ROPE COMPOSITION Rope is a group of yarns, plies, fibers or strands that are twisted or braided together into a larger and stronger form. Rope may be constructed of any long, stringy, fibrous material, but generally is constructed of certain natural or synthetic fibres. Common natural fibres for rope are manila hemp, hemp, linen, cotton, coir, jute, straw, and sisal. There are many designs for weaving a rope. Clusters of individual fibers form the strands. Several strands are woven in a pattern to form the rope. And, these ropes themselves can be used as strands and woven to make even larger ropes The twist of the strands in a twisted or braided rope serves not only to keep a rope together, but enables the rope to more evenly distribute tension among the individual strands. Without any twist in the rope, the shortest strands would always be supporting a much higher proportion of the total load. Different types of rope include, fiber rope, laid/twisted rope, baided rope, plaited rope and endless winding rope.

APPLICATION Rope has a diverse applications in industry. In former times, fibre ropes were commonly used in suspension bridges for foot traffic. Today rope is used in seafaring or commercial marine, mining, sports, theatre and rock climbing.

EXPERIENCE I have used twisted fiber rope to construct my word. When twisted the rope has hard to cut but once the strands are pulled apart it became easier. It was easy to manipulate the rope into other twists and braids once it was pulled apart. For my word i used a combination of twisted and braided shapes. I also held the rope together by tying knots and using single strands to hold the bigger sizes of rope. Sinqobile Dakile Industrial & Interior Masters 1 Florence Design Academy
