Covershoot 2014 Vendor Love

By: Fergie Rosales A combination of elegance and beauty is what every bride aims for on her wedding day. In our Fall/Winter photo-shoot, we worked with a team that was not only professional but also poised. It took place at the Marina Del Rey Marriott, less than 15 minutes away from Dockweiler State Beach. With it’s elongated hallways with dim lighting and breathtaking balcony views Marina Del Rey Marriott made our bride glow. The hotel staff obliged to requests for our photo-shoot and without a doubt will do the same for your special day. All of your guests can benefit from their amenities from personalized meal plans to personalized traditional ceremonies. Our bride is wearing a wedding gown from Elyse Reuben custom couture. ElyseReuben participates in non-profit runway shows that strive to promote modesty and sophistication. They stitch dresses for every body type including the flower girl, the mother of the bride and your custom bridal gown. Silhouettes vary from long to short with styles like sweetheart strapless, slim fitting mermaid, gorgeous ball gown including eloquent sleeves, with textures of silk and lace. Topping the look off with feathers, diamonds or a handcrafted belt creates endless possibilities. There is no better way to illuminate in your gown than by having flawless hair and makeup. The Sweet Smiles Artistry hair and makeup team believes in quality and perfecting their beautiful brides. Their services vary from classic/traditional to vintage/glam for both hair and makeup.

20 • LABRIDAL.COM Fall/Winter 2014

For our photo-shoot the team created an elegant neutral look. Nicholas Reynolds created two varied hairstyles. One hairstyle displayed soft loose curls and the other was a chic side curly updo. Sweet Smiles Artistry entail flawless, long lasting results. Flowers by Sam, Sam Robinson, is a very talented floral designer who can take every increment detail about your wedding and incorporate your unique style into his designs. The bouquets and centerpieces can be a mixture of different flowers including roses, sunflower, lilly, calla lilly, and gerber daisy. The bouquets incorporated in the photo-shoot have different shades of purple, red-orange, and ivory. Alongside the bridal gown, the fluorescent bouquet enhances the bride’s dress. The naturalness and brightness of the flowers will add an edge to your look. Get started and get your free consultation at Flowers by Sam. The ring on your finger is just as essential as the gown you are wearing on your special day. At Sarah Leonard Fine Jewelers you can fine vintage, classic and customized rings made by expert designers. Each designer ring displays unique styles including diamonds with gold accents, complementary sets for both you and your fiancé, elegant rings with a large diamond set surrounded by eloquently placed small stones and rings with a diamond band proving to be classy and elegant.

Our bride is wearing the Tacori Dantela platinum semi mount ring paired with a Tacori crescent silhouette dia eternity band with a complementary drop necklace and earrings, which helps completes her look. This gorgeous jewelry also pairs beautifully with Jill Watson’s Save the Veil, veil weights. The magnetic weights impeccably stay on your veil to avoid the wind carrying your veil out of your hair and obstructing pictures and the ceremony. Not only do the weights help restrain your veil in a sophisticated manner, but it also works as an accessory. Save the Veil has four options to choose from, oval with crystal, oval with pearl, round with crystal or round with pearl. Cameron Taylor and Lucas Parker from Cameron Taylor Photography do a phenomenal job at capturing every intimate detail on your wedding day. The photographers captured our bride in every possible natural pose and setting from the grand lobby to the stunning balcony views. They captured her complexion, her ring, veil, dress, and bouquet. The photographs from your wedding are the most essential gifts and memories you can receive. Cameron and Lucas act as storytellers through the journey of your wedding and do their best to share your love story through their photographs. These wedding professinoals are sure to provide you with stress-free and remarkale memories on your wedding day.

Your Wedding Planner must be a good LISTENER. They will have to listen to you, the Bride, but also to other family members who are participating in the ceremony. Your Wedding Planner must respect and be able to work within your BUDGET. Your Wedding Planner should have CLASS & RESPECT. Your Wedding Planner should have REFERENCES. You will want to speak to a few of their most recent clients and you want to ask them the hard questions such as: * How does your potential planner behave under pressure? * Are they timely? * Do they follow through? * How did they handle the vendors? * Did they make excuses or make it happen? * How did the wedding end up? * Were they 100% satisfied with the wedding planner? Your Wedding Planner should have a SET FEE. Either an hourly or a Wedding Project Fee, depending on what services they are providing for you and not have “add-on” fees. Your Wedding Planner should have a CONTRACT for you and the vendors. The Wedding Planners should be the leader in all conversations with vendors and a true advocate for the Bride and Groom. From pricing to quality, the planner should have your best interest at 100%. Your Wedding Planner should have the CAPABILITY to: * Create a time-line from the beginning until the day that you and your spouse get home from the honeymoon and begin your life together * Select Invitations as well as appropriate wording * Work with your Pastor or WOfficiant * Select and reserve your ceremony and reception site * Select, hire and manage desired suppliers and vendors

Find the Perfect Destination Wedding Location for You!

1. Pick the perfect spot — for you and your fiancé. Take your time deciding your perfect Destination Wedding Location! Make sure the spot represents you and your significant other. 2. Be prepared for any kind of weather. Most destination weddings tend to be outside so be ready with your Save the Veil: Veil Weights so when the wind blows your veil won’t! (pg. 65) 3. Time it perfectly. Make sure you’re not booking your wedding during another big event or your guests will have a hard time booking hotel rooms. Also, keep in touch with your wedding party and try to work around their schedule as well. 4. Dress for the location. Make sure you tailor your dress and makeup to your location, whether it be a beach wedding or an extravagant church wedding don’t be afraid to try different styles. 5. Keep a budget in mind. Just remember that not everyone can afford super-expensive plane tickets or a five-star hotel. Fancy isn’t always better, just be yourselves. Also, don’t forget to keep track of your wedding budget! 6. Use wild and local flowers for your decor. It’s the little things that will make your day truly stand out. Try incorporating colors that you and your significant other both love, but don’t get too stuck on a “color palette”. 7. Ask your family and friends first. Be positive that your guests and wedding party are on board with traveling for your wedding before planning it out. 8. Encourage your guests to try new things. Write out a local guide — one of the best parts of a destination wedding is doing something you normally wouldn’t try. If you and your significant other are foodies, try making a restaurant guide for them to follow! 44 • LABRIDAL.COM Fall/Winter 2014

9. Research the local cuisine. Try to combine local foods into the reception. It will fit the theme and be super fresh! 10. Go for a “planning trip” first. Make sure you take at LEAST one planning trip before booking your destination wedding. You’re definitely going to want to see it in person first. Heck, try out a few places! You might not know it until you see it. (See below) 11. Double check the local marriage requirements. Everywhere is different, make sure you know the laws before you plan the ceremony! 12. Send out travel-themed invitations and save-the-dates. Maps, postcards, and passport themes are perfect for this. Super cute. Rather than buying pre-made invites, try hiring a designer who can capture your aesthetic perfectly. 13. Take care of yourself. Traveling can take a lot out of anybody, so make sure you get plenty of rest and stay healthy and beautiful for your big day. Drink lots of water and keep your face clean and luminous, especially when visiting a humid climate. 14. Consider a “trash the dress” ceremony before you pack your bags. Take advantage of the local nature, and throw the perfect “trash the dress” photoshoot! 15. Take care of your guests as much as possible. Your guests traveled far and wide for your big day, make sure they’re taken care of!

JEWELERS

7 Common Diamond Buying Mistakes 1. Buying a diamond based on the certificate While a diamond certificate can give you an “idea” of what a diamond will look like, it can never tell the whole story. That is why jewelers and gemologists only buy diamonds they have been inspected in person. Every color grade and every clarity grade is a range, so not all G-SI1 diamonds are the same! That is just one of the many reasons why there can be such large price differences between diamonds that appear seemingly the same. If you are considering a shape other than round this becomes even more critical. These other shapes can frequently have different numbers of facets, different facet arrangements, and of course, very different proportions. It can also impact how large the diamond appears—carat is a measure of weight, not size, so not all 1.00ct diamonds will have the same surface area. The best diamond cutters in the world balance visible size with maximum light performance, and seeing the diamond in person is the only way to know which is the most dazzling! 2. Demanding a GIA Certificate GIA is generally regarded as the foremost authority in gemology and diamond grading in the world. However, every diamond IS whatever it IS, regardless of which lab has graded it. It is CRITICAL that you understand the differences between labs, but ultimately if you have two diamonds side by side and one is prettier and less expensive, but not graded by GIA, who cares? In other words, diamond grading is NOT an exact science! This is why it is so important to see the diamonds in person AND to work with a trusted professional who can offer their guidance and expertise. 3. Misunderstanding color and clarity Clarity in particular is often given far too much emphasis by uneducated buyers. We all want clean gorgeous diamonds, but properly graded SI1 diamonds are just as “clean” to the naked eye as a flawless diamond costing thousands more! Even the best I1 clarity diamonds can be surprisingly clean and spectacular if they are cut well. Remember that each color grade is a range, and that the difference from one color to the next is almost indistinguishable once a diamond is set in a ring.

4. Putting too much, or not enough, emphasis on the lesser factors Some people get caught up in the exact dimensions/ proportions of diamonds they are considering. Or they demand certain polish and symmetry grades. Here is the critical point—it is the relationship of ALL the quality factors of a diamond that determine how our eye perceives it’s brilliance, fire, and overall beauty. Look at each diamond, compare them side by side, and let your EYE tell you which is the most spectacular diamond, not a piece of paper. 5. Misunderstanding fluorescence Fluorescence is the natural phenomenon found in some diamonds that cause them to “glow” when exposed to UV light (including sunlight). It CAN be bad if it is strong or very strong and results in what is known as a “chalky” or “milky” appearance. But this only occurs in a tiny percentage of diamonds. Most fluorescent diamonds have little or no visible affect and in many cases, especially with near colorless or light yellow stones, will actually IMPROVE the appearance while also saving you money! 6. Not checking the upgrade policy Many stores offer upgrade policies on their diamonds. Some don’t offer one at all, while others require that you DOUBLE your investment any time you want to upgrade. Other stores may have looser policies that will give you more flexibility in the future if you choose to upgrade your diamond. Be sure to ask and make sure the policy is the best for you in the long term. Remember, a diamond is an investment for life, and your jeweler and their programs should be a part of the lifetime of celebrations. 7. Not working with an educated professional Sure you want to get the best price. Who doesn’t? But don’t you think it’s worth a few extra dollars to have an expert guide you through one of the most important financial and emotional purchases of your life? Find a gemologist you TRUST, with lots of experience, and let them educate you further about the things I listed above. See it for yourself, and let them help you discover the best VALUE. Most importantly, working with an expert can help you relax and HAVE FUN! This process should be exciting and enjoyable… let them take some of the stress and worry away so you can cherish the experience. Congratulations!!!

Marriage Licenses BY LINDSAY GOWER It’s the must-have accessory for every bride: A Marriage License! So let’s review the basics you need to know about getting licensed to wed. Getting the License Both bride and groom must go, in person together, to a County Clerk’s office. In California, you can go to the Clerk’s Office in any county; it does not need to be the county in which you are having the wedding. Neither of you needs to be a California resident to apply for a California marriage license. No blood test or medical exam is required and there is no waiting period: You apply, pay, and receive the license then and there. You both must: • Be at least 18 years old. If you’re younger, you need consent of parent or guardian. • Bring a government- issued valid picture ID (such as a driver’s license) that includes your full legal name and date of birth. • If you have been married before, bring Proof of Dissolution. You cannot apply for a marriage license if you are married, even if your divorce is almost final. What to Do With the License You receive an unsigned license. Here’s what makes it an official wedding certificate: • Get married within 90 days of the date the license is issued! • Before the wedding, give the license to the person who’ll officiate at the ceremony. The officiant is required to review the license before conducting the ceremony. It’s a good idea to bring it to the rehearsal for go over it with the officiant, and of course bring it to the wedding. • After the ceremony, the officiant will complete and sign the license, and have it signed by bride, groom, and at least one witness. • The officiant will return the license to the County Clerk’s office within 10 days of the ceremony, so it can be officially recorded. Once recorded, you can buy a copy of your wedding certificate (depending on the county, you don’t receive one automatically).

IN LOS ANGELES, YOU CAN APPLY FOR A MARRIAGE LICENSE ONLINE. IT’S EASY AND SAVES TIME! Once you complete the online application you can come to the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk headquarters in Norwalk or go to any one of our branch offices to pick up your marriage license, pay the license fee, and arrange for a civil marriage ceremony, if desired. Call or visit any of the branches listed below for further details. The Soundtrack to Your Life By: Eric Jay - President of Soli Studios Music, Inc.

Your wedding day is you and your spouse’s first, most public and forever memorable expression of your love for one another. Every little detail from the colors of the flowers and fabrics to the perfect location and date, you strive to make sure it is all exactly perfect in how it speaks to your guests and expresses your love and commitment. All of this seems manageable enough, until you get to the music. Lot’s of questions arise. What is the best style of music for my wedding? Should I just have the DJ start and stop a CD? Do I want to walk down the aisle to a pre-recorded song, or would live music express what I want better? What kinds of instruments should I have play? Where can I find musicians to play what I want? “Where words fail, music speaks.” Hans Christian Andersen couldn’t be more right! Of all the preparations you have made for your wedding day, no other element will bring more joy and celebration, or express the often speechless love you have with your spouse more eloquently than the accompaniment of professional live music. Imagine - as your guests arrive they are serenaded by the ethereal sounds of a

So many brides have no idea what they are missing out on when they allow the DJ to try and express through music what only live professional musicians are able to provide. harpist, or the relaxing background melodies of the piano. With anticipation at its peak, the string quartet fills the air with the announcement that the ceremony is beginning. The quartet continues to narrate the story of your love as the parents, bridesmaids and flower girls process down the aisle. The quartet then quietly resolves their last note, and

after a moment of silent excitement, three sterling silver trumpets herald your guests to their feet and announce the entrance of the beautiful bride. As you walk down the aisle toward the love of your life, the harp, piano, trumpets and strings perfectly play the special songs you have picked for this once in a lifetime journey. As the ceremony ends, the music crescendos to celebrate your new life together and you recess out and into your new life. Your guests continue to be entertained during the cocktail hour by the sounds of the piano, trumpet and violin player who now have your guests smiling to the sounds of Frank Sinatra, Broadway, Pop/Jazz and all the special requests you’ve made. Finally, before the party begins with the thump of the DJ’s speakers, the string quartet provides the perfect mood music as your guests enjoy dinner with the new bride and groom. So many brides have no idea what they are missing out on when they allow the DJ to try and express through music what only live professional musicians are able to provide. Here at Soli Entertainment, we are all established music industry professionals. From traditional classical weddings in the chapel, to rock-weddings in a warehouse, to everything in between, Soli Entertainment provides you with the best of any kind or style of musicians, bands, DJ’s and live music entertainment for your special event.
