Obituary

Requel Cora Huyler~Nee Rolle was born to Atlanta Geleta Rolle~Nee Seymour and Joseph Henry Rolle in Nassau, New providence at Princess Margaret Hospital. She grew up in Kennedy Subdivision and visited Cat Island where both of her parents were from on school breaks. Requel attended Temple Christian School as a toddler and left in grade three to attend St. John’s College where she graduated in 1996. The man she would marry and spend the rest of her life with attended St. John’s and this is where they met. She studied primary education at the College of The Bahamas but was unable to complete after discovering she was pregnant with her first child Renaji. After she gave birth in 1997 she obtained gainful employment at the Barkley’s Bank in Harbour Bay Shopping Plaza in 1999. In 2001 she gave birth to her baby girl named Antoinez and in 2003 she gave birth to another baby girl named Trinity. In November of 2004 she happened to marry her high school sweetheart and soulmate Vivian Huyler who happened to be a skilled carpenter by trade. Requel was a family-oriented woman who did everything regardless of its nature or significance with family in mind. She would move heaven and earth to ensure that her family was okay. In 2009 she welcomed her baby girl Azariel affectionately known as “chubbster”. She loved working at the bank and bringing smiles to the customers faces, reading books in her spare time, eating her favorite foods such as curry chicken and spare-ribs, listening to gospel and R&B music,engaging in family activities such as movie nights, dinner dates, games with the kids, traveling on family vacations, and spending quality time with her kids and husband. Requel was a kind- hearted, God-fearing and highly educated woman. She and her family paid tithes regularly to the church and assisted others who were in need even when there wasn’t enough to share they gave what little they had to ensure that others could survive. Requel was one to stand her ground and defend her principles and ideologies when it came to her

position/views on circumstances. She could be a real hard-head at times but she meant well. She was really resourceful, honest, fair, smart, compassionate, understanding, forgiving and God fearing. The qualities she contained were nothing short of virtuous which qualified her to be the best wife any man could ask for. She was a blessing to all that she came in contact with because she always tried to fulfill the needs of others once it was within her power. Her life became a legacy that will never die. Long live Requel Cora Huyler~Nee Rolle.

Order of Service

RECEPTION OF THE CREMAINS

{ALL STAND}

Minister: With faith in Jesus Christ, we receive the cremains of our sister, Requel. Our sister was washed in Holy Baptism and anointed with the Holy Spirit. Let us therefore, with confidence, pray to God our Heavenly Father, the Giver of life, that He will raise her to perfection in the company of the Saints.

Minister: The Lord be with you.

All: And also with you.

Minister: Let us pray.

O God of grace and glory, we remember before you this day our sister, Requel. We thank you for giving her to us, her family and friends, to know and love as a companion on our earthly pilgrimage. In your boundless compassion, console us who mourn. Give us faith to see in death the gate of eternal life, so that in quiet confidence we may continue our course on earth, until, by your call, we are reunited with those who have gone before; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

ALL: Amen.

THE OPENING SENTENCES

Minister: Jesus said, “I am the resurrection, and I am the life; he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die.” {John 11: 25-26}

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His compassion never fails: every morning they are renewed. {Lamentations 3: 22-23}

I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. {Romans 8:38-39}

We brought nothing into this world, and we take nothing out. The Lord gives, and the Lord takes away: Blessed be the name of the Lord. {Job 1:21}

TRIBUTE BY | Samuel Pinder

HYMN: Through All The Changing Scenes

1. Through all the changing scenes of life, In trouble and in joy, The praises of my God shall still My heart and tongue employ.

2. O magnify the Lord with me, With me exalt His Name; When in distress to Him I called, He to my rescue came.

3. The hosts of God encamp around The dwellings of the just; Deliverance He affords to all Who on His succour trust.

Of Life

4. O make but trial of His love: Experience will decide How blest are they, and only they, Who in His truth confide.

5. Fear Him, ye saints, and you will then Have nothing else to fear; Make you His service your delight; Your wants shall be His care.

6. To Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, The God whom we adore, Be glory, as it was, is now, And shall be evermore. Amen.

Minister: The Lord be with you All: And also with you

COLLECT: Almighty God, we remember before you today your servant Requel and we pray that, having opened to her the gates of larger life, you will receive her more and more into your joyful service, that, with all who have served you in the past, she may share in the eternal victory of Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

THE FIRST LESSON | Isaiah 41:9-11, 13-14 | Read by: Azariel Huyler

Reader: A Reading from the Prophet Isaiah 41:9-11, 13-14

9 ‘You are my servant, I have chosen you and not cast you off ’; 10do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand. 11Yes, all who are incensed against you shall be ashamed and disgraced; those who strive against you shall be as nothing and shall perish. 13For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, ‘Do not fear, I will help you.’ 14Do not fear, you worm Jacob, you insect Israel! I will help you, says the Lord; your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel.

HYMN | The Lord’s My Shepherd, I’ll Not Want

1. The LORD’s my Shepherd, I’ll not want; he makes me down to lie in pastures green; He leadeth me the quiet waters by.

2. My soul He doth restore again, and me to walk doth make within the paths of righteousness, e’en for his own name’s sake.

3. Yea, though I walk through death’s dark vale, yet will I fear no ill; for thou art with me, and thy rod and staff me comfort still.

4. My table Thou hast furnishéd in presence of my foes; my head thou dost with oil anoint, and my cup overflows.

5. Goodness and mercy all my life shall surely follow me: and in God’s house forevermore my dwelling-place shall be.

THE SECOND LESSON | 2 Corinthians 4:14-5:1 | Read by: Renaji Rolle

Reader: A Reading from the Second Letter of Paul to the Corinthians, Chapter 4, beginning at the 14th Verse

Brothers and sisters, 14because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus, and will bring us with you into his presence. 15Yes, everything is for your sake, so that grace, as it extends to more and more people, may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God. 16So we do not lose heart. Even though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed day by day. 17For this slight momentary affliction is preparing us for an eternal weight of glory beyond all measure, 18because we look not at what can be seen but at what cannot be seen; for what can be seen is temporary, but what cannot be seen is eternal. 5For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

HYMN | THAT GLAD REUNION DAY

1. There will be a happy meeting in Heaven I know, When we see the many loved ones we’ve known here below Gathered on the blessed hilltops with hearts all aglow. That will be a glad reunion day.

CHORUS:

Glad day, a wonderful day, Glad day, what a glorious day; There with all the holy angels and loved ones to stay, That will be a glad reunion day.

2. There within the holy city we’ll sing and rejoice, Praising Christ the blessed Saviour with heart and with voice, Telling Him how we came to love Him and make Him our choice That will be a glad reunion day.

3. When we live a million years in that wonderful place, Basking in the love of Jesus, beholding His face, It will seem but just a moment of praising His grace, That will be a glad reunion day.

THE HOLY GOSPEL | John 14:1-6

Gospellor: The Lord be with you All: And also with you

Gospellor: A reading from the Holy Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ according to John. All: Glory to Christ our Saviour

Jesus said, to his disciples, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way to the place where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Gospellor: This is the Gospel of Christ.

All: Praise to Christ our Lord.

HYMN | The King Of Love My Shepherd Is”

1. The King of love my Shepherd is, whose goodness faileth never; I nothing lack if I am His, and He is mine for ever.

2. Where streams of living water flow my ransomed soul He leadeth, and where the verdant pastures grow, with food celestial feedeth.

3. Perverse and foolish oft I strayed, but yet in love He sought me, and on His shoulder gently laid, and home rejoicing brought me.

4. In death’s dark vale I fear no ill with Thee, dear Lord, beside me; Thy rod and staff my comfort still, Thy Cross before to guide me.

5. Thou spread’st a table in my sight; Thy unction grace bestoweth; and oh, what transport of delight From Thy pure chalice floweth!

6. And so through all the length of days Thy goodness faileth never; Good Shepherd, may I sing Thy praise within Thy house forever.

(Members of the congregation are kindly asked to remain in their places until the Altar Servers, the Clergy, the Urn and the immediate family have processed to the Columbarium for the committal and for their return.)

The Urn is taken to the Columbarium by Vivian Huyler

(As the Urn is borne from the Church the following sentences may be said:)

Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and giving life to those in the tomb. The Son of Righteousness is gloriously risen, giving light to those who sat in darkness and in the shadow of death.

The Lord will guide our feet into the way of peace, having taken away the sin of the world.

Christ will open the kingdom of heaven to all who believe in his Name, saying, “Come, O Blessed of my Father; inherit the kingdom prepared for you.”

Into paradise may the angels lead you. At your coming may the martyrs receive you, and bring you into the Holy City, Jerusalem.

THE COMMITTAL | Dean Harry Bain

RECESSIONAL HYMN

There Is A City Of Light

There’s a city of Light, where there cometh no night; ‘Tis a city of beauty untold; All my treasures are there and its beauty I’ll share, When I get to that city of gold.

(Chorus)

When I leave all trouble and care, I will say good morning up there; I will have great gladness untold, When I get to that city of gold

There’s no sorrow up there in that city so fair And no sickness can enter I’m told; Shadows all will have flown, I will meet friend I’ve known When we get to that city of gold.

Won’t you go there with me to the home of the free, Would you see heaven’s beauty unfold? If you will come along, we will sing heaven’s song When we get to that City of gold.

TRIBUTE BY: VIVIAN HUYLER YOUR LOVING HUSBAND

It is said that a man will find true and unconditional love once in his lifetime. I was fortunate to embrace such a reality the day I met you. I always believed that virtuous women never existed yet I always prayed that God would place one in my life. My prayers were answered because you certainly exemplified every remnant of virtue divinely possible. You kept the vicious and malicious beast within me chained and tranquil. I was able to see life differently from so many angles. I grew to become a better version of myself. You only wanted the best for me and offered all available resources to ensure that I was moulded into who I am today. I am a product of your hard work, without you believing in me regardless of how rough around the edges, I would have probably been dead a long time ago or lost in jail. I am grateful that God loan you to me to teach me the level of humility you contained. Regrettably I learned too quick because your assignment was too brief. God obviously needed you back because the world didn’t deserve you and I know he keeps the best for himself. Although it was brief I always knew I had a piece of God with me. Continue to watch over us your family we are depending on it. God must have loved me dearly to entrust me with one of his most preciously forged jewels.

MY TRIBUTE

I don’t even where to begin, words cannot suffice the amount of pain I felt when I saw my mom, my bestfriend , my everything laying dead in a lawn chair. No one knows the amount of trauma I endured watching my mommy having a seizure for the first time when I was just 12 and when I first found out she had cancer I was only 9. Scared and confused can’t even come close to the feeling I felt. If I said that I wasn’t jealous of my siblings who had 26, 22 and 20 years with her alive I’d be lying, but I cherished and appreciated the many moments that we had, and her memories will forever live on in my heart!

Sincerely,

The moment that you died my heart was torn in two. One side filled with heartache, the oth er died with you. An angel sent from heaven you truly graced the earth. Your love, your smile, your strength these things I’ll truly miss. You made me smile each day with just one simple text, my days without them have not been the same. I miss the car rides home each day what jokes and laughs we’d have. I miss the love you had for Khy, a love we’ll only ex perience once in a lifetime. There’s so much I could say, like how you left before I was ready and I’m truly torn apart. I wish our time together was longer but I knew one day you’d have go. God took you because he needed you more than I could ever know. Your fight was a good one, a strong black queen you were. You gained your wings now it’s time to take your rest, no more pain and misery. I love you and miss you, until we meet again.

~Ash~

“Anyone in the world can give up, its the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that’s true strength”

-Evangeline Love.

This qoute is a true representation of who you are. If i was asked to describe you, i would say that you were Caring and Kind but most importantly you were the strongest Lady I’ve known. The dark does not destroy the light, it defines it; and even in your toughest moments, you always kept a smile on your face. You didnt let your fight define you or dictate how your life should go, instead you did everything in your power to ensure that you lived your life with purpose. I still have so many things I wish I could say to you, I wish you didn’t have to go so soon. I will always remember the smiles, the tears, the lessons and the beautiful moments we shared. I pray that you’ve left a little bit of your strength behind for me. Your battle is over now, and at last you are free. You fought with grace and power and in my eyes, you still won. Take your Heavenly rest Mummy. Until we meet again.

~Trinity

“A GOOD NAME IS BETTER THAN PRECIOUS OINTMENT, AND THE DAY OF DEATH THAN THE DAY OF BIRTH.”

Ecclesiastes 12:7 Inheritance is not only monetary/materialistic, sometimes your father’s/mother’s reputation is more than enough. Mother’s reputation sure did proceed her. As it pertains to role models she’s on a plateau of her own. Goal oriented, heroic, diligent, passionate, vivacious, amiable, resolute, generous, and sincere are just a few adjectives I’ll use to paint the portrait of the woman mommy was. However the most important attribute I cannot fail to address was her indefatigability. Her tirelessness and persistence her ability to somehow never be fatigued her determination to never allow a challenge to best her endowment of bravery.

To those that might’ve only known mommy on an intermediate level or not at all and find yourself reading this thinking I’m using this as an opportunity to embellish a story as I normally would I assure you this is an anomaly. From I’ve known myself mommy had been gainfully employed at the bank possibly taking a sick day every other 5 years, never leaving until whatever tasks she had started are completed and even staying back to assist others in need.

Mommy had that same attitude throughout her family life as well helping family members friends and even strangers alike with problems ranging from minuscule to miracle work. Even her medical journey was a battle that even the Romans would’ve waved the white flag on. It is the positive memories I wish to dwell on because we all know that mommy wouldn’t have wanted us depressed and distraught but spending time together celebrating the times we had together.

It’s only the laughter of thinking back on how she’d beat us board games mercilessly despite me being an avid “player” or even Azariel’s occasional “non-intentional” cheating tactics. The games of pool or dominoes and even the punishment in bowling when she hadn’t done anything but work and read for the past couple months, had me contemplating reading some of Nora Roberts’ work to see if there’s some Da’vinci code in there. Countless other memories that help lift the atmosphere of pain and sorrow briefly. You’ve left a void that won’t ever be filled “buddy”, the tears are unstoppable as we ponder how we’re to navigate the intricacies of life without our guide best friend and most importantly our mother/wife. However as you’d always say look at the bright side in every situation, although I can’t seem to find any I’ll dwell on Matthew 5:4, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” Until we meet again buddy we love you and will never stop walking in your faith. Sincerely your bestest buddy ol’pal Clyde.

Renaji Rolle: son

Kelly, I have no idea where the time went since you walked in on your first day at work, over 25 years ago, so helpful, and going the extra mile from day one with the gift of simplifying things. I had no idea of the adventures that lay ahead for us. I had no idea that December 3rd would be both of our birthdays.

Over time I found out that you were a woman who put God first and then your family and I really admired that. You were decisive, caring, kind, honest, brave, strong, energetic, resilient, thoughtful, hopeful, smart, real, selfless and most definitely a true genuine friend. Nothing could break you, in fact you got stronger and stronger and repeatedly bounced back despite great obstacles.

My friend, your legacy speaks loudly, though you were quiet, but still ferocious occasionally, when necessary.

Kelly you are truly unforgettable and I will always treasure our friendship, wonderful memories too numerous to mention.

Thank you my sunshine! Thank you my Kelly!

Your friend Denise

THANK YOU

We, the family, express our sincere thanks and gratitude to the numerous family and friends who have been a source of comfort and strength during this difficult time as we mourn the loss of our dear mother. We are grateful for the kindness shown through flowers, cards, telephone calls, and visits, but most importantly, for your prayers. May the Almighty God bless and preserve you. You are in our prayers.
