WELCOME TO THE 55TH ANACORTES ARTS FESTIVAL

F

or 55 years, the Anacortes Arts Festival has created a fun, vibrant place for artists to bring their work to our community and our visitors. There is a great sense of pride that our Board, Staff and Volunteers have in being able to celebrate art and creativity with you. We are proud of so many things, such as… • Long-time friends in some of our booth artisans • More than 50 new booth artisans this year • A highly regarded fine art show • That we are able to fund art in our schools and many other art programs and organizations through this Festival • Wonderful partnerships with local organizations in the youth area • A place for young artists to showcase and sell their work in our Emerging Artists Area • A showcase of amazing working artists in the Working Studios area • There is FREE music on three stages with something for everyone • Almost 250 volunteers, most who have been volunteering for many years • Our year-round involvement in community events

As you walk through the streets of beautiful, friendly Anacortes, know that we’ve created this event as a gathering place for fun. Smiles on faces, being delighted at finding a new treasure, toe-tapping to music and joyful play…those are the things that we strive for as we plan each Festival. Sometimes the weather is a little hot, sometimes too many people brought their dogs, and sometimes it is a little crowded. If you find yourself in any of these situations, I hope that you can pause, look around and see the hard-working artists, talented musicians, giggling children and grateful community and remember that you came to the Festival to have fun. It’s around every corner with the art, the music, the food, the activities - you don’t have to look far to find joy in downtown Anacortes during the Anacortes Arts Festival. Relax, smile, dance, shop, enjoy and experience everything that these three days have to offer. With Pride, Meredith McIlmoyle Festival Director

Festival Dates: August 5 - 7, 2016

VOLUNTEERS

takes an army of Ithighly dedicated

volunteers to help make our Festival weekend run smoothly. The Festival has approximately 250 volunteers helping over the course of three days. We have people working as art docents during the Fine Art Show, manning the information booth, delivering lunches for all of our booth vendors, booth sitting when artists need a break, working in the beer and wine gardens, plus so much more! Volunteers are the heart of our organization and we are fortunate to have so many community members willing to give of their time to welcome visitors and support our efforts. Our new online signup makes it easy to get involved.

Volunteer(s) of the Year

Last August, we chose Jim and Terry MacDonald as our Volunteers of the Year. This husband and wife duo have been volunteering with the Festival for several years, with their involvement growing each year. They have designed and produced our light display at the December Winter Wonderland, helped with fine art installation, and been invaluable with our April Art in Bloom events. Terry and Jim give an incredible amount of time to the Festival and have an infectious positive energy that they bring to every project they are involved with. Please join us in recognizing and celebrating the MacDonalds as Volunteers of the Year!
