Live Like a Local Let us find your destination
Live Like a Local Say it isn’t so... Labor Day weekend is already here! Where has the summer gone? In this issue we’re featuring some great ways to get out and enjoy the three day weekend. Did you know that Labor Day is a U.S. national holiday held the first Monday of every September? Unlike most U.S. holidays, it is a celebration without rituals, except for shopping and barbecuing. For most people it simply marks the last weekend of summer and the start of the school year. Living like a local on Long Island is easy. As we say our last goodbyes to the carefree days of summer, going to the beach and heading out on family vacations, we want to give you one more opportunity to enjoy all that a Long Island summer has to offer. The choices of things to do and see this weekend are endless. Whether you want to head out East, visit the North or South Shore or just relax in your own town - read through this issue of Live Like a Local and start planning. The island is loaded with festivals, fairs, and concerts for your enjoyment. There is even a concert on top of a lighthouse! The sun setting earlier, cooler mornings, and the sounds of the cicada bugs are all signs of a fabulous fall waiting for us. Don’t fret, we all know Long Island in the fall is a magical place. Stay tuned for more issues of Live Like a Local in the coming weeks. We encourage you to get out and explore, be transformed to another place, and call one of our Signature Agents to show you how to Live Like a Local. You never know, you just might fall in love with a new destination you want to call home. We hope you enjoy our Signature series Live Like a Local, where we spotlight some amazing ways to enjoy this island we all call HOME! Until Next Time, Pete, Kathy and your Signature Team

Huntington Lighthouse Our Beloved Huntington Lighthouse and its History On March 7, 1907, Congress appropriated $40,000 for construction of a new lighthouse on a reef extending north from West Neck at the entrance to both Lloyd Harbor and Huntington Harbor. The new structure completed in 1912 was a unique lighthouse, in both design and construction. The Venetian Renaissance (Beaux Art) style makes the lighthouse look like a small castle. The Huntington Lighthouse Preservation Society, Inc. (formerly, Save Huntington’s Lighthouse, Inc.) was formed in 1985 by concerned citizens to prevent the tear down and demolition of the Lloyd Harbor Light Station and its replacement with an automated light tower by the United States Coast Guard. The objectives of the organization are to restore, preserve and maintain the historic lighthouse listed on the National Historic Register as the Huntington Harbor Lighthouse. The organization is dedicated to ongoing preservation of the interior and exterior and preserve it for public use as an educational and historic resource while maintaining its use as an active aid to navigation.
