Dr. Shokar has always had a keen interest in surgery since he started practicing veterinary medicine. Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery!

s the decades progress, new medical technology emerges that paves the way for increased efficiency, better predictability, and improved safety when it comes to tedious procedures and unique cases. The Ziemer FEMTO LDV Z8 laser is the latest technology that we have introduced to Helm Vision Group. This laser has transformed our LASIK laser vision correction procedures to be completely blade free and assists us with cataract procedures, as well. Our primary, initial reason for acquiring the Ziemer FEMTO LDV Z8 laser was to perform part of the procedure for LASIK laser vision correction, replacing the microkeratome blade. This versatile laser, however, is also capable of performing laser-assisted cataract surgery so we began using it for this purpose. What we have discovered through its use has been surprising! I was surprised to find that cataract surgery was made easier for me as a surgeon. The precision of the laser-made incisions in the cornea and in the lens capsule are amazing. The most important help provided by the laser though, is that it softens the cataract by lasering it into smaller pieces. That makes it so that it requires less ultrasound energy to remove it. This results in easier surgery and a faster recovery. For some cataracts that are more advanced, femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery truly is a safer procedure. o I need an eye exam every time I need more contact lenses? In one simple word, YES. The Doctors and staff at Corben Optometry believe that having an exam will reduce the potential implications of overuse and abuse of contact lens wear. The Doctors look for signs of damage that, if left untreated, may lead to more severe problems. These often have no symptoms early on and you may be totally unaware of them. Contact lenses are often more complex than they appear. Contact lens wear causes many changes to cells and tissues of the eye, and sometimes wearing contact lenses can damage the cornea (the clear window of the eye). Even if you are currently experiencing no problems, the lenses may be causing damage to your eyes. After the initial exam, the doctors will perform a contact lens exam. At this time, they will re-evaluate the fit of your contact lenses and observe if there are changes to the health of your eyes caused by your lenses. They will ensure that you will have a correct, current prescription to help avoid any serious problems, especially if you wear your lenses on an extended or overnight schedule. Once properly fit, you will be asked to return to have a follow-up visit. At this time the doctor will check your vision with the contact lenses on, evaluate the fit of the lenses and ensure that the lenses are not irritating your eyes. If there needs to be a change, it is made at this time. At Corben Optometry the care of your eyes is our most concern when wearing contact lenses, This is why we have a policy that anytime with in the year you are having difficulties with your contact lenses or your vision, you can call the office and be seen as soon as possible to fix the issue. This is included with your initial contact lens fitting fee. If we need to change the brand or power, whatever lenses you have left , we gladly exchange for the new ones. Even if the boxes are open and they were purchased from the office. Do not allow a company to substitute a different brand or manufacturer than you currently have. While this may be acceptable in some situations, there are differences in the water content and shape between different brands. The correct choice of which lens is right for you should only be made based on examination by your doctor, not over the phone or Internet.
