Have you ever imagined staying aboard a beautiful Yacht for your Honeymoon or an intimate wedding ceremony? Or having your Bachelor/Bachelorette party on a Yacht? Most people end up staying in the same old generic hotel room in the hustle and bustle of downtown. When was the last time you called a family member or friend and said, “You should see this place, it’s fantastic!” Plan to spend your special occasion on one of our beautifully appointed “Boat Bed & Breakfast” yachts, moored at the secluded Shelter Cove Marina. For about the same price as a hotel room you can be sleeping on the water in San Diego’s famous America’s Cup Harbor. With all of our yachts you are not renting a room, you are living in a fully functional sailing ship or motor yacht that have long histories of ocean passages and adventures. Experience what it is really like to live at sea.

he asked...she said yes! These two beautiful couples share their proposal stories with us.
tyler & stephanie Tyler and I went to upstate New York for a friend’s wedding. During the reception Tyler and I were lucky enough to catch both the bridal bouquet and the garter. We then drove to New York City for a few days to see the sights because we have both never been. On our second to last day we spent most of the day walking and taking the subway to all of the big stops (the statue of liberty, world trade center; the federal reserve, etc) and our last stop was the Empire State Building. At the top, we went outside for the second time to take one more picture before we left, and to my surprise Tyler got down on one knee and proposed! It was truly a special trip, and New York will always hold a special place in our hearts.
tim & bree On this beautiful Thursday evening Tim asked Bree where she would like to go to dinner. Bree responded that Spaghetti Bender (in Newport Beach) sounded good, so they left for dinner around 7pm. While they were finishing up dinner Tim asked Bree if she would like to go for a walk on the Beach (which is what they do sometimes when they go to dinner at Spaghetti Bender). Once they showed up at the beach Bree noticed lights in the distance and thought it was a bonfire. Tim nonchalantly said “lets go check it out”. As they got closer Bree thought to herself “how cute someone is having a candle light dinner”. As they were walking, Tim grabbed her hand and said “you know I love you right” as Bree replied “yes of course I love you too”. It wasn’t until she noticed her picture blanket in the sand that she realized what was going on. Tim had candles set up in a heart shape, with pink rose petals and their picture blanket in the dead center. Then he got down on one knee and asked the question that will forever change their lives. Covershoot 2015 Sets Sail Written By: Brittney McClendon Every bride deserves a blissful and beautiful wedding day. So, in order to create those magical moments between a bride and groom, a variety of wedding professionals gathered at Boat Bed and Breakfast in San Diego, CA to shape the perfect atmosphere for a happy couple. Located only minutes away from the San Diego Airport and the San Diego Yacht Club, Spring/Summer 2015 cover shoot took place aboard Slipaway, a beautiful yacht that provided the perfect backdrop for a bride and groom. What sets this yacht apart from the rest is its classic yet sophisticated look. The Pilot’s Station and Sette are two areas aboard Slipaway that help create the timeless ambiance. The bride wore several different fitted gowns from Mon Amie Bridal Salon including three designer gowns by Pronovias, Lazaro and Suzanne Neville. Located in Southern California, Mon Amie has been serving brides for over 35 years. The salon features a variety of designer gowns that can accommodate any bride’s tastes and preferences. Some of the designers include Lazaro, Suzanne Neville, and Monique Lhuillier. Apart from wedding gowns, Mon Amie provides mother-of-the-bride dresses, wedding party dresses, and special occasion gowns. Twisted Hangers provided custom hangers for the dresses and tuxedo to be displayed in style. Customize your hangers based on wording, hanger, flower, and wire color. Save the Veil also supplied veil weights, magnetic weights that resemble pearl and diamond pendants, for the brides long flowing veil. Just in case the wind picks up on your wedding day, Save the veil will make sure that when the wind blows your veil wont.

Friar Tux provided a suit and a tuxedo for our groom. Photographed is a Steel Grey Allure slim fit two-button notch lapel suit and a Navy Lorenzo slim fit one-button tuxedo with a black satin shawl lapel. The Navy Lorenzo is exclusive to the Friar Tux Shop. Hair Stylist and Makeup Artist, Jessica Fredrick of Beauty Duo provided her talent and expertise to both the bride and groom. Jessica has many years of experience in the wedding industry creating one of a kind looks at photo-shoots and bridal runway shows. She created two hair and makeup looks for our bride. Capturing a more natural toned makeup with the bride’s hair softly curled and pinned to the side. A second more dramatic look with the bride donning a bolder lip and eye color. Beauty Duo implements sophistication and finesse in their work, and produce flawless bridal beauty. The bride’s long, flawless eyelash extensions are provided by Penelope Pit Stop Lashes. Topping it off with elegant nails provided by nail artist, Kristina Rollon from Lori’s Nail Cottage. People say that diamonds are a girl’s best friend, so it is safe to say that the ring is the most important accessory for the wedding day. Sarah Leonard Fine Jewelers provided the rings used in the photoshoot. Located in Southern California, Sarah Leonard Fine Jewelers has been around for more that 65 years. They are a premier family owned jewelry store centered on designing elegant and exclusive jewelry. Each ring is uniquely designed, differing in cut, color, and diamond placement. Whether you want small accents of color on your ring or a simple band, Sarah Leonard creates high-end jewelry suited to satisfy any bride and groom.
Sam Robinson from Flowers by Sam arranged two beautiful bouquets. One of the bouquets features light green protea flowers and pink roses. This paired well with the natural subtleties of the bride’s hair, makeup, and dress. The second bouquet included purple hydrangeas and an array of seasonal flowers. Sam incorporates the freshest flowers in his arrangements and creates works of art based on the flowers he chooses to add. Crystals, jewels, and feathers can be added to the arrangements. Sunflowers, lilies, orchids, and gerber daisies are some of the flowers he uses in his bouquets and centerpieces. Each arrangement will be unique and custom based on the wedding style. Cameron Taylor Photography was able to capture every affectionate moment between the bride and groom. The photographer captured every detail of the bride and groom. The contrast they interpreted while shooting in different locations was essential in creating an amiable atmosphere. The photos taken during the day aboard the yacht were fluent and playful. The nighttime photos were much dramatic and elegant. Cameron Taylor Photography portrayed a story through the photos and envisioned what every bride wants on her big day…love.

bridal buzz:
words from a...wedding planner
How can couples go about finding their inspiration for their wedding day?
We always like to suggest to couples to incorporate something from their first date or from the day they met. If they met over a glass a wine they should look at a vineyard theme. If they were introduced through friends then they could enlarge pictures of them with those friends and display them at the reception.
How can you ease couples minds about going through the wedding planning process?
Our first goal is to ensure that our couples trust us to guide them down the wedding planning process. We create trust by sharing our portfolio of passed weddings, testimonials and most importantly designing a wedding plan custom to their wishes prior to contracting us.
Katherine Dimas Promise Events PromiseEventsLLC.com
How can couples incorporate their personal style and personality?
We believe that colors make a big statement in a wedding. Deciding what color represents the couple best is a good starting point. If the couple looks to inner peace and tranquility in their life, they would be best represented by the color blue or perhaps the couple is full of creativity and are easily inspired by new ideas, then they would select a shade of yellow. Colors are a powerful method of communication.
What is your favorite thing about a wedding and how do you put your personal Promise Events touch on each wedding?
Our favorite part of a wedding is taking care of our couple on their BIG day and understanding that the long planning journey has reached its climax. We made them a Promise to think of everything so they wouldn’t have to. We offer the couple a Promise Care Basket that they can depend on to get them through their wedding day. Whether it is mascara for the bride or a sewing kit, they will have it available in their Promise Care Basket, compliments of their Promise Events Wedding Coordinator. This detail is to show couples that they are in great hands with us.
What are some of your favorite trends in weddings right now?
We LOVE using chalkboards outdoors. This has become a popular trend with weddings. They are practical and easy. We like to use them to guide guests to the ceremony and reception areas and even to label the buffet, which saves money on printing menu cards! Other services we offer that couples absolutely will love! These tours are great for bachelor/bachelorette parties. For our Long Beach couples, or those willing to travel, we offer Wine Tours in Long Beach. Our wine tour includes transportation and visits to two wine bars. Wine flights and food platters included. The perfect package for wine lovers. Julie Klima Wedding Photography

7 beauty tips for your wedding day Written by: Warren Poirier
Want to keep your skin looking radiant and fresh on your big day? Here are a few makeup tips to guarantee that you look picture perfect the entire day. 1. Consider your environment It all comes down to lighting. If your event is primarily outside, play down your makeup so that your look does not read harsh. Ensure your foundation covers any irritants or red spots, use a brown based kit for your eyes, and soft colors on lips and cheeks. Indoor lighting can drown out your face so feel free to apply more. Cover face evenly with foundation, choose dark tones for your eyes, and brighter colors for your lips and cheeks. 2. Keep it water resistant Everyone knows wedding ceremonies can be emotional for the bride, so it is key to make sure that makeup does not run. Opt for water resistant over waterproof, as it is lighter and easier to remove when the celebration ends. You can apply a light water resistant coat of massacre over your favorite brand to keep it in place. 3. Primer Time The job of primers are to combat the oils in our skin and to create a smooth canvas for your face. Choose a primer based on your skin type and apply a small amount over entire face. Apply it after moisturizing to waterproof your skin for the long day ahead. 4. Set your Foundation The most important item for your big day, foundation is the cornerstone to your bridal look. Make sure it matches your skin tone, and do not forget to blend it into your neck. Start from the middle of the face outwards with small strokes using a foundation brush. Have your photographer flash a picture of you before the ceremony to ensure that the foundation does not appear different on camera.
34 • LABRIDAL.COM spring/summer 2015
5. Concealer, Blush, and Powder Concealer is best after foundation and if applied sparingly. Under the eye up to the inner bridge will ensure that dark circles are covered. Blend by patting, not rubbing. For breakouts spread a light coat of concealer, apply powder, and then reapply another light coat. To get that bridal glow, choose a cream blush and smile, placing the blush on the apples of your cheek and then blending out and up into the hairline. After your makeup is applied, use a very-fine, light-reflecting translucent powder to set it in place.
Your happiness and joy is the most beautiful makeup. 6. Touch-Up Kit For long ceremonies, a touch-up bag is a must. Essentials include oil-blotting tissues, your translucent powder, and cotton swabs. Use each of these products as needed, after the ceremony, before pictures, and throughout reception. A small touch-up kit could be placed in a bridesmaid’s clutch. Because there is going to be a lot of greeting, eating, and talking, make sure to keep an extra tube of your lipstick/lip-gloss in your groom’s pocket for easy access. 7. Smile! The best accessory is a smile. Remember to relax, enjoy, and that a vibrant spirit reflects in your face. Your happiness and joy is the most beautiful makeup.

bridal buzz:
words from a...photographer
How do you assure your clients or couples that you will capture the perfect shots of their wedding day?
We dedicate extensive one-on-one time with each of our couples, educating them about our pre-wedding planning & day-of processes. We use written questionnaires & timelines to make sure everything is communicated clearly. Working this way really makes sure that nothing slips through the cracks.
What is your favorite photo or moment to capture?
Now that’s a hard question! I love so many parts of a wedding day, like doing detailed ring shots, or catching a reaction of a family member witnessing the bride & groom’s vows. But I’d have to say my favorite time is bride & groom portraits. Because of our planning & style of shooting, it allows us to work when the light is perfect for capturing those beautiful natural-light candid moments, plus simultaneously use off-camera lights to create more dramatic, editorial style images. Essentially our couples end up having portraits with more diversity & two completely different styles. We tell every one of our couples how important this time is because these are the images they will enlarge & hang on the walls in their home.
What should couples look for when choosing their photographer?
Wow, where do I begin with this one?! Everyone’s uncle Bob is willing to shoot your wedding, or cousin Joe has a nice camera, but have they ever photographed a wedding? There are so many pieces to the wedding photographer puzzle that are critical: Their personality, education, technical training, experience, photography gear, style of shooting, etc. It’s endless. My best advice to a bride & groom who truly value their photography is to hire a professional and keep an open mind about budget considering the importance of documenting such a unique day. They should have a strong connection with their photographer - a good friendship will help the couple feel more comfortable in front of the camera, which will yield much better images.
Cameron Taylor Cameron Taylor Photography CTaylorPhotos.com
What are your favorite photo trends in weddings?
I’ll stop you right there because we are all about creating classic, timeless images. It’s not that I’m against Pinterest and others of the like, we definitely shoot specific images that our couples are looking for, but I feel that spending too much time recreating images can take away from capturing moments & emotions as they naturally unfold. When our couples open their wedding albums in 5, 10, even 20 years from now, our goal is that they will be viewing classic photography in a simple yet elegant design that is more focused on the story of their love rather than aligned with dated trends.
What are the advantages of a videography/ photography team?
Since we offer both cinematography & photography services, we can save couples a lot of time, resources, and planning headaches. Instead of interacting with two completely different vendors and going through two different timelines, and dealing with two different styles, we give our couples time back but still allow them to check something off their list. Using one vendor for both cinematography & photography also keeps our team in sync, keeps us out of each others’ shots, and results in a much better finished product. They a style that matches, an exceptional, cohesive work product, & a better overall experience because of our team’s planning & constant communication throughout the day.

5 Tips to Keep Your Rings Safe and Spectacular Congratulations! Are you having fun showing off your incredible new ring? Holding it up constantly to see it sparkle and shine? Well, that beautiful new treasure you’re wearing needs some TLC to stay safe and gorgeous. Here are 5 important tips to keep that ring secure and looking great for decades to come… 1. Get insurance!
Heaven forbid something happens to your ring—it’s lost, stolen, etc. For as little as 2% of the ring’s value per year you can fully protect that special investment. You will need an appraisal (which the seller should provide free of charge) and can add the ring/s to your renter’s or home owner’s policy. Or, I strongly suggest checking with Gemshield or Perfect Circle, who specialize in jewelry insurance.
inside of your band if there are openings. Please note, if a diamond falls out while brushing it means it was already loose and about to fall out. Better to come out during cleaning so it can be re-set rather than buying a replacement.
4. Keep it clean-er.
Yes, I want you to clean your ring/s at home all the time, but that’s not the same
2. Have your rings inspected
AT LEAST every six months. Your personal jeweler should give your rings a free checkup any time you want. We ensure that all of your little diamonds (the big one too) are still tight and secure. We inspect the prongs for wear, cracking, or bending. It’s much easier—and less expensive—to repair your ring than to replace lost diamonds. This only takes a few minutes so ask for that small favor at least twice a year.
3. Keep it clean.
I know, this sounds like a no brainer, but you would be surprised how a tiny amount of dirt or film (think lotion, make-up, even soap residue) will suck the brilliance right out of your diamonds. Great news-- you can NOT over-clean precious metals or diamonds. You can scrub your ring every single day. But please—ALWAYS over a closed sink, just to be extra safe. Scrub hard with either a jewelry brush or a toothbrush (my preference). You absolutely will not damage your ring by brushing with vigor, especially on the underside of your big diamond and the
as letting your personal jeweler do it. I invite my clients to stop by any time for complimentary cleanings. I polish the metal, use an industrial ultrasonic machine and a steam blaster to get their rings “like-new.” This only takes a few minutes and makes a HUGE difference in the appearance. If your rings are white gold you also may have them rhodium plated once every year or two to keep that pure white shine they had when they were new.
5. Love your rings.
Yes, truly love them and treat them like the treasures they are. Don’t wear them during cooking, cleaning, working out (including Pilates or yoga!), wvvv and sports, etc. If you bump your hand, take a moment to check your ring over. Marriage Licenses BY LINDSAY GOWER It’s the must-have accessory for every bride: A Marriage License! So let’s review the basics you need to know about getting licensed to wed. Getting the License Both bride and groom must go, in person together, to a County Clerk’s office. In California, you can go to the Clerk’s Office in any county; it does not need to be the county in which you are having the wedding. Neither of you needs to be a California resident to apply for a California marriage license. No blood test or medical exam is required and there is no waiting period: You apply, pay, and receive the license then and there. You both must: • Be at least 18 years old. If you’re younger, you need consent of parent or guardian. • Bring a government- issued valid picture ID (such as a driver’s license) that includes your full legal name and date of birth. • If you have been married before, bring Proof of Dissolution. You cannot apply for a marriage license if you are married, even if your divorce is almost final. What to Do With the License You receive an unsigned license. Here’s what makes it an official wedding certificate: • Get married within 90 days of the date the license is issued! • Before the wedding, give the license to the person who’ll officiate at the ceremony. The officiant is required to review the license before conducting the ceremony. It’s a good idea to bring it to the rehearsal for go over it with the officiant, and of course bring it to the wedding. • After the ceremony, the officiant will complete and sign the license, and have it signed by bride, groom, and at least one witness. • The officiant will return the license to the County Clerk’s office within 10 days of the ceremony, so it can be officially recorded. Once recorded, you can buy a copy of your wedding certificate (depending on the county, you don’t receive one automatically).
IN LOS ANGELES, YOU CAN APPLY FOR A MARRIAGE LICENSE ONLINE. IT’S EASY AND SAVES TIME! Once you complete the online application you can come to the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk headquarters in Norwalk or go to any one of our branch offices to pick up your marriage license, pay the license fee, and arrange for a civil marriage ceremony, if desired. Call or visit any of the branches listed below for further details. The Soundtrack to Your Life By: Eric Jay - President of Soli Studios Music, Inc.
Your wedding day is you and your spouse’s first, most public and forever memorable expression of your love for one another. Every little detail from the colors of the flowers and fabrics to the perfect location and date, you strive to make sure it is all exactly perfect in how it speaks to your guests and expresses your love and commitment. All of this seems manageable enough, until you get to the music. Lot’s of questions arise. What is the best style of music for my wedding? Should I just have the DJ start and stop a CD? Do I want to walk down the aisle to a pre-recorded song, or would live music express what I want better? What kinds of instruments should I have play? Where can I find musicians to play what I want? “Where words fail, music speaks.” Hans Christian Andersen couldn’t be more right! Of all the preparations you have made for your wedding day, no other element will bring more joy and celebration, or express the often speechless love you have with your spouse more eloquently than the accompaniment of professional live music. Imagine - as your guests arrive they are serenaded by the ethereal sounds of a
So many brides have no idea what they are missing out on when they allow the DJ to try and express through music what only live professional musicians are able to provide. harpist, or the relaxing background melodies of the piano. With anticipation at its peak, the string quartet fills the air with the announcement that the ceremony is beginning. The quartet continues to narrate the story of your love as the parents, bridesmaids and flower girls process down the aisle. The quartet then quietly resolves their last note, and
after a moment of silent excitement, three sterling silver trumpets herald your guests to their feet and announce the entrance of the beautiful bride. As you walk down the aisle toward the love of your life, the harp, piano, trumpets and strings perfectly play the special songs you have picked for this once in a lifetime journey. As the ceremony ends, the music crescendos to celebrate your new life together and you recess out and into your new life. Your guests continue to be entertained during the cocktail hour by the sounds of the piano, trumpet and violin player who now have your guests smiling to the sounds of Frank Sinatra, Broadway, Pop/Jazz and all the special requests you’ve made. Finally, before the party begins with the thump of the DJ’s speakers, the string quartet provides the perfect mood music as your guests enjoy dinner with the new bride and groom. So many brides have no idea what they are missing out on when they allow the DJ to try and express through music what only live professional musicians are able to provide. Here at Soli Entertainment, we are all established music industry professionals. From traditional classical weddings in the chapel, to rock-weddings in a warehouse, to everything in between, Soli Entertainment provides you with the best of any kind or style of musicians, bands, DJ’s and live music entertainment for your special event. So much goes into ensuring your wedding music is perfect: acoustics of the venue, the right instruments for the genre of music you want, the best musicians for the job, coordinating with the wedding planner, and more. After 10 years of providing the finest live music entertainment around, Soli Entertainment does it all, magnificently.
