T
he touch of a hand during hands-on healing treatment can do one of three things: export energy from the therapist, import energy or information from the recipient, or both. It is one thing to have treatment when the therapist is merely following an impersonalized and routine protocol designed for the generic client—the therapist starts at the head, travels to the feet, and never notices any of your individualized pain and sensitivities. It is quite another thing to have a healer lay hands on you. A healer’s hands listen to the energy your body is communicating. They feel your pain—not empathetically, but physically feel your pain—through touch. Their hands then migrate toward your pain to help you release it and let your body heal itself. This is what a true healer does, and it is what I experienced at Midwest Myofascial Release Center.

and effective hands-on approach which involves applying gentle, sustained pressure into the myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion.

With myofascial release, one is looked at as a unique individual. One-on-one sessions are personalized, incorporating a wide range of therapeutic massage and movement techniques designed to restore healthy function. “Myo” refers to muscle and “fascia” is the connective tissue surrounding each muscle, like a three-dimensional spider web. The fascia is the only part of the body that goes
everywhere. Nerves end. Muscles end. But fascia exists everywhere in the body. From a layman’s perspective, it is called myofascial release because physical and/or emotional pain and trauma can become trapped in the body in our fascia. We then carry that pain with us. This unique therapy helps find that energy trapped in the fascia and release it, thus creating the opportunity for our bodies to restore themselves to health. We then have the freedom to live in a painfree body that is able to function at its optimal level of health and well-being.
