Live Like a Local The Crisp Days of Fall! In this edition of Live Like a Local we are celebrating the many ways to get out and enjoy the change in seasons and all that fall has to offer. As the seasons shift, with it comes excitement, beauty and an ever lasting appreciation of Long Island’s changing landscape and how each community celebrates them. To quote F. Scott Fitzgerald “Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.” We start to enjoy the cozy feeling of being home, lighting a fire, heating up a big pot of soup, and watching a movie or a football game on TV. We can choose to attend the many fall festivals and street fairs each weekend, or simply enjoy the camaraderie of rooting for the home team at the kids sporting events. Let’s not forget the fun of pumpkin picking, apple picking, a visit to the wineries, or the joy of shopping for your new fall wardrobe, adding cashmere sweaters, boots, and new scarves to keep you in style! There is something incredibly comforting about this time of year. We know the holidays will be upon us soon enough, and now is a time to enjoy the broad spectrum of colors – burnt oranges, warm yellows and bright reds! Stopping at your local garden center or farm stand – selecting your mums, bales of hay and cabbage for your front yard give you the feeling of proud homeownership! It’s a wonderful time to put on a light jacket, stroll through town, grab a bite to eat, and watch the sun sink lower in the sky each day. Give’ Em Pumpkin to Talk About It’s time to gather up the kids and head for the great pumpkin patch. Living on Long Island allows us to go to the local nursery to purchase our pumpkins, gourds and mums…or to take it to the next level at some of these amazing Farms where you can find corn mazes, hayrides, pumpkins still attached to the vines, and farm animals. Many of the farms offer roasted corn, apple cider, and seasonal treats.

| Time to head to Jericho Cider Mill. The original mill dates back to the 1800’s and has a

| Ready for lunch? Head to Syosset for a quick bite and to stroll through the town! The food
really interesting history including one of the first steam machines in the area, used to make champagne cider. The mill gets its apples from the Hudson Valley and is known for its home baked pies and fresh cider. You know what they say, an apple a day… options are amazing, try Greek at Platia, Italian at Steve’s Piccola Bussola, or Japanese at Kashi. You name it, this town has it!
3:00PM | Let’s hit the pumpkin patch and all the fun activities that go along with it! A corn maze, some live animals, or maybe a hayride. The two farms that can offer these experiences are White Post Farms in Melville or Albert H. Schmitt Farms in Dix Hills.
5:00PM | Why not stroll through Walt Whitman Mall? They just finished renovating with shops both inside and out.
7:00PM | One last stop for a delicious dinner before you head home! Try Rusted Root in Woodbury, Rare 650 in Syosset, or One North in Jericho.
