This past December 25, 2015, Logan and I took our Christmas trip to Southern California to visit his family. He was eagerly telling me that we needed to go to the beach to send a Christmas picture to my family. If you know Logan, getting him to take pictures is a process so I just kept saying "Obviously, we are going to the beach, we always do." Something was fishy but I didn't think twice about it. Christmas Day arrives and as we hopped off the plane it seemed like we just couldn't get down to the beach fast enough for Logan. As we arrive to the beach and gaze at the beauty of the ocean. Logan stops and says "Whoa! Did you see that dolphin?" and me being the gullible person I am, starts searching. After a couple minutes and to my despair there was no dolphin, so I turn to tell Logan about my disappointment to not finding a dolphin, and there he is on one knee with this incredible driftwood box engraved with "L & S 12/25/15" and the most beautiful ring inside. Cue the tears ladies, I was shocked and excited. I could tell he was nervous since he could barely say a word, and so thankful that this man who was clearly made for me wanted to spend the rest of our lives together. 1. Learn! Learn! Learn! With so many new metals out there be sure you understand the differences. For example, many contemporary metals (like titanium and tungsten) can not be sized, and platinum and palladium will not change color over time the way white gold will and can be polished any time. 2. Recognize the differences! Not all 6mm bands are the same! Some are lightweight, others are comfort fit, and some are simply mass produced with inferior quality. It’s important to feel the band before you purchase to make sure it’s something he’s going to enjoy wearing. 3. Get it customized! Many wedding bands can be special ordered in whatever metal you want, whatever texture (shiny, matte, hammered, etc), whatever width, etc. Be sure he gets exactly what he wants—he’s going to wear it forever after all! 4. Engrave it! Some couples decide this together as a way to personalize their wedding bands, but it can also be a special surprise for him if you want to plot secretly with your jeweler.

5. Get matching bands! Many couples today will get matching bands. Frequently your band is a second “activity” band to wear when not wearing your diamonds. This is great for travelling, hiking, going to the beach, etc. There are some
collections, TACORI for example, that have matching details that still come in very feminine and masculine versions. 6. Try on different bands! Many guys assume it’s going to be easy to find a band they like. But once they start trying things on they realize how many incredible options that are that will reflect his personality and style. Give yourself plenty of time (two months minimum to ensure no stress!) in case you want to special order something (which can frequently take 4 weeks or more from designers). You don’t want your man to settle for anything less than the best when it comes to symbolizing your love…

Marriage Licenses BY LINDSAY GOWER It’s the must-have accessory for every bride: A Marriage License! So let’s review the basics you need to know about getting licensed to wed. Getting the License Both bride and groom must go, in person together, to a County Clerk’s office. In California, you can go to the Clerk’s Office in any county; it does not need to be the county in which you are having the wedding. Neither of you needs to be a California resident to apply for a California marriage license. No blood test or medical exam is required and there is no waiting period: You apply, pay, and receive the license then and there. You both must: • Be at least 18 years old. If you’re younger, you need consent of parent or guardian. • Bring a government- issued valid picture ID (such as a driver’s license) that includes your full legal name and date of birth. • If you have been married before, bring Proof of Dissolution. You cannot apply for a marriage license if you are married, even if your divorce is almost final. What to Do With the License You receive an unsigned license. Here’s what makes it an official wedding certificate: • Get married within 90 days of the date the license is issued! • Before the wedding, give the license to the person who’ll officiate at the ceremony. The officiant is required to review the license before conducting the ceremony. It’s a good idea to bring it to the rehearsal for go over it with the officiant, and of course bring it to the wedding. • After the ceremony, the officiant will complete and sign the license, and have it signed by bride, groom, and at least one witness. • The officiant will return the license to the County Clerk’s office within 10 days of the ceremony, so it can be officially recorded. Once recorded, you can buy a copy of your wedding certificate (depending on the county, you don’t receive one automatically).
