossom was an active Missionary for years trailblazing the M streets of Andros preaching and teaching God’s Word.

She was a counselor, and always had a kind word and a praise for God.

• Mother “Blossom: truly epitomized her name always with a beautiful smile and a kind, impressionable and lasting word

• BROTHER ROLAND ALEXANDER KNOWLES : was a ‘quiet giant of a man’

• He truly lived the godly principle…’It is more blessed to give than to receive’.

• ‘Old Nes’ as he was affectionately called was a generous man who gave liberally to many including churches in his community.

• A true ‘family man’ who loved and supported his family was a tower of strength to his wife, District Elder Pastor Lillymae Knowles and his adoring children

His life was a quiet yet indelible imprint that will not be easily forgotten

• DISTRICT ELDER THOMAS MACKEY JR. was a fiery man of God who loved the Lord and the people of God

His experienced sunset on May 28, 2017

His life was full……he was a great soldier in the army of the Lord

• He was one of the pioneers of the faith in Andros and continued faithful to the end of his earthly sojourn

Many are his accomplishments and his legacy lives on

He began his pilgrimage on this earth July 5, 1934

• DR. NIGEL JOHNSON was a brilliant young man and immersed in the things of God by the Late Mother Prudence Rolle , his spiritual mentor and pastor, as well as his parents who were both ministers in the church

• Dr. Nigel was a stoic man who loved hard, worked hard and always demanded excellence in anything he was affiliated with

• Minister Elect Dr. Nigel loved the Lord…..he loved his family……he loved his church and in the latter phase of his earthly existence, his love escalated to another level……truly infectious

• Minister Elect Dr. Nigel was a worshipper and attended services regularly, Bible Study being top of his list

• He would literally beam whenever he had the opportunity to expound the Word

• He was heavily involved in his church: reading scriptures, praying and moderating services

• Minister Elect Dr. Nigel wa an intricate part of the Men’s Ministry and served as Asst. Secretary

• Always active, he used gave of his talents to the church especially in his teachings and presentations as a heath care professional and served along with his wife as the Director and Chairperson for the National Health Professionals Board of the local council

• Minister Elect Dr. Nigel worked closely with Elder Derek Farrington playing an integral role in the Youth Department so much so he was honoured while he lived

• This giant of a man always credited his Spiritual Mentors for encouraging him and aiding his path to Christianity.
