Hungarian Museum of Architecture and the Foto-Muzeum_Competition_Internship in Contacto Atlantico_2014 This building complex is designed to be placed in Hungary, in the City Park, one of the oldest parks of Budapest, it’s consisted of two separate buildings: the Hungarian Museum of Architecture and the FotoMuzeum. The project's concept aims to create a tight relationship between the buildings and the context, particularly with the «Rondo» and the monument of 1956 in the centre. As the diagrams show, the concept was developed using the centre of the Rondo, in order to emphasize the idea of the centrality of the Monument. The two buildings are characterized by an alternation of empty and full spaces to obtain visual axis from the back of the buildings to the central monument: the middle spaces are designed to be completely transparent. The architectural language and the shape is the same for both the museums because the Rondo with the circular shape recalls the classical architecture, the simmetry and the proportions among parts of the buildings. In the construction area of the Foto Museum, due to the presence of trees to be preserved, the building'shape is adapted and part of the volume is cut, therefore the museum not only respects the programe of the competition but is also perfectly inserted in the context. In the back area the museums have green spaces, conceived as pedestrian axis to connect the main street with the park.

The project aims to design sustainable architecture, therefore both buildings were designed with simple and compact shapes, with 3 floors of height, to reduce the surface area. The volumetric heat transfer coefficient (A/V) is under the requested value 0.30. The museums present an alternation of filled and empty spaces. This alternation corresponds to different functions: the filled spaces host exhibitions area, offices, storage rooms and services; instead the empty spaces are designed to be area of transition and welcome, in fact they correspond to the entrance hall (ticketing, etc) and pedestrian area. The empty spaces are completely glazed and the filled spaces are covered with fiber cement (with a stone pattern) and brise soleil in wood. Section BB. Scale 1:400
