WORLD WAR II

In a narrower sense, HafenCity Hamburg is a project of urban regeneration where the "Grosser Grasbrook" area of the former Hamburg free port is being revitalised with new hotels, shops, office buildings, and residential areas. The project is considered the largest urban redevelopment project in Europe by landmass (approximately 2.2 square kilometres). With the decreased economic importance of free ports in an era of European Union free trade, large container ships, and increased border security, the Hamburg free port was reduced in size, relieving the current HafenCity area from its restrictions.

ARCHITECTURAL MODEL OF HAFEN GALLERY

Due to the shape characteristics of the Hafen Gallery, the internal space is highly oriented, and the pedestrian flow line has been determined at the beginning of the design. This space can make the artists' works have a story. When people enter the gallery from the entrance, they see two walls full of art works. As visitors moved forward, art works begin to slowly enter their sight, in this process, visitors interpret the stories that artists want to tell according to the viewing order of art works. This process is subtle, different arrangements of art works tell different stories. Artists can arrange according to the creation time of their own art works, or through the content they want to express. The arrangement of each art works determines the order in which the art works are viewed by visitors The entrance of the Hafen Gallery is narrow, people will feel that it is an endless corridor when they enter this space. The Hafen Gallery was lined with artists' art works, as people move forward, the distance between the walls on both sides begins to increase. The subtle changes in space make visitors look forward to the front, as if the space in front has unlimited possibilities. At the end of the Hafen Gallery, there is a three meter high platform where people can see the landscape of Norderelbe River, which is the direction of HafenCity sunset point. In a specific time, people can enjoy the sunset here. In fact, the viewing platform of the whole Hafen Gallery is oriented towards the sunset point of HafenCity, which can accommodate a large number of visitors to enjoy the scene.
