JAPO Motorsport GmbH Nissan GTR34 The Production Run: 20
When Nissan announced they were axing the GTR34 in 1999 many people cried as if they had a bad cramp in their left thigh. Built as an icon, the 34 represented; so much so that JAPO decided to do a one up on the Z-Tune and rebuild 20 GTRs from scratch to better than standards. Each taking about 7 months from total srap down to come up the JAPO GTR is nothing short of a moving orgas-ma-tron. Toting around a 520 horsepower eiffle tower and 440 lb*tq bulge in the pantalon the JAPO GTR definately lays it on thick and brings the juices down. Prepared to sodomized bodies like a ring worm in the testes; this 34 has power from a revamped RB26DETT that sees (2) HKS GT RS turbo-chargers dropping on 22psi boost; 4 inches of exhaust, upgraded intercooler, racing suction and chamber kit, bigger injectors, HKS ignition plugs and HKS cylinder head gasket - that’s just to name a few mods. An HKS Fcon Pro brings in everything nicley together with HKS clutch kit and HKS Hiper Max coilovers. JAPO Motorsport treated the switch box as well as the rear axle differential with additional coolers by ARC for optimised longevity. Snapping neck with forward motion is Stoptech brakes with 4 pistion 355/35 millimetre discs in front and two-piston 355/32 millimetre discs in the rear. There is more but all that you need to know is that aside from the Z tune this JAPO 34 is indeed a meal to be squared with and with just 20 like we said, you’ll faster ketch malaria in your big toe than own, much less see one of these.
1988-1992 Mazda 626
We got : a 1.8 with less than 80 HP, a greedy carb engine and a tempermental transmission. Saving grace was power windows, ac and the big thing at that time ocillating vents that moved side to side.
THEY GOT: the mx6 GT and in (2) door trim this car decimated all. Movin’ hard on a USDM 2.2 boosted engine with 145HP and 190lb*tq or the JDM equipped FE3, which was 170HP/ 160lb*tq the foreign version definately delivered aloes harder than a tonka bean tree in sapatay mud. The USDM version came with an electronically adjustable suspenion with 3 modes including sport, the strongest gearbox mazda ever made with LSD, bigger rotors both front and back, upgraded sway bars and more.

Come in car with dirty shoes: Oh Goooord, I don’t know what you mash out there, a least hit the shoes a little two tap and a dust off before you sit down. It might have floor mats, but think of that as being there for style; know how much work it is to clean floor mats.
Putting foot up on dashboard: What part of dashboard mark footrest so you could kick up and relax. Could be wife, girlfriend, mother - hell the Queen herself, keep your foot on the ground. What kinda brought-up-see is that!

Rukshun took place in Grand Baazar when car fans and performance enthusiasts consumed the black tarmac at the GB Gazebo to meet, greet and let it all heng out. When diehards of the automotive performance genre braced grey skies, flood prone Trinidad highways and level entrance traffic to come out and represent. Billed as an all go showcase with an almost zero tolerance for anything chrome. Stance nationals delivered on its promise to be a different kind of automotive experience. There was no trophies, no contest for best paint, no bang bang budup – just rows and rows of line laden auto erotica. There were many cars there that represented the tuner lifestyle to the hilt as well as those that really didn’t. Either way it was all good because in the end we are all part of the same mango that’s soaked in the bandania laced chow called car and representing the automotive life is what true tuners do best.

Upon hearing the story behind Faisal Mahadeo’s ultimate Evo build we kinda gawked, simply because the way he did things in the earlies reminded us about a certain writer at the magazine. The only difference is that Faisal’s car is working well and the writer’s car is on two jackstand waiting to be finished. Most young people; when they now get into speed and feel that rush seem to have the cross-eyed idea that going fast equates to going broke and the more money you spend behind any given project the faster it will go. On paper; that equation adds up like the government’s rational for spending untold million on laptops. But in the real world we at the Sixth must say; from experience, it doesn’t quite work out that way.
set in
In the beginning everybody gets into speed for the love of going fast at their own pace until they get a blowout by a faster car. Faisal was no different and after a panel van type crucifixion by the infamous Silver Bullet (see issue 10 if you can; if not tuff) Faisal trumped up to do a built that would put him in the driver’s seat of straight line redemption and judicial dispensation. Now; when building a car to deal with matters, lack of information together with thirst will make you spend A LOT of bad money. It’s during this stage that Faisal managed to set the record for Fastest Evo with his Thundercat blazing the wallerfield ¼ in a time of 11.3 during 2004; a record which still holds to today. However; it’s also at this stage where he began blowing money like snat through a 1 ply napkin. A series of preventable engine failures of CATASTROPIC proportions i.e. engine through block on more than one occasion had Faisal funneling money like water on repairs. Everybody in speed know that fixes cost and doing the same fix over and over costs MORE. Eventually got fedup; sold the car and found another hobby. With that kinda of burning the first time around; it goes without question that when Faisal decided to get his feet wet a few years later he didn’t hold back. Learning from his mistakes he made up his mind to go and be
20
Stone guided by the old time saying “It’s better to do something right the first time and done; than do it wrong and pay for it later.” Humming this credo, Faisal approached his employer and somehow managed to sell them the idea that doing a race car; much less a 2001 Evolution 7 is a GREAT way to market the company. They went for it. So with the backing of Central Concrete and Pumps Limited; one of the few companies that seem to think sponsoring a sports car is a fantastic way to expose the business, what it stands for and how well they are at mixing it up and dropping it hard, Concrete wise. Armed with research; the knowledge only experience could give and Anil Ramdeen on the install. The project commenced with a sound plan; a call to the US of A and a 2.3L racehead from Cosworth. Not nice by any means, the Cozzy head is CNC ported; dyno tested and flow benched proven to deliver all the way to 10,500 rpm. The head came with titanium retainers, 4 angle valve job on the stainless steel valves, high performance valve springs. Settling the debt to increase the breath is a set of aggressive Tomei 290 deg cams mounted on AEM cam gears; HKS Kansei intake manifold and a 90mm throttle body from a Nissan Infiniti Q45. Coming in the container as well was a stroked 2.3 AMS Evo block with 9.25:1 forged pistons, custom rods, ARP rod bolts, AMS balance shaft, new water and oil pump and a custom crank. The ever popular ARP main & head studs were used to keep things tight and tidy across the plains.
some green. Remember Bigger is not necessarily better; too large a turbocharger is going to create too much lag and too small a turbocharger is going to limit the horsepower production of the engine. It’s all about finding that sweet spot. (at this point we are supposed to go into reading compressor maps, but we realized that the the space wouldn’t be enough. SO; in true backward sixthspeed fashion, we’ll finish the rum article because the space just happens to be jess enough - go read page 34 and then come back here.)
+The Breathalyzer thing:
We really were not going to do this, But we have a “thing” about this. The truth is, more effort needs to placed on public awareness and education about driving whilst under intoxication, so as to increase the level of personal responsibility and awareness by INDIVIDUALS. However, for most governments; that’s too hard and they usually LOVE to intrude on the lives of people and broad brush everything all on the notion that it’s in the public’s best interest. It’s a lot of peanuts isn’t it. Anyways; when you drink, alcohol (more specifically ethanol), shows up in your breath because it gets absorbed from the mouth, throat, stomach and intestines, into the bloodstream. As the tainted blood passes through the lungs, a certain amount of the “good stuff” moves into the lung membranes and thereby the lung itself. Once it’s inside the lungs (the thing you use for breathing) it evaporates like all good alcohol will and is exhaled when you breathe out. Enter the breathalyzer which will measure that said breath to determine the concentration of alco. in the lung’s air and thereby the body. See simple; and there in lies the problem. Now, honestly we could care less about this thing simply because the breathlyser assumes too much to EVER be realistic. Over the limit does not NECESSARILY mean you’re drunk or even slightly impaired, since that measured limit VARIES based on person to person. Not taking into account the mitigating external factors that can affect the accuracy of the breath test. TRUST us, there are MANY things that affect the body’s absorption of alcho and all this has a DIRECT effect on how well the unit can make an accurate measurement - since you can FAIL the test and not be whizzed OR; PASS the test and be stoned.. It’s like trying to draw a straight line on a moving boat in rough water, while going in a circle in the night. The Breath thing in our opinion is a hit and miss kinda thing: but that’s just us.
So sixth how much is too much:
This is impossible to answer since everybody is made up differently - your ability to properly process rum may vary on many factors such as sex, weight, age, level of physical health, amount of sleep, body temperature, height, genetic makeup; even time of day can dictate how fast you become nicked. Saying that one drink is okay will be wrong on our part; since ONE drink; can send you sailing given the right circumstances. You have to know YOU and ANYTHING that impairs your physical or mental state when it comes to driving should PREFERABLY be avoided since the more impaired you are, the more you are gonna suck at driving a car. It’s really that simple!
+Our Bottomline:
The peer & social pressure placed on average people to consume is a billion times greater than the encouragement not to drink and usually it’s the pressure to impress or prove a point that gets people killed. Not to mention the absense of honest, turthful, real information. As anykind of REAL Driver YOU have to be responsible; so the ball is ALWAYS in your court and it’s always your choice. We at the magazine have buried MANY friends and whilst we do know all too well how much of a blast drinking and getting wasted can be; not so much so the hangover. Dying in a car or on a bike for rum just ain’t cool. That’s NOT how you go out. You have to be in charge of you always – forget laws, roadblock, fines and all that breath crap. It’s all about being responsible; for you, your fellow drivers out there and your passengers (if any). At the magazine we need you; not because we like you, but because we want to keep you spending money on us. BE RESPONSIBLE, KNOW & RESPECT YOUR LIMIT and DON’T PUSH IT. There really is no “safe” level of drinking before driving and when you strip it all away; the stories may be nice BUT there’s nothing to PROVE to anybody out there. It’s not our job to think for you; we NOT here for that. You have a brain - USE it! Know when to say when; Know when to say NO; Know when to walk away and always make informed decisions. Represent people!
Kids, we’re gonna come at you straight like a Maracas road and on point like a Taliban with matches in a Chinese grocery. Most people get thoroughly tied up into thinking that the “good” things in life does come just so – dry like coconut husk. Well, not really sorry to sink that fantasy island but it nah work so; neither does it come for free (even bigger fantasy). When it comes to getting stuff that’s worth having; the impartial teacher of unrelenting progressiveness called life WILL edify you in quite a short space of time that you will have to work hard. But not just any kind of hard; rather, banga bean, donkey stones, iron chisel kind of hard. This is the kinda hard that when you done you will have inhaled enough pain to fill the rain water barrel behind the house until it overfloweth. Pain like this teaches you sacrifice; defeat; triumph and then some; but what it can’t teach you is how to stone jumbie pilot a set of Mickey T’s into a fresh rubber pile that smells of glory; stinks of disdain and reeks of contempt for the people road so much so that after the earth is scorched; flames dance and do back-flips in tangible excitement. This kind of angst to demoralize the fresh pitch comes from experience, pure bad mind and the desire to fulfill a childhood dream. As far back as the eighties Ricky Rambaran aka Rebel (don’t ask ‘cause we don’t know) was always in to the lifestyle. Coming up under V8, nitrous and nostril flaring carburetion; American muscle was imprinted in his DNA from the start. Even though the rebel passed through a pleh of car including a modified mini, a worked up escort, a Ford 2000 Ghia Cortos and a white 710 RB charged bluebird that deees-stroyed the cross back in the day and managed a 12 something on the quarter.

REBELwith a CAUSE
BACK in theYARD BOMBER At the sixth we will forever say that it takes a different breed of human to ride a bike. As opposed to four wheels; rolling hard on two requires a totally altered mindset that mere mortals will NEVER be able to understand. Now, whilst it takes a not so average person to go out there and buy a moped; it takes a different kind of individual to move breathless on one. This person must have more stomach than a lick-qurish pot hound in a shandi-leer bush or have the skill set to underhand launch a big stone in the night; over a Nissan Skyline bonnet; under a clothes line and buss way a big rat breezing out in a drain a hundred feet away. Trinidad is full of different people – Michael Maturine is one ah dem along side Boogie; but he is a different story all together. Michael aka Mikey was one of the foundation pillars of the underground bike scene. Always a man into the lifestyle and never backing down from a challenge should all over explain why anyone would want to take the fastest production bike of all time and ramplitude the power from 162 to well over 200 by a monster 250 lb*tq. Built by Robert Seepaul from Canada; the sole purpose of this bike was to beat the infamous Horsie (not our words eh!). Knowing that it wasn’t going to be no cake walk since we know Horsie is a beast when in a zone and held the fastest street

HOW to GET into
RIDING the right way part two
(......Don’t be afraid to whip out your issue 11 - to show off)......... Ideally you should find a small bike that physically fit your frame. If the bike is too big you may have trouble reaching hand & foot controls and if it’s too small you’ll just be all out uncomfortable; you won’t enjoy riding it and having proper control is going to be out of the question as well. Now, I’m sure you’re saying why start small as in 250, 175 or smaller when my partner didn’t start of so and he rides well. First what did we say about that my partner talk – forget it. Second; in the beginning, the only goal you’re supposed to have is developing proper technique and bike control. Fun doesn’t necessarily mean speed and having a bike that is waaaaayyyyy beyond your capabilities from the jump, doesn’t allow you to develop proper hand/ foot/ eye co-ordination; apt counter balancing technique, good cornering and so on. As far as why you should get either a scooter, a trail or a used small bike that’s mechanically sound is simple. They are cheap and if you drop either of them; and you will, damage won’t be an issue. Trails are made for falling and not being injured seriously; and a used bike/ scooter for small money you will not really care much about. Trust us, the sight and sound of a sport bike hitting the ground is very painful and the repair bill will make you wish for better days. Remember learning is NOT about glamour, looking good should be the last thing you’re worried about. We are going to say it again: Forget the old talk and leave your ego about looking dotish on a small bike at home. “Big man like you riding a small bike like that, you ent shame!” is this kind of marble talk that leads people to their grave.
