Expert in building personal capacity with a can-do mindset

If Rana DeBoer looks familiar to you it is probably because you have attended a session she hosted or a conference where she was a speaker. You may also recognize her for the critical role she played in shaping the employee culture in the City of Sioux Falls. No matter what platform you recognize her from you are likely to leave inspired by the positive go-getter attitude she brings to every engagement she is invited to.

Rana firmly believes in YOU creating your future by carving out your own path. She leads by example having navigated from the corporate world to the public sector and now as a full-time entrepreneur. As Rana would say, “My line to success has not been linear, it’s been a super-squiggly line – I wasn’t just given what I have achieved, I pursued it.” For Rana, the pursuit of her career started in college at SDSU being a full-time student-athlete. “Being part of a team, managing grades, and keeping good energy to compete at a high level. Those powerful aspects of athletics gave me skills and the leaders’ mindset to be successful after college.”

Rana considers herself a performance junkie, she loves to help people win in life and business. To maintain her high level of output she consistently builds capacity from within to perform. “Capacity is king,” says

Rana. "One defining characteristic of successful people is their drive to grow in knowledge, character, and learning to do new things. By doing this they build their personal capacity giving them the ability to do things they weren’t capable of before or handle situations that they previously couldn’t. When you have greater personal capacity, you can challenge and teach your team to do the same which will have a net positive effect on your business and ultimately the community. That is SO powerful. It starts with YOU!"

Living on a small acreage outside of Tea, Rana builds her capacity by spending time outdoors with her family and being active in hiking, fishing, hunting, or gardening. She is also addicted to fitness. “The physical and mental benefits of movement are incredible, and it’s something that every individual simply must make a habit,” shares Rana. “For me, it’s through a run or spin class or hot yoga challenge that I am able to let the tension go and find clarity.” Rana uses exercise to step away from all the “noise” to re-center and focus on what matters most. “And that’s my family,” says Rana. “Making sure I am providing for my family, holistically. I’m not always the best, but I try to bring strength, resilience, fun, and a lot of love! We work hard, together, to keep each other going and enjoying the opportunities life provides.” As a wife, mother, community leader and entrepreneur Rana balances the extremes of leadership by being confident yet humble; focused and flexible; optimistic and realistic; empowering and controlling, urgent and patient; frugal and abundant. It’s all about a balanced focus.

Rana recommends that everyone find their pursuit. In business, she continues to be a results-oriented leader with a long-time colleague who shares her passion for building strong workplace cultures, VOLT Strategy. If you don’t recognize her yet, you will have plenty of opportunities to meet through her professional and community engagements. n
