Note from theEditor I was accepted onto the course and was so excited! Studying an art degree has changed my life, how I see the world, how I think, how I dress... Everything. Art became me and I carried on making art about my everyday life and situations that the spectator would not always like to be faced with. I believe art should be for the people, it should be created with a purpose, about social, political and mental aspects that we all experience in our lives. It should be created to inspire action and inspire people to make a change! Mr.Panupong Niamphang

Note from theEditor

Art editors make sure that magazines look good and are easy to read. They present words and images in a way that appeals to readers and has visual impact. You’ll need to be creative and have a good understanding of your customers and readers. Great IT skills will help you to complete your work to high standards and in good time

3

for tight deadlines. There are no set entry requirements to become and art editor. New entrants often have a degree in an art subject. If you have artistic talent and can show employers that you have experience, through a broad portfolio of work, then you could get into this job without a degree.

In the highly competitive consumer magazine market, the art editor’s role is essential to the success of a publication. The magazine’s cover, in particular, must always look distinctive, to attract potential buyers. Mr.Panupong Niamphang

For over eight years, I have been studying arts. I believe art is a powerful tool that can change the world in many ways. To me, art is the life - everything we see is art. It can also be a therapeutic tool to help an individual through a traumatic situation and influence them to chase their dreams or create change. I considered myself as an artist for the first time when I was studying BTEC Art and Design Foundation at Knowsley Community College. I created a project called ‘Illusions, Dreams and Memories’, about my thoughts, what I believed in and what

I experienced in my life. What I did not know was that this project was about to change my life. Never would I have thought about using art on these personal experiences. I never really considered myself as an ‘artist’. When I did, I realised how art helped me, art saved me and inspired me to create art about my life and what changes I wanted to make. I felt like it was something that pushed me to want to make a change or bring people back down to reality and face things in society that are easily dismissed or ignored. 5

At first, I never had any intensions of going to university and studying an art degree because I never thought I was good enough for higher education. When doing this project, expressing my feelings, I started to belief in myself, and applied to Liverpool Hope University three months after the deadline to see what would happen.

of Color 7

The Meanings Of Colors Certain colors are tied to cultural, emotional, and social connotations. Here are some meanings of colors Tints and shades can help influence the feelings that color conveys. For instance, a darker shade of blue would convey more security and integrity. Lighter shades of blue would convey more tranquility and peace. Some colors have developed a particular meaning over time due to use from certain organizations (i.e. a branding effective). 8

For instance, the Catholic Church uses deep shades of purple and red, giving the colors a spiritual meaning. Pink has also become associated with femininity. Countries have also adopted certain colors as their own

Example For the most part, dark colors are strong complements to bright colors. That is why most books are designed using white backgrounds and black text. Each color has a contrast value (white is the lightest and black is the darkest). Yellow and green have light values (so they would be difficult to read on a white background). The client really wants to drive home that products are organic. One option is green, which conveys thoughts of freshness and the environment. The following shade of green, however, is not very feminine:So the

shade would need to be a little lightIf you also want to convey a bit of tranquility, you would add a bit of blue. As Paul Van Slembrouck (a data visualization and neuroscience aficionado) also points out in the same Quora thread, the science of color comes down to how the brain processes signals. Our e eyes are extremely responsive to yellow, moderately to green and red, and unresponsive to black and purple. Brandon Burns explains that the science of color is base don the color wheel — how far any two colors are away from each other. Far means high

contrast, and close means low contrast. The way to pick more ‘pleasing’ results will be to coordinate numbers of colors based on spacing on the color wheel. You can use tools like the Color Scheme Designer to pick the sets of colors that work well for your company or branding goals.

“visual arts” includes fine art as well as the applied, decorative arts and crafts, but this was not always the case. Before the Arts and Crafts Movement in Britain and elsewhere at the turn of the 20th century, the term ‘artist’ was often restricted to a person working in the fine arts (such as painting, sculpture, or printmaking) and not the handicraft, craft, or applied art media. The distinction was emphasized by artists of the Arts and Crafts Movement, who valued vernacular art forms as much as high forms. Art schools made a distinction between the fine arts and the crafts, maintaining that a craftsperson could not be considered a practitioner of the arts.

The visual arts are art forms such as ceramics, drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, design, crafts, photography, video, filmmaking and architecture. Many artistic disciplines (performing arts, conceptual art, textile arts) involve aspects of the visual arts as well as arts of other types. Also included within the visual arts are the applied arts such as industrial design, graphic design, fashion design, interior design and decorative art.

13

The increasing tendency to privilege painting, and to a lesser degree sculpture, above other arts has been a feature of Western art as well as East Asian art. In both regions painting has been seen as relying to the highest degree on the imagination of the artist, and the furthest removed from manual labour - in Chinese painting the most highly valued styles were those of "scholar-painting", at least in theory practiced by gentleman amateurs. The Western hierarchy of genres reflected similar attitudes.

Painting taken literally is the practice of applying pigment suspended in a carrier (or medium) and a binding agent (a glue) to a surface (support) such as paper, canvas or a wall. However, when used in an artistic sense it means the use of this activity in combination with drawing, composition and, or, other aesthetic considerations in order to manifest the expressive and conceptual intention of the practitioner. Painting is also used to express spiritual motifs and ideas. 16

The term “the drama” refers to “the dramatic branch of literature; the dramatic art”.[2] The term “drama” can refer to any kind of dramatic performance, including film, radio play, television play, and closet drama, however, this article is concerned solely with the enactment of a play in a theatre, performed by actors, on a stage, before an audience. Unlike other forms of literature the structure of dramatic texts is directly influenced by this collaborative mode of production and a collective form of reception.

17

drama

In the context of film and television, drama is a type of narrative fiction (or semi-fiction) intended to be more serious than humorous in tone, focusing on in-depth development of realistic characters who must deal with realistic emotional struggles. A drama in this context is commonly considered the opposite of a comedy, but may also be

considered distinct from other works of some broad types of literature, such as a fantasy. To distinguish drama, in this narrower sense, from the broader use of the same word to mean the general storytelling mode of live performance, the word “drama” is often included as part of a phrase to specify its meaning. For instance, in the sense of a television

18

genre, more common specific terms are a “drama show”, “drama series”, or “television drama” in the United States; “dramatic programming” in the United Kingdom; or “tele drama” in Sri Lanka. In the sense of a type of film, the common term is a “drama film”. The term “the drama” refers to “the dramatic branch of literature; the dramatic art”

music

Music is an art form and cultural activity whose medium is silence and sound. The common elements of music are pitch (which governs melody and harmony), rhythm (and its associated concepts tempo, meter, and articulation), dynamics

19

(loudness and softness), and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture (which are sometimes termed the “color of a musical sound). Different styles or types of music may emphasize, de-emphasize or omit some of these elements.

The present article is about music theory properly speaking, i.e. about theories, speculations and hypotheses made about the various aspects of music. It describes the elements of music only insofar as they give way to such theories; other information about

these elements will be found in other articles such as Aspect of music and the specific parameters of music described there. Textbooks, especially in the United States of America, often also include under the term “theory elements of musical acoustics,

considerations of musical notation, techniques of (often tonal) composition (Harmony and Counterpoint), etc., which will not be dealt with as such here, but only as they were the subject of theories and hypotheses. 20

21

Music is performed with a vast range of instruments and with vocal techniques ranging from singing to rapping, and there are solely instrumental pieces, solely vocal pieces (such as songs without instrumental accompaniment) and pieces that combine singing and instruments. (mousike; "art of the Muses"). In its most general form, the activities describing music as an art form include the production

of works of music (songs, tunes, symphonies, and so on), the criticism of music, the study of the history of music, and the aesthetic examination of music. Ancient Greek and Indian philosophers defined music as tones ordered horizontally as melodies and vertically as harmonies. Common sayings such as "the harmony of the spheres" and "it is music to my ears"

music

point to the notion that music is often ordered and pleasant to listen to. However, 20th-century composer John Cage thought that any sound can be music, saying, for example, "There is no noise, only sound." 22

literature Literature, in its broadest sense, consists of any written productions. More restrictively, it refers to those deemed to have artistic or intellectual value, or which deploy language in ways that differ from ordinary usage. Its Latin root literatura/litteratura (derived itself from littera: letter or handwriting) was used to refer to all written accounts, though

contemporary definitions extend the term to include texts that are spoken or sung (oral literature). Literature can be classified according to whether it is fiction or non-fiction and whether it is poetry or prose; it can be further distinguished according to major forms such as the novel, short story or drama; and works are often categorized according to historical periods or their adherence to certain

23

aesthetic features or expectations (genre). The concept has changed meaning over time: nowadays it can broaden to include non-written verbal art forms, and thus it is difficult to agree on its origin, which can be paired with that of language or writing itself. Developments in print technology have allowed an evergrowing distribution and proliferation of written works, culminating in electronic literature.
