UNTRADITIONAL WEDDING TRENDS REFLECT THE CHANGING TIMES

Article by LeAnne N. Roberts

The shifts in wedding fashion, ceremonies and receptions has shifted dramatically in the last ten years. Wedding trends that break tradition have become the norm, as couples seek to break away from traditional wedding customs and create a more unique and personalized experience for themselves and their guests. Here are a few examples of untraditional wedding trends:

Instead of getting married in a church or traditional wedding venue, couples are opting for more unconventional spaces like museums, art galleries, or even on a boat or in a treehouse.

Many couples are choosing to forgo traditional wedding attire, such as a white wedding dress or black tuxedo, and instead opting for more colorful and unique outfits that reflect their personal style. TikTok star, Trisha Paytas got married in a Black sparkly gown, as seen below. Also, African weddings have been at the top of the wedding trends when it comes to incorporating their culture. Non-traditional wedding parties are starting to reflect the cultural shift in gender norms. Instead of having a traditional bridal party, some couples are opting for mixed-gender wedding parties, or even choosing to forgo a wedding party altogether.

With an increasing focus on sustainability and the environment, couples are opting for ecofriendly weddings that incorporate sustainable and recycled materials, and minimize waste. This is in line with another trend of couples deciding to incorporate technology into their wedding, with things like online invitations, live-streaming the ceremony, or using social media to share photos and updates with guests.

Cutting costs has also led some couples to do away with the traditional sit-down meal and open bar, opting for more unique food and drink options like food trucks, interactive food stations, and signature cocktails. While there are several ways to have a wedding, people aren’t interested in spending the same amount as a down payment on their weddings.
