M
aurizio Pignotti is a landscape photographer, especially nocturnal landscape, lives in Civitanova Marche, Italy. Try to look at the scenery with one eye than usual, he fuses his artistic vision of objects with the reality surrounds him. The search for a wilderness lived in total hotrod leads him to make shots that reflect the mood of the moment. His photos are marked by an unmistakable signature, passion and alchemy that is created between the photographer and the landscape surrounds it. Last year, He was very interested and heavily focused on Time Lapse photographic technique. His first video, Blue Mountains, has become a great success with thousands viewers in YouTube. In addition, the National Park of Mount Sibillini used it as a promotion to celebrate the 10,000 inscribed to the network . Now it is also used to promote each

He loves to experiment with new shooting techniques or designs and builds the part of his equipment to be used, such as a table to chase the celestial equator, or the dolly room for time-lapse shooting on the move. Hi Maurizio, tell us a little bit about yourself I live and work in a city that overlooks to the sea, Civitanova Marche, I love the coast as much as the Mountain . Fortunate to have the Parco Nazionale dei Monti Sibillini near from home and also a cabin that I have dreamed of, leads me to these places where live in intensity and evocative. Photography allows me to show these places as I see them, both for myself and with my spirit

How did you get into this vein of photography and what gives you ideas and inspires you to create such awesome imagery? I am very interested about Astronomy since I was child. Stars, universe and everything that construct them have abducted me and taken me away with them. They have charmed me. I began astrophotography with a telescope, then gradually I started landscapes photography at night.

You work are absolutely amazing, do you remember your first photography? How do you educate yourself to take better photos? The first picture was full of defects. I took the first picture with a SLR camera that still used negative film. In 2003, I have switched to digital, and I have opened a new world. Nothing will be same as before, technique, versatility and development totally changed, and I tried to understand the mechanisms, without changed my spirit of research and experiment. With the eye practice, I can make my technique perfect. Gradually passed from classical to exclusive night landscape photography, I realized that this is my way. I try to look at the scenery with a different eye than usual, merging my artistic vision of things with the reality around me. What do you do outside of photography? Whether it helped influence on your work? I am an entrepreneur, working in the field of renewable energy sources, so I love nature and everything that surrounds us. How would you describe your photographic style and how it has developed over the years? My photography is the evolution of technique and style. I try to blend the photo with a sort of impressionistic art.

The first photographer that comes to your mind and why? Alex Cherney, looking at his picture, I fell in love with the night landscape, and the other is Marc Adamus. These two photographers are the ones that have inspired me. What is your favourite recent image you have shot recently and what it means to you? “Strips�, my latest work, a very special trip to a sea cave. The fantastic night sea, something indescribable. Some shots I had to be carried out completely immersed in salt water. Most of your work is in astrophotography which capture the beauty of the Milky Way, star trail and the others night things, beating the cold and the sleep. how do you do it? is there any particular reason for it? I believe that doing photography at night is much more complicated than during the day. The visibility and anything. There are wild animals and very cold in the winter. The cold is the enemy number one, very difficult to work in extreme conditions, but my passion has led me to face everything. How difficult it is for the average amateur photographer? This type of photography can make amateur photographers enthusiastic, but sometimes difficult to approach. Many of them have dropped out, those who most persevering continues. It takes many hours on the training ground to get good pictures. What, in your opinion, is the toughest subject to image? The Milky Way, must know how to shoot well in colors and the right

How do you prepare to capture the beautiful photography of the night sky? I always check the weather before leaving for a photo session at night, choose a moonless night, finally an area with little light pollution. It is important to get suitable location, then with the help from a software, I can locate the milky way in advance and compose better photos. What do you feel is the most challenging things about astrophotography? how did you overcome them? The are many difficulties, you can overcome with practice and experiment, sometimes with the failures. Tell us the story behind the “Cave Paradise�, how did you get there? And how did you manage to get that amazing show of stone, milky way and the light? Cave Paradise was an extraordinary job that I have tried and liked over time. After careful research, I found a location with many sea caves and little light pollution. But to get to those places, I had to walk with a 25 kg backpack. I slept 2 nights in the tent, I immersed myself completely to survive in salt water environment, facing the risk of losing the equipment. An incredibly difficult situation to explain. Could you please tell us something about your gear, technique and creating process? would you give us a brief walk through your work flow for astrophotography? I often change equipment, now I use a Nikon D3s, really great at high ISO. I prefer the optical Nikkor 14/24mm f2, 8, the optic is truly great. I always shoot in RAW, and process it all in ACR and then cs6. What kind of special post-processing do you have to focus on when creating images that are largely made of dark pixels? 80% in Adobe Camera Raw, not to lose the quality of the file, then in adobe CS6 the port in 16-bit TIFF

What are some of your suggestions for camera, lenses and accessories for beginners looking to build their own kit? A full frame camera, with better results, and optical very short type 14mm, especially bright f2, 8 or f/1,4. What advice do you have for those who are interested in entering the field of astrophotography? It takes a lot of passion, patience and perseverance Is there anything you would have done differently during your photographic career? No, I must say that I would do everything so as I did. Any other thoughts? I have many projects in progress, a new very special video, and new photos with unusual subjects and points of framing ever seen.

Apa yang membuat anda tertarik pada fotografi? Motivasi saya tertarik pada dunia fotografi awalnya adalah wanita, karna awal saya mengenal fotografi adalah modeling dan semua orang pasti tau Bandung adalah salah satu kota modeling di Indonesia. (Banyak banget cewe-cewe cantik :*) dan seiring waktu dan Ternate mengubah cara pandang saya terhadap fotografi. I love Ternate
Bagaimana anda mempelajari fotografi? Saya mempelajari fotografi dengan membaca artikel-artikel tentang ilmu fotografi yang banyak di share di beberapa website serta banyak melihat referensi foto dari fotografer yang menjadi inspirasi bagi saya. Khusus untuk fotografi long exposure, pertama kali saya dibimbing oleh A.J. Tadjoel Arifin (haturnuhun kang asep :D :*)
Kira-kira bagaimana seandainya anda tetap berada di Bandung saat itu? Mungkin pada saat saya di bandung sampai dengan saat ini, saya tidak akan mengenal foto long exposure dan hal yang terlupakan adalah saya tidak mengetahui teknik long exposure untuk mengabadikan keindahan alam di maluku utara dengan alat perekam cahaya, serta tidak mengenal teman teman di siksakamera yang begitu luar biasa dalam menghasilkan karya seni foto long exposure yang luar biasa.

Anda seringkali menampilkan foto dalam hitam putih, mengapa? Bagi saya foto hitam putih memiliki emosional yang begitu kuat serta penuh dengan nilai artistik, selain itu foto hitam putih tak lekang di makan oleh waktu untuk di nikmati.
Berbicara mengenai peralatan, kamera dan lensa apakah yang anda gunakan? Saya menggunakan kamera Canon EOS 5D mark II dengan lensa Canon EF 17-40mm f/4 L USM. Saya juga menggunakan beberapa filter antara lain: B+W ND 110, B+W ND 64, Gradual Neutral Density dari HiTech serta B+W Circular Polarizer. Untuk tripod Saya menggukan Manfotto.
Apa yang sebenarnya paling membuat anda merasa “hidup� didalam fotorafi? Saya sudah mencoba beberapa genre, namun yang paling mengesankan hanyalah mengabadikan keindahan alam khususnya laut dan awan.

Indonesia timur memang terkenal dengan surganya fotografi landscape karena kondisi geografisnya yang memang indah. Apakah itu merupakan faktor penting dalam foto anda? Kondisi geografis di indonesia timur khususnya maluku utara menjadi faktor penting dalam karya foto saya, di samping itu saya berkeinginan untuk membantu memperkenalkan keindahan alam maluku utara bersama teman teman anggota fokusmaut [fotografer klub se - maluku utara] ke masyarakat luas secara visual dengan berbekal perekam cahaya. Hal apakah yang menurut anda paling menantang dalam fotografi long exposure? Menurut saya hal yang paling menantang adalah bagaimana menciptakan sebuah karya dengan komposisi yang berbeda, karena dengan penguasaan teknik saja tidak cukup untuk menghasilkan sebuah karya yang baik. Siapakah fotografer yang menjadi sumber inspirasi anda? Yadi yasin, A.J. Tadjoel Arifin, Chaerul Umam dan Michael Levin. Menurut Anda apa yang dibutuhkan untuk membuat karya yang lebih baik? Penguasaan terhadap teknik fotografi, cermat dalam berkomposisi dan bervisualisasi dengan objek yang ada, disertai dengan sedikit pengetahuan dalam editing.

LIKE A HARP’S STRINGS VI Julia Anna Gospodarou

This image is called “like A Harp’s Strings VI – Encore” and is the last image in the award-winning series”Like A Harp’s Strings” that presents the Katehaki Pedestrian Bridge in Athens like a Concert for Strings where the only instrument playing in the orchestra is the harp. The comparison of the bridge with a harp was suggested by its shape and by the fact that it is a cable-stayed bridge which from some angles reminds very much of a harp playing its melody in the wind. I’ve shot this image during the first edition of the Athens Fine Art Architectural Workshop and now we are very close to its second edition where I will try to find another unique perspective over this famous by now bridge. My concern when I took this shot was to make of it a meaningful continuation to my series, an image that would tell the story of this bridge starting from where the previous image left it. Here is a link to the entire series so things can be clearer as for my intentions. I probably managed to do that because this series was shortly after that chosen among the Top 10 finalists at the SWPA 2012 Sony World Photography Awards. I’ve shot this image with an ultra-wide lens, the Nikon 10-24mm, without which this shot wouldn’t have been possible. A longer lens couldn’t get enough of the field in view, thus taking away from the impact of the image. My main idea when I composed was for all the cables of the bridge to be perfectly aligned so they look like one (what you see on the top of the pylon is not one cable, but 14 cables aligned one behind the other), just like a perfectly synchronized orchestra, where all the instruments of the same type are playing in unison. The processing was done in Photoshop CS5, Lightroom 4 and NIK Silver Efex Pro 2. The biggest intervention in the image was something that I do in all my photographs, to modify the balance of light in the image so that it suits my vision about this image, with the result that the RAW file and the final image are very different in most aspects related to light.

This photo was taken in Zumaïa, Spain, under a very cloudy sky, just before the rain. This represent a geological formation called “Flysch”, between Deba and Zumaïa, you can find several kilometres of rugged cliffs that lead down into the sea, formed through the erosive action of water and movements of land over the course of 50 million years. These rocks have always been of interest to geologists on account of their fossil remains.

It was my second time to visit Mt. Fuji. My Japanese friend, also a photographer, brought me to Lake Sai. This is a small lake around Mt. Fuji. It was quite a very windy day, lots of clouds, and terribly cold at about 5 degrees. As I was analyzing the scene, I noticed that the clouds are floating around Mt. Fuji. I took shots both long exposure and short exposures. I particularly liked this 6 second shot because the texture of the cloud remained. During post processing, I decided to make it dark to emphasize the clouds going around Mt. Fuji. It looks like a lady with a beautiful dress dancing.

Agak tricky, jangan sampai menyita perhatian kalau mengambil foto disana karena petugas keamanan kadang menghampiri dan akhirnya melarang. Foto ini diambil dengan menggunakan teknik digital blending 2 foto untuk mendapatkan hitlight dan shadow. Foto pertama dengan iso 50, f/13, 60 detik dan foto kedua dengan iso 50, f/22, 60 detik. Kemudian digabung di Photoshop dengan masking, dan difinishing dengan plug in Nik Color Effect (pro contrast, brilliance/ warmth dan terakhir detail extractor).

This was taken on my second trip to Venice, and I had planned an early evening shoot here. I went back on three different evenings to try and capture the scene without boats and boat trails, this was quite difficult as this is a very busy canal in Venice. I kept the length of the exposure below a minute so that as soon as one Vaporetto left the scene I would try again. Eventually I got this shot which was relatively free from any movement in the water

Foto ini diambil di pantai Cobo yang merupakan tempat wisata yang terletak di sebelah utara Pulau Tidore, tempat ini terkenal dengan keindahan pantainya. Perjalanan menuju pulau Tidore menggunakan speed boat memakan waktu sekitar 10 menit. Objek ini cukup unik bagi saya, dengan sajian minimalis menggunakan teknik long exposure dapat merepresentasikan apa yang ada di visual saya.

TIPS AND TRICKS:
MEMOTRET MILKY WAY Foto dan naskah: Adek Orion
M
ilky Way (dalam bahasa indonesia di kenal dengan nama Bima Sakti) berasal dari bahasa Latin Via Lactea, diambil lagi dari bahasa Yunani Γαλαξίας Galaxias yang berarti “susu”). Milky Way adalah galaksi spiral yang memiliki 200-400 miliar bintang dengan diameter 100.000 tahun cahaya dan ketebalan 1000 tahun cahaya. Jarak antara matahari dan pusat galaksi diperkirakan 27.700 tahun cahaya. Di dalam galaksi bimasakti terdapat sistem Tata Surya, yang didalamnya terdapat planet Bumi tempat kita tinggal. Diduga di pusat galaksi bersemayam lubang hitam supermasif (black hole). Sagitarius A dianggap sebagai lokasi lubang hitam supermasif ini. Tata surya kita memerlukan waktu 225–250 juta tahun untuk menyelesaikan satu orbit, jadi telah

20–25 kali mengitari pusat galaksi dari sejak saat terbentuknya. Kecepatan orbit tata surya adalah 217 km/detik. Galaxy Milky Way terlihatnya sebagai pita kabut bercahaya putih yang membentang pada bola langit. Pita kabut atau “aura” cemerlang ini sebenarnya adalah kumpulan jutaan bintang dan juga sevolume besar debu dan gas yang terletak di piringan/bidang galaksi. Pita ini tampak paling terang di sekitar rasi Sagitarius, dan lokasi tersebut memang diyakini sebagai pusat galaksi. Tutorial ini difokuskan pada bagaimana kita bisa memotret Bima Sakti, serta dikombinasikan dengan lanskap . Mari kita lihat bagaimana kita bisa melakukan langkah demi langkah dengan bantuan Stellarium, yaitu sebuah aplikasi planetarium yang dapat diunduh secara gratis.
1. Buka stellarium , dan tentukan terlebih dahulu posisi dimana anda berada dengan cara klik “location window” Gambar 1

Huruf S , singkatan dari South (selatan), yang berarti milky way akan terlihat di daerah selatan dari tempat anda berada. 3. Inilah yg dinamakan milky way, anda bisa melihat saat ini dalam posisi berdiri tegak, pusat dari milky penuh dengan bintang-bintang dan area ini lebih terang ketimbang area lainnya.

Dari keterangan di atas kita dapatkan data : 1. Milky way mulai terlihat sekitar pukul 19:00:23 WIB 2. Milky way berdiri tegak di arah selatan, tepatnya di arah barat daya. Data tersebut yang akan kita jadikan acuan untuk mempersiapkan ke arah mana dan kapan kita akan memotret milky way. Yang perlu diperhatikan ketika memotret milky way adalah kita harus menghindari polusi cahaya, pergilah ke daerah pegunungan yang jauh dari polusi lampu-lampu kota, karena cahaya lampu membuat milky way terlihat redup. Selain itu kita juga harus memperhatikan kondisi awan, langit yang berawan membuat milky way terhalang dan tidak terlihat. Berikut pengaturan pada kamera untuk memotret milky way: 1. Gunakan diafragma terbesar pada lensa anda 2. Gunakan speed rendah sekitar 30 detik 3. Gunakan kabel rilis dan tripod yang kokoh untuk menghindari gambar menjadi blur. 4. Gunakan iso tinggi namun perhatikan batas kemampuan kamera anda terhadap noise

WORKSHOP:
A MAGIC OF LONG EXPOSURE PHOTOGRAPHY Naskah: Iron Af

eindahan alam Sulawesi Tenggara dengan langit biru, pesisir pantainya yang teduh dan hutan hujan tropis akan terasa indah bila disajikan dalam karya-karya long exposure photography, oleh karena itu Release Photography Kendari ( RPK ) bekerja sama dengan Siksa Kamera sebagai pelopor long exposure photography di Indonesia mengajak seluruh rekan-rekan fotografer untuk bersama-sama berkumpul dan berbagi ilmu dan menyajikanya dalam karyakarya fine art pada workshop ‘’A Magic of Long Exposure Photography’’. Event yang dilaksanakan pada tanggal 22 – 23 juni 2013 ini diikuti oleh 30 peserta yang sebagian besar berasal dari Kendari dan beberapa dari luar kota seperti Makassar dan sekitarnya. Hari pertama workshop dilaksanakan dipantai Lambeso Toronipa ditempuh selama 1 jam dari pusat kota Kendari dimana dalam workshop kali ini dibawakan langsung oleh founder Siksa Kamera - Haswa Wedhaswara dengan materi Creative Landscape dan materi Long Exposure Photography oleh Chaerul Umam serta praktek pengenalan long exposure

dari pagi hingga sore hari. Acara dilanjutkan hingga malam hari bertempat di Rock Cafe Kendari. Chaerul Umam berbagi tips dan trik dalam post processing. Di hari ke dua seluruh peserta, panitia dan pemateri menuju air terjun Moramo di Kabupaten Konawe Selatan dari kota Kendari (+ 60 KM ) ditempuh selama 1,5 jam perjalanan. Memasuki pintu gerbang kita akan menempuh jalan setapak sejauh 2 km hingga kepuncak, diperjalanan kita banyak menemui bentangan pohon-pohon hutan hujan tropis yang berusia ratusan tahun, ada pula air terjun kecil yang jernih dimana tidak terdapat batu-batu kerikil karena sedimentasi aliran sungainya dimana air mengalir pada batuan bauksit yang padat. Air terjun Moramo terdiri dari 7 tingkatan utama air terjunnya hingga ketinggian 100 meter dan terdapat 60 tingkatan kecil yang menjadi tempat penampungan sehingga spot ini sangat membius bagi para pecinta long exposure. Hunting hari kedua berakhir diteluk kendari sambil menikmati keindahan sunset dan bulan purnama.
WORKSHOP:
ONE MORE TIME IN LOMBOK
A
wal September 2013 Siksa Kamera kembali ke Kota Lombok mengelar event yang bertajuk One More Time in Lombok workshop and hunting di Senggigi. Acara ini sekaligus mengobati kerinduan rekan-rekan Siksa Kamera Mataram dan sekitarnya setelah sebelumnya sukses dengan acara Once Upon A Time in Lombok yang di gelar bersama Lombok Landscaper tahun lalu. Sebanyak 40 orang peserta hadir di acara ini, tidak hanya berasal dari Lombok tetapi ada juga peserta yang hadir dari Surabaya dan bahkan Banjarmasin. Materi workshop di bawakan oleh Imam Taufik Suryanegara, di awali dengan pemaparan tentang fine art photography yang di sertai dengan contoh-contoh foto menbawa peserta lebih dalam mengenal fine art photography dengan teknik long exposure. Dalam acara praktek Taufik membagi peserta menjadi beberapa group yang dari group ini di buat suatu kompetisi untuk membuat foto dengan konsep yang dipilih sendiri oleh peserta, pemenang dari kompetisi di berikan merchandise dari Siksa Kamera. Foto Gusti Made Ambara Jaya yang terpilih menjadi pemenang kompetisi yang diadakan dalam event One More Time in Lombok

WORKSHOP:
NEVER ENDING JOURNEY Naskah: Haswa Wedhaswara

anggal 21 September 2013 lalu Siksa Kamera mengadakan Workshop dan Hunting di Tuban, Jawa Timur. Event yang bertajuk Never Ending Journey ini merupakan rangkaian dari Workshop Siksa Kamera yang sebelumnya telah diadakan diberbagai kota di Indonesia. Diikuti oleh 20 peserta yang mayoritas berasal dari Tuban dan daerah-daerah sekitarnya termasuk Surabaya, Gresik, Lamongan dan Pati. Di gelar di kawasan Pantai Sowan yang teletak di Desa Bogorejo, Kecamatan Bancar, lebih kurang 35 KM arah barat dari pusat kota. Pantai Sowan merupakan salah satu ikon wisata di Tuban dengan keindahan pantai nya, dikelilingi hamparan hutan yang teduh membuat suasana hunting dan workshop menjadi lebih menarik.

Meski dengan kondisi seadanya, berbekal laptop dan diadakan di sebuah pendopo sederhana, rangkaian workshop berjalan dengan lancar. Acara dibuka oleh pemaparan Dedy Harifianto dalam sesi How to make long exposure photography – teknik dan tips, di mulai dengan menjelaskan teknik dasar long exposure dan penggunaan peralatan dalam memotret long exposure. Peserta diajak turun langsung kelapangan untuk mempraktekkan materi yang telah didapat dengan bimbingan dan arahan yang intens. Setelah jeda acara dilanjutkan dengan pemaparan How To Improve Long Exposure Photography oleh Imam Taufik Suryanegara. Beliau berbagi tips dan trik dalam post-process dengan editing sesimple mungkin dengan hasil yang maksimal.

Biasanya tempai ini selalu ramai saat pagi hari. Selain tempat bermain selancar, banyak fotografer yang turut mengabadikan keindahan tempat ini. Tidal (rock poll) ini termasuk spot favorit bagi pencinta landscape terutama long exposure . Memakan waktu lebih kurang 1 jam dari tempat saya tinggal menuju lokasi ini. Diambil dengan kamera dSLR lalu dikonversi menjadi foto hitam putih dengan Adobe Photoshop CS4 dengan pengaturan brightness dan contras ditambah burning dan dodging pada area tertentu. Saya suka dengan foto hitam putih, bagi saya foto hitam putih lebih “berbicara� dan dapat membuat saya lebih betah memandanginya.
