e c’è un simbolo dell’estate, a Forte dei Marmi, non può che essere quello dei fuochi d’artificio di Sant’Ermete. Tutti in spiaggia – fortemarmini e villeggianti, grandi e piccini – naso all’insù, sognando a occhi aperti. E a ogni lampo di luce un tuffo al cuore. A ogni botto, immagini che riaffiorano: di altre vacanze, altre avventure, altri giorni spensierati al mare, altre serate così, sulla battigia, ad assaporare il momento più trepidante dell’estate. Dopo due anni di stop e di forzata rinuncia, la festa del santo patrono torna nel segno della tradizione. Appuntamento a fine agosto con i tre canonici giorni di celebrazioni tra sacro e mondano. Si inizia venerdì 26 alle 21:30 con il corteo per l’ostensione della reliquia del Santo. Dal municipio alla chiesa parrocchiale attraversando tutto il centro: il clero in testa, le autorità cittadine, la banda, i gruppi in costume storico chiamati a raccolta da molte parti della Toscana. La sera successiva (sabato 27 alle 21:30) la Focata in piazza Garibaldi, il grande falò che brucia idealmente le cose brutte e i pensieri cattivi. E a seguire la tombola (ore 22:30), momento di giocosa semplicità nella piazza del paese. Il gran finale è domenica 28 con la colorata fiera di Sant’Ermete, le quasi quattrocento bancarelle e la colorata folla che riempie le piazze e le strade cittadine. Fino alle 22, ora fissata per lo spettacolo pirotecnico dal pontile. Per chiudere la festa, celebrare la bella stagione e rinnovare la promessa di tornare al Forte anche l’anno prossimo. f there’s one thing truly emblematic of summer in Forte dei Marmi, it’s the Sant’Ermete fireworks, which draw locals and holidaymakers of all ages to the beach, eyes trained on the sky, for a spectacle that sees the heart quicken with each flash of light. Every firework recalls other holidays, other adventures, other carefree days by the sea; other evenings by the water’s edge, savouring the highlight of the summer. After a two-year break, the tradition local patron saint’s festival is back with a bang, and awaits visitors with the usual three days of religious celebrations and entertainment, starting on Friday 26 at 9:30 p.m., when the relic of the Saint is paraded through the streets. The parade moves from the town hall right through the centre of Forte dei Marmi to the parish church, with the clergy leading the way, followed by the authorities, the band and groups in historical costume that gather here from all over Tuscany. The following evening (Saturday 27, at 9:30 p.m.) sees the Focata in Piazza Garibaldi: a large bonfire that metaphorically sees unpleasant events and thoughts go up in flames. This is followed by the traditional fun of the tombola in the square, at 10:30 p.m.. The gran finale is on Sunday 28, with the colourful Sant’Ermete fair, during which almost 400 stalls and cheerful crowds fill the squares and streets of the town until 10:00 p.m., before the firework display from the pier brings the summer celebrations to a close once more, with a promise to return to Forte dei Marmi again next year: to the same sea and the same beach, as the song goes.

L’UNIVERSO DI FATTORI

na selezionata antologia di circa cinquanta opere per testimoniare – e dare la giusta misura – della grandezza di un artista senza limiti: Giovanni Fattori, padre dei Macchiaioli. Prodotta da Società di Belle Arti con il patrocinio del Comune di Forte dei Marmi e la collaborazione di Villa Bertelli, la mostra “L’universo di Fattori” riporta in Versilia le opere del maestro livornese a distanza di circa vent’anni dall’ultima esposizione. Nel succedersi delle varie sezioni tematiche il visitatore assiste all’affascinante mutazione della forma e della tecnica pittorica dell’artista, dalle prime ricerche di macchia applicate alla documentazione degli eventi bellici italiani, ai magistrali ritratti dell’anima in cui la sensibilità introspettiva si

combina con il marcato realismo di stampo toscano, dagli studi di paesaggio dell’aurea stagione di Castiglioncello alle incantate impressioni nelle quali la luce diviene uno strumento per plasmare la realtà. E ancora: la narrazione attenta e non priva di nostalgia delle trasformazioni del tessuto urbano fiorentino; la serie di ritratti di amici e parenti che, come testimoni diretti di brani di vita del pittore, disvelano gli aspetti più intimi e lo strato sociale del suo mondo. Il catalogo della mostra è a cura di Claudia Fulgheri, Elisabetta Matteucci e Francesca Panconi, studiose e profonde conoscitrici della vasta produzione fattoriana. L’edizione è arricchita da un nutrito apparato iconografico che documenta la figura di Fattori come uomo e come artista.

selected anthology of some 50 works, chosen to illustrate the immense talent of an artist with no limits: Giovanni Fattori, one of the leading lights of the Macchiaioli group. Produced by Società di Belle Arti, with the patronage of the Municipal Council of Forte dei Marmi and the collaboration of Villa Bertelli, “L’universo di Fattori” brings the works of the Livorno artist back to Versilia twenty years on from the previous exhibition. As they move through the various sections, visitors can observe the fascinating shifts in the form and technique of Fattori’s painting: from the early exploration of the macchia technique employed to illustrate wartime events in Italy to the masterful ritratti dell’anima, in which introspective sensibility blends with the marked Tuscan-style realism, as well as the landscape studies of the golden season in Castiglioncello, and the enchanted impressions in which light becomes a tool used to shape reality. All this is accompanied by the careful, rather wistful account of the transformations undergone by the urban fabric of Florence, and a series of portraits of friends and relatives, direct witnesses to spells of the artist’s life able to reveal its most intimate aspects and the social stratum that made up Fattori’s world. The exhibition catalogue is by Claudia Fulgheri, Elisabetta Matteucci and Francesca Panconi, academics with a profound knowledge of Fattori’s vast range of works, and is enriched with an abundance of images illustrating the figure of Fattori as both man and artist. Signorini, la forma Signorini, the shape of lightness della leggerezza a star assoluta della mostra è Arcturus, un cavallo volante di ben dieci metri. Energia fluida, eleganza e vitalità in bronzo, un seducente nuovo landmark per il lungomare di Forte dei Marmi. “Attraverso”, la personale di Antonio Signorini, a cura di Luca Beatrice, traccia un suggestivo itinerario d’arte che tocca alcuni dei luoghi più rappresentativi della città: il viale a mare, appunto, la passeggiata pedonale di via Carducci, la piazza del Fortino, il Pontile. Cavalli volanti, danzatrici, guerrieri: figure sottili e ieratiche che fanno riemergere stilemi di antiche civiltà, proiettati dall’artista nell’oggi e verso il futuro. Una mostra tutta da godere, che rappresenta per Signorini il periodo di piena maturazione formale. new landmark for the Forte dei Marmi waterfront. “Attraverso” (“Through”), a solo exhibition of the works of Antonio Signorini, curated by Luca Beatrice, traces an evocative artistic path through some of the most iconic landmarks in the city: the waterfront, the pedestrian promenade of Via Carducci, Piazza del Fortino, and the Pier. Dancers, warriors, and flying horses: subtle, hieratic figures that echo the art of ancient civilizations, launched into the present and future by the artist. This delightful exhibition shows Signorini at the height of his powers as a complete, formally mature artist. The exhibition is organised by Forte dei Marmi Municipal Council and the Oblong Contemporary Art Gallery, in cooperation with Villa Bertelli. Joining the five monumental sculptures displayed outdoors are four other notable sculptures and a significant collection of works on canvas, on display at the Oblong gallery in Via Carducci.

asseggiando per le vie dello shopping non possiamo fare a meno di notare quell’autentico colosso che da qualche settimana si staglia sulla rossa facciata del Fortino. Cosa rappresenta? Perché poggia con forza le sue mani sul monumento simbolo della città? Emanuele Giannelli, l’autore di Mr. Arbitrium (così si chiama il titano) ci lascia piena libertà di immaginare, riflettere e darci una risposta. Il gigante sta forse cercando di abbattere l’antico monumento? Per lui, tutto proiettato verso il domani, è ormai un inutile orpello, un peso? Oppure, al contrario, lo sta sorreggendo e rafforzando, perché è proprio sulla tradizione, sulla storia, sulle vestigia del passato che il futuro ha le sue solide basi? Nessuna indicazione da parte dell’artista: sta a noi interpretare e dare un significato all’opera. Per Giannelli è un gradito ritorno dopo la bella mostra del 2018 dal titolo “Altro come possibilità”, allestita proprio al Fortino. Una nuova possibilità anche per i suoi estimatori – e in generale per tutto il pubblico – di misurarsi con la sua originale arte, sempre di forte impatto emotivo e stimolante, tanto sul piano estetico quanto sotto il profilo concettuale.

or a few weeks now, visitors strolling through the town’s shopping streets will undoubtedly have noticed an authentic giant standing out against the red façade of the Fortino. What does it represent? Why is it pushing its hands against the monument that’s the emblem of Forte dei Marmi? Emanuele Giannelli, who sculpted Mr. Arbitrium (that’s the titan’s name), offers the observer complete freedom to imagine, reflect, and come up with an answer. Perhaps the giant is trying to bring the age-old monument to the ground. Perhaps his eye is so closely focused on the future that he sees it as an embellishment devoid of purpose standing in his way… Or perhaps it’s the very opposite, and he’s attempting to support it and strengthen it, because only tradition, history and the traces of the past can form a solid foundation for the future? The artist offers no indications, and it’s up to us to give our own meaning to the work. For Giannelli, this is a welcome return to the Fortino, after the fine exhibition entitled “Altro come possibilità” (Other as a possibility), hosted here in 2018, offering his admirers and indeed the public in general the opportunity to engage with his original art.

Eugenio Pieraccini a cento anni dalla nascita centenary of the birth of Eugenio Pieraccini

la moda italiana ha fatto BOOM! when Italian fashion went BOOM!

ra i pionieri della moda italiana c’è un personaggio che non viene mai ricordato abbastanza: Giovan Battista Giorgini. Non fu uno stilista, ma un imprenditore: il primo a credere nel grande potenziale delle creazioni italiane e a promuoverle nel mondo. Fu lui, il 12 febbraio 1951, ad organizzare la prima sfilata della moda italiana a Villa Torrigiani a Firenze e, l’anno successivo, a chiamare a raccolta i buyer internazionali nella famosa Sala Bianca di Palazzo Pitti per lanciare gli stilisti del Belpaese. Una figura di altissima caratura che Forte dei Marmi celebra (Giorgini era nato proprio al Forte) con la mostra “BOOM! La moda italiana”, dal 6 al 28 agosto a Villa Bertelli. «La rassegna si basa su alcuni masterpiece di quegli anni», spiega Sabrina Mattei, ideatrice e curatrice del progetto e della mostra per la Fondazione Banca del Monte di Lucca «realizzati da Schubert, Ferragamo, Gucci, tra gli altri, e sulla restituzione che la nascente alta moda ebbe sulla provincia italiana. Un punto di vista originale che ha aperto collezioni pubbliche e private, non solo toscane e fiorentine ma anche del nord e sud Italia». In mostra anche gli scatti del grande fotografo di moda Mario Semprini e, tra le molte curiosità, la Barbie originale del 1959, omaggio alle donne americane che furono tra le prime ad apprezzare il Made in Italy. Una sala con arredi vintage è dedicata alla proiezione di filmati d’epoca provenienti da Istituto Luce e Teche Rai.

mong the pioneers of Italian fashion, one is too often overlooked: Giovan Battista Giorgini. He was not a designer, but an entrepreneur, the first to believe in the immense potential of Italian style and to promote it worldwide. He organised the first Italian fashion show at Villa Torrigiani in Florence on 12 February 1951, and the following year he invited a gathering of international buyers to the famous Sala Bianca in Palazzo Pitti to launch the designers of the bel paese. Forte dei Marmi now celebrates Giorgini, who was born here, with the exhibition “BOOM! La moda italiana” (“Boom! Italian Fashion”), from 6 to 28 August at Villa Bertelli. Sabrina Mattei, who devised and curated the project and the exhibition for Fondazione Banca del Monte di Lucca, explains that “the exhibition is based on several masterpieces of the era, designed by Schubert, Ferragamo and Gucci, among others, and on the effect the rise of haute couture had on provincial Italy. This original point of view has opened up public and private collections.” Also on display are pictures by the great fashion photographer Mario Semprini and, among other curiosities, the original Barbie doll from 1959: a tribute to the American women who were among the first to appreciate Italian-made clothing. A room with vintage furniture is dedicated to the screening of some films from the era by Istituto Luce and Teche Rai.

rtist, gallery owner, catalyst and soul of Versilia’s cultural life during the golden age of the 1960s and ‘70s. Eugenio Pieraccini, who was all those things and more, was born in Viareggio in 1922 and died prematurely in 1980 on the feast day of Sant’Ermete, patron saint of Forte dei Marmi. His was the first art gallery in Forte dei Marmi, opened in 1948 at the Capannina di Franceschi with none other than Giancarlo Fusco. In 1952, he won the first edition of the Lorenzo Viani National Painting Prize, awarded by a jury led by Professor Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti. The 1963 idea for the Marguttiana art festival in Via Pascoli was also his, a project that continues successfully to this day. As a gallery owner, Pieraccini championed artists such as Giuseppe Migneco and Salvatore Fiume, virtually unknown at the time. With the support of artisan-sculptor Sem Ghelardini, he organised major summer exhibitions in his seaside resort - the Tai in Vittoria Apuana - presenting works by Moore, Cascella, Giò Pomodoro, Adami and Lapointe. As a painter, he achieved recognition both in Italy and abroad. His boundless passion for art also drove him towards an intense sense of social responsibility, culminating in the organisation of a memorable charity auction in the late 1970s, which yielded one million lire - an exorbitant sum for the time - in support of AIRC, the Italian Foundation for Cancer Research. rtista, gallerista, catalizzatore e anima della vita culturale versiliese nella felice stagione degli anni Sessanta e Settanta. Eugenio Pieraccini, viareggino classe 1922, scomparso a soli 58 anni il giorno di Sant’Ermete del 1980, fu tutto questo e anche di più. Sua la prima galleria d’arte di Forte dei Marmi, aperta nel 1948 alla Capannina di Franceschi assieme a un personaggio del calibro di Giancarlo Fusco. Sua la primogenitura, nel 1952, del Premio nazionale di pittura dedicato a Lorenzo Viani, con il professor Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti presidente di giuria. Sua l’idea della Marguttiana di via Pascoli (nel ‘63), rassegna che prosegue con successo tutt’oggi. Come gallerista Pieraccini promosse artisti quali Giuseppe Migneco e Salvatore Fiume, allora pressoché sconosciuti. Con il supporto dell’artigiano-scultore Sem Ghelardini organizzò importanti rassegne estive nel piazzale del suo stabilimento balneare – il Tai di Vittoria Apuana – presentando opere di Moore, Cascella, Giò Pomodoro, Adami, Lapointe. Come pittore ottenne riconoscimenti in Italia e all’estero. E la sua smisurata passione per l’arte lo spinse anche verso un intenso impegno sociale, culminato con l’organizzazione della memorabile asta benefica che a fine anni Settanta fruttò un milione di lire – cifra esorbitante per l’epoca – a favore dell’AIRC e nella quale riuscì a coinvolgere grandi personaggi della TV come l’amico Romano Battaglia, Delia Scala, Sandra Mondaini, Raimondo Vianello.

EXHIBITIONS

Dal 6 al 28 agosto Villa Bertelli propone l’imperdibile mostra “BOOM! La moda italiana” (se ne parla diffusamente a pag. 6), mentre a settembre ospita pressoché in contemporanea due diverse esposizioni: dal 4 al 30 settembre, al primo piano, la rassegna “Neko Project”, una serie di scatti di fotografi giapponesi che hanno come soggetto il gatto; dal 3 al 30 settembre, al secondo piano, “Studio Simi (1881/1987), un omaggio a Nerina. La sua eredità fra Versilia e Firenze e nel mondo”.

l silenzio del primo mattino. La luce dorata che precede il sorgere del sole. Una melodia che ascende al cielo. Il Concerto all’Alba nel giorno di Ferragosto è diventato in pochi anni uno degli eventi più attesi e apprezzati dell’estate fortemarmina. Al termine, colazione offerta a tutti i presenti dall’Associazione dei Pescatori del Pontile. Confermato anche l’appuntamento con “Ciao Estate”, a fine settembre e sempre al Pontile. Una serata conviviale promossa dal Comune in collaborazione con la Compagnia della Vela, la Croce Verde e la banda cittadina “La Marinara” e con la partecipazione di altre associazioni e realtà del territorio per un “arrivederci” alla bella stagione.

arrivano dell’ lla Capannina di Franceschi sabato 17 settembre alle 18:00 va in scena la cinquantesima edizione del Premio Satira Politica. Mezzo secolo di storia per una manifestazione unica in Italia, da sempre occasione per lanciare uno sguardo sul mondo della satira internazionale. Attese al Forte molte star dell’umorismo – comici, attori, conduttori, autori e disegnatori – come lo scorso anno, a titolo d’esempio, la newyorkese Fran Lebowitz (premio alla carriera) o le italianissime Emanuela Fanelli, Brenda Lodigiani e Josephine Yole Signorelli. Per conoscere i nomi dei premiati del 2022 bisognerà attendere però il giorno stesso della cerimonia in Capannina, in virtù della consolidata prassi della giuria di mantenere fino all’ultimo il più stretto riserbo sui vincitori.

Half a century of history for a unique event in Italy that never fails to offer a look at the international satire scene. The town will be welcoming many big names in humour, including comedians, actors, presenters, authors and cartoonists. Last year, for example, they included New Yorker Fran Lebowitz (who won a lifetime achievement award). The winners of the 2022 edition will be announced during the award ceremony held in the Capannina, until which the names will be kept, as usual, in the utmost secrecy by the members of the jury.

dizione numero trenta per il Palio dei Bagni, la regata che ogni estate impegna i bagnini degli stabilimenti balneari di Forte dei Marmi in un’appassionante sfida all’ultimo colpo di remo. Solo i più abili e i più veloci nel condurre le loro imbarcazioni (i tipici pattini utilizzati anche per il soccorso in mare) possono ambire al titolo di campioni. Non soltanto una competizione sportiva, il Palio, ma anche una genuina espressione della cultura e della tradizione balneare italiana. Una manifestazione che coinvolge ogni anno un numero crescente di persone. Il Palio dei Bagni 2022 si tiene martedì 9 agosto con partenza dal bagno Apuana e arrivo al Pontile. Il pubblico può seguire la gara dalla riva oppure attendere gli equipaggi nel decisivo tratto finale.

e migliori promesse del ciclismo internazionale saranno ancora una volta ai nastri di partenza del Trofeo Buffoni, giunto alla 53ma edizione e in programma domenica 11 settembre. La gara, organizzata in collaborazione con il Comune di Forte dei Marmi, vedrà la partecipazione di oltre 150 ciclisti categoria juniores da tutta Europa. Il circuito stradale si svilupperà fra la Versilia e il territorio di Montignoso. Appuntamento alle 13:30 in piazza Garibaldi a Forte dei Marmi per il raduno degli atleti prima del via al Cinquale.

he top up-and-coming international cyclists will once again be at the starting line for the Buffoni Trophy, the 53rd edition of which is set for Sunday 11 September. Organised in collaboration with Forte dei Marmi Municipal Council, the race will see the participation of over 150 junior cyclists from all over Europe. The circuit will run along roads in the Versilia and Montignoso areas. The athletes will be gathering at 1:30 p.m. in Piazza Garibaldi in Forte dei Marmi, before the race sets out from Il Cinquale.

his summer sees the 30th edition of the Palio dei Bagni, in which the lifeguards of Forte dei Marmi’s bathing establishments take on each other in a thrilling rowing race. Only the fastest and most able aboard the typical pattini (a pedalo with oars also used for rescues at sea) will have the chance to take home the title. The Palio is more than just a sports event: it’s an authentic expression of the Italian seaside culture and tradition that each year involves a growing number of people. The Palio dei Bagni 2022 will be held on Tuesday 9 August, starting out from the Apuana bathing establishment, with the finishing line at the Pier. Spectators can watch the race from the shore, or wait for the crews at the decisive final stretch.

L’edizione 2022 coinvolgerà ancora una volta Forte dei Marmi e Marina di Pietrasanta per raccogliere fondi da destinare alla costruzione di un pronto soccorso sanitario a Medjugorje e, in Italia, alle famiglie in difficoltà economica a causa della pandemia e della crisi ucraina. Tantissimi i big della canzone e del mondo dello spettacolo che hanno aderito all’appello e che interverranno alle iniziative in programma: il torneo di paddle al Tennis Club Italia e il Gran Galà del Cuore al Twiga Beach Club di lunedì 22 agosto; il gran Concerto a Villa Bertelli e il successivo Gran Galà al Bagno Alpemare la sera di martedì 23 agosto.
