A New Approach
THROUGH UNPRECEDENTED TIMES Spring has sprung: flowers are blooming, days are longer, the temperature is rising, and we’re all stuck inside. Right now, we are living through an unprecedented time. Spring is typically a time where we see the market start to take off as buyers and sellers are looking to make a change; however, this spring season is unlike any other we’ve ever experienced. Through February of 2020, closed sales were up 8% in Nassau County and 14% in Suffolk county when compared with the same period of time in 2019. The median sale price in Nassau was $529,000, a 5% increase from last February, while the median sale price in Suffolk was $405,000, which is an increase of almost 7%. 2020 kicked off to a great start: with low-interest rates, a soaring economy, record unemployment, and the Spring real estate market about to hit, we were on track to have another amazing year. COVID-19 changed everything. This global pandemic has instigated an extreme societal response, including the indefinite closure of schools and businesses, stay-at-home orders, and lockdowns. Real estate is no exception- due to the coronavirus, real estate companies have shut their doors, and agents have had to make some drastic changes. The industry as a whole has shifted. Our vocabulary includes new terms like “flatten the curve,” “nonessential,” and “social distancing.” We’ve had to adapt to the changing times: going from person to person transactions to a near-complete virtual experience. Showings are being done through Facetime, and closings are happening in parking lots. We’re taking this time to fine-tune our technology skills and educate ourselves to continue to be the best agents in the industry. Throughout all of this uncertainty, one thing is for sure: our sense of community is strong. We will come back from this stronger and more compassionate. The silver lining in all of this is extra quality time spent with your loved ones. Stay healthy, stay happy, and stay home.
