Cultural Ceremony: Crowning of isilo The chair is inspired by the coronation/crowing ceremony of the Zulu Chief/King. The current reigning Isilo (King) of the Zulu’s in South Africa is Goodwill Zwelithini. He became king on the death of his father, King Cyprian Bhekuzulu kaSolomon. After his 21st birthday and first marriage, King Zwelithini was installed as the eighth monarch of the Zulus at a traditional ceremony on 3rd December 1971, attended by 20,000 people. Every year the anniversary of his coronation is celebrated.
