FEATURED BUSINESS Sienna Gymnastics & Karate
hich Christmas gift will serve your child the best?...I-pads?...Video games?...Cell phones?...Maybe a new computer? You may be thinking it’s time to get your child out of his or her comfort zone and get’em going with something that will benefit him or her forever. Sienna Gymnastics & Karate (SGK) has just the gift for you! No electronic device can compete with the benefits of gymnastics and karate. Robert Gifford, founder of Sienna Gymnastics & Safety America Karate says, “ When you give your child the gift of gymnastics or karate you’re giving them strength, skill, confidence, health and a whole bunch of fun too!” Gifford, an 8th degree black belt in karate has been teaching martial arts to kids for 45 years. He founded Safety America Karate in 1994, which is now the largest martial arts school in Fort Bend County. Gifford taught the Sugar Land Police D.A.R.E. Program for 10 years and has implemented a stranger danger program as part of his regular martial arts curriculum. “The reason kids choose Safety America is because we are kid friendly. There is no question discipline is the key factor in a successful, quality karate program…you just have to know the right level of discipline” explains Gifford. Our karate program teaches kids as young as 4 years old and focuses on self-defense and building confidence in kids.
If karate chopping is not your kids “thing”, flipping might be! And kids are flipping for Gifford’s latest gymnastics center in Sienna Plantation. “We don’t do babysitting at Sienna Gymnastics. Kids actually learn the fundamental skills of gymnastics such as building strength, balance,
flexibility and coordination,” says Gifford. The students are periodically tested on their skill levels (very much like a karate belt test) in order to assure each individual kids’ progress. This system is intended to recognize students for their accomplishments and to help motivate them to keep moving forward. SGK offers a wide variety of programs including recreational gymnastics, tumbling, and cheerleading. Even your 18-month-old child can enjoy our
pre-school “Mom & Me” classes. There’s a lot more going on at SGK than just gymnastics and karate. Indeed, SGK is a convenient one-stop-shop for kids. They also host birthday parties, parents night out events and provide a wonderful play land for kids at their summer sports camp. SGK birthday parties include a wild ride on 90-foot indoor zip line and a fast pace ride down the giant moonwalk slide. Their state-of-the art facility also offers a huge foam pit and trampoline for those kids that are not so wild. If you want to double or triple their fun, bring them to our summer sports camp where they can enjoy an entire summer of fun activities and games. However, if you want to give mom and dad a well deserved break, don’t forget about their monthly Parents Night Out events where you can drop your kiddos off for a night of jedi-sword fighting, dodgeballing, pizza, a movie and much more! So, you can get your kids some electronics or a sweater, but if you’re looking for a safe, kid-friendly place for your kids to develop lifelong skills while having fun, Sienna Gymnastics & Karate is the place for you! Make 2016 a memorable year for your child. Call us at 281-778-7822 to come by and try a free class! www.siennagymnastics.com

Although December 12, 2015 proved to be an overcast rainy day, that didn’t stop our community from coming together to brighten the holidays for the clients of the Fort Bend Women’s Center! The Fort Bend Women’s Center is the primary advocate for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in the Fort Bend region. Empowering survivors and their children to achieve safety, heal and begin a new independent and self-sufficient life, while also striving to prevent violence against women. This event would not have been possible without our partners at the SPRAI, Volunteers and our amazing sponsors, including Dance Works, St. Catherine of Sienna Episcopal Church, Entouch, First Choice Emergency Room, Sara Nguyen Realtor, Absolute Color, Bushi Ban, Cakes U Crave, Double Dave’s Pizza Works, Leonetti Graphics, Meza Mechanical, Sienna Plantation Animal Hospital, Sienna Travel & Cruises, Sweetwater OBGYN Associates, Juice It Raw, Ula’s, 4Paws Gourmet Dog Treats, Lock Tite Storage, Brittany Macri Photography & more! Cardiology Practices Combine at
Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital
Two of Fort Bend’s leading cardiology practices have come together to form Houston Methodist Cardiology Associates. The new practice includes eight of the area’s most experienced and highly skilled heart specialists – working in concert with Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital’s new Heart & Vascular Center – to deliver the latest and most innovative cardiac care for local patients. “The formation of Houston Methodist Cardiology Associates is a major step forward for cardiac care here in Fort Bend,” says board-certified cardiologist Sherman Tang, M.D., one of the founders of the new group. “Our combined team of physicians includes specialists in interventional and diagnostic cardiology, cardiovascular surgery, cardiovascular disease, cardiac arrhythmia, and much more. Together, we can serve more patients throughout the area with a true team approach that is centered on innovation and collaboration. And we are supported by the trained staff and leading edge technology at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital and its outstanding Heart & Vascular Center.” The new practice has 6 office locations throughout Sugar Land, Houston, Wharton, and El Campo communities. The physicians at Houston Methodist Cardiology Associates speak multiple languages, including Korean,
Mandarin, Hindi, Bengali, Assamese, and Russian. The practice’s physicians include: Julia Adrogue, MD; B. Keith Ellis, MD; Michael H. Koo, MD; John Passmore, MD; Sangeeta Saikia, MD; Kesavan Shan, MD; Toussaint Smith, MD; and Sherman Tang, MD. The formation of Houston Methodist Cardiology Associates further strengthens Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital’s cardiology center of excellence. Over the years, Houston Methodist Sugar Land has achieved an impressive list of cardiac care “firsts” in Fort Bend, including the first open heart surgery, the first coronary angioplasty, the first abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery and more. “All of us at Houston Methodist Cardiology Associates are proud to be associated with Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, and we are committed to continuing the hospital’s tradition of excellence and delivering the best possible care to patients in Fort Bend and surrounding areas,” says board-certified cardiologist John Passmore, M.D. To make an appointment with a physician at Houston Methodist Cardiology Associates, go to houstonmethodist. org/online-scheduling. A FRESH START TO 2016
Mahoney’s House Cleaning Services (281)777-1526 mahoneyshousecleaningservices.com
A fresh start to 2016 can mean lots of things. For most, it is the promise of a new and better self. But why stop there? What about a new and better form of maintaining your home? Surely you have noticed the clutter and dust accumulating. What can you do? Where do you start? Is this a task you should take on yourself? Clutter is a never ending problem in every home. Chances are most of the clutter in your home is made up of junk mail, Christmas cards, and things that are not in their place. Spend an evening only working on decluttering your home. Grab a trash bag and throw away things you haven’t read or touched in more than a month. Keep a shoe box handy and place important papers you really can’t throw out and work on them later. Dusting your home – unless you are a professional cleaning service, you’re better off working from room to room so that you don’t get overwhelmed. Start off in the room you spend the most time in. You’ll want to make sure that you start by cleaning the ceiling fans and blinds since they are usually the dustiest and often overlooked. Afterwards, you will continue by dusting the tops of your furniture and working your way down. Microfiber towels work best because they help capture the dust. Any artificial plants you have must be taken outside and dusted thoroughly. When you’ve finished dusting - vacuuming and mopping will be the last steps. Deciding that your home is in need of a deep cleaning is simple. Ask yourself, do I have time to spend at least 8 hours in my home with no interruptions and no distractions? If the answer is no then you know what to do – call a house cleaning company they will get the job down in less than half the time and you won’t even have to lift a finger! When calling a house cleaning company, make sure to ask for a checklist so that you can be assured that their services meet your needs. Set a time when your home will be empty. This will allow the team to arrive and work with through the house with little interruptions. Deep cleanings really help prepare your home for future cleanings. If you decide to take this responsibility on your own focus on the areas of the house that are used the most often so that you can see and feel the effects of the deep cleaning well within the following weeks after services.
Regardless of which option you choose to get the end result. A clean home at the beginning of the New Year is the best way to start the year new. Just think of it as a fresh start to
2016!
