Annual Report 2016

Dear Silverdale Baptist Academy Family and Friends, I am pleased to present the 2015-2016 Annual Report. We are grateful for what this report represents; a generous and involved community of members of Silverdale Baptist Church, Silverdale Baptist Academy parents, grandparents, students, alumni, faculty, staff, past and present board members, and friends. You are valued and we thank you for supporting and believing in the mission of Silverdale Baptist Academy. Our mission remains one of “providing an environment of academic excellence with a Biblical worldview, which is conducive to developing educated young people of character, while preparing them to represent our Lord Jesus Christ in all walks of life.” The 2015-2016 year was again a year highlighted by joyful learning, exciting discovery, unbridled creativity among our students and faculty, and growth. I know you will be as blessed as I have been by the evidences of the faithfulness of God as you read this year’s Annual Report. Exciting things are in store for the Silverdale community in the upcoming year. We plan to launch our Outdoor Education Experiential Learning initiative and our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) initiative in August of 2016, both of which you can read about in this letter or later on in this report. Our Outdoor Education initiative is based on the motto, “No Child Left Inside.” Our model will include an enhancement of the appreciation of God’s bountiful Earth. Included will be school gardens, schoolyard greening, plant identification, water quality, animal identification, survival skills and much more. We believe there will be vast benefits to the student with this initiative, with some of the greatest benefits being an increase in balance, agility, dexterity, and creativity. Thank you again for your support of the community of Silverdale Baptist Academy. To God be the glory for all the great things He has done. Blessings,

Becky Hansard

Forging New Paths In

STEAM EDUCATION All across the country, schools are offering the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) initiative for their students. We plan to implement this program for our students at Silverdale next year; however, we plan to add Art to our program as well, making it the STEAM program. Silverdale provides for a strong program in the literary and visual arts, and the study of the master artists already, so we felt it essential to include the arts in this intensive initiative. Silverdale believes a robust understanding of the STEAM initiative will prove invaluable to students throughout their educational journeys and future careers. In the elementary and middle school STEAM lab, students will have opportunities to increase their levels of creativity, critical thinking, innovation and real-world problem solving, benefiting from hands-on learning that will engage them on multiple levels. In the high school, we consider the implementation of the STEAM track to be an exciting venture filled with vast opportunities for teacher professional development and student experimentation. The curriculum that will be used is collaboratively developed and updated by subject matter experts, including teachers, university professors, engineering professionals, and curriculum designers. We look forward to seeing where new initiatives like STEAM will take our students!
