Teaching Assistant (Temporary) Specifically for 1:1 Sensory Support 28.75 hours/week – 39 weeks a year Band D (£17,802 - £20,198 pro rata) Temporary position required for immediate start or as soon as possible. This post is specifically required to provide individualised support to a young person who is deaf-blind. The post would involve working with a specialist team for multisensory impairment and other sensory specialist TA to provide high quality provision for a young person. Applicants should be qualified to a minimum of NVQ3 level or equivalent. The key aspects of this role are: to provide sensory interpretation of the world to the child to support their learning, promote effective communication and develop personal independence skills. This post will require some understanding of visual and hearing impairment as well as multisensory impairment. Training can be provided for very specialised skills such as BSL signing and on-body communication. An understanding of the principles of behaviour management and interpreting communication through behaviour would be an advantage. This role provides an exciting opportunity to support a child in a unique way which brings many rewards. The successful applicant would be working within a class team and would receive the support and guidance of the Woodlands Sensory Advice team to constantly improve and develop their skills and expertise in this area. In order for you not to waste your time or ours, please do not apply if you have not demonstrated at least good teaching, backed up by two referees (we will phone the schools in the first instance). You need to have good emotional intelligence, so, if you take a while to settle into a place, then working across a number of schools may not be for you. If you are not committed to being amongst the best teachers in the city, which takes hard work and commitment, then this will not be for you.
