A Message from the OBAA President

Dear Fellow Alumni,

As we have now reached the conclusion of 2020, I think it’s appropriate to reflect upon the positives that emerged from the storm. Outlined below are just a few of my observations:

• With many gatherings and events canceled; on May 21, we managed to come together and support our beloved Academy with the single largest Day of Giving event in the history of the school! Over $234,000 was raised on that day! Quite the accomplishment!

• In the face of the pandemic in March and mandated by the

Governor of Wisconsin, the faculty and staff of our school transitioned to a fully virtual curriculum in just 3 days’ time. This accomplishment continues to amaze me and gives me great pride.

• We welcomed Jon Bennett along with George and Janemarie

Hillier as Honorary Old Boys, continuing the great tradition to honor those who have given so much to advance our school.

• We honored Dr. Robert Hessberger S1970, Dr. Crain Bilwas N1965, and Greg Van Praag S1972 for their exemplary accomplishments and support of the Academy throughout the years.

• As alums, we increased our giving participation rate to 7.4% in

FY20; up from 5.5% the previous year.

• We welcomed MG Paul Lima as our new leader! MG Lima has only been at the helm for a couple of months, and his presence and leadership are already being felt.

As you can see, 2020 was not quite the lost year that we feel it may have been. In many ways, through our separation, we became closer. I hope you feel the same as I do. Yet, with that said, I can’t wait to get back together and celebrate with my brothers and sisters of the OBAA in 2021! I have a couple of updates for you, dependent upon COVID-19 protocols in the months ahead…

May 2021 Commencement & Reunion Weekend: During the OBAA meeting, the entire executive board will be up for election. I encourage you to attend graduation and get your votes in as a director of the board. I will continue to provide updates in the coming months. I also encourage you to secure your hotel/motel reservations for Commencement & Reunion Weekend, as we know those tend to fill up fast.

The OBAA Chris Madding Memorial Golf Outing is pending. We hope to have information out to our alums via the alumni newsletters and social media in the coming weeks.

It has been an honor and privilege serving as your OBAA President these past few years. I believe we are headed in the right direction and with your help, we will succeed.
