Collective Impact Uniting the community to advance the common good Financial Empowerment Center (FEC): Financial instability is often the root cause for many families seeking social services. The FEC pilot program will utilize a peer-to-peer model that changes attitudes first, then behaviors using trained peer mentors. Partners from the Skagit Asset Building Coalition are participating. United Way funds the coordinator bringing these efforts together.
Early Learning Coordinator: Initiated last year as a partnership between United Way of Skagit County and the Children’s Council of Skagit County, an Early Learning Coordinator was funded for Skagit County: Lyndie Case. One outcome is the Connections Conference, an all-day workshop series training early learning providers. Our goal: all Skagit County children start life with a solid foundation for success in school and in life.
Ignite your Mind: Repurposing a decommissioned fire engine donated by the Burlington Fire Department to the Children’s Museum, United Way, Leadership Skagit, and the Children’s Council are outfitting the vehicle to bring proven early learning tools to children and parents. This will enable parents to be their children’s first and best teachers.

Youth United
Youth United: Varsity in Volunteerism A high school program that encourages students to become stewards of their community, now and into the future, making Skagit County a better place for all. Youth United students who volunteer at least 100 hours during the school year earn a varsity letter. Guided by coaches, the Youth United students engage in community improvement projects, strengthening their communities and themselves.
Burlington-Edison Youth United students have accumulated over 1,600 volunteer hours this year; an estimated 15 students will be receiving a varsity letter. One of their more notable projects was a collaboration with Key club and West View Elementary to gather donations of school sup-plies to be distributed to students in need in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Concrete may be a small town, but its students are making a big impact. They have accumulated over 350 hours of volunteer hours to date, with 7 students on pace to receive varsity letters. They have been working with city planners creating bike trails for the community in the local forest land.
Sedro-Woolley Youth United anticipates 35 students earning their letter in volunteering, as the group has logged over 3,700 volunteer hours. The Sedro-Woolley students have spent many hours working with Skagit fisheries helping to preserve existing habitats of salmon by planting trees along the river to reduce run off and slow bank erosion.

Skagit Legacy
Skagit Legacy: United Way of Skagit County Planned Giving Program
As our community changes, United Way is changing the way we approach challenges to get to the root causes before they become crises. This takes significant work. United Way invites you to impact the future by making a significant gift. Your contribution to Skagit Legacy will continue to have real impact to address the changing needs of our community. Planned Giving is a donor service that enables donors to give gifts of assets. It provides enhanced tax benefits-donors choose the timing of the gift (now or later). It’s another way to support the United Way mission. Generally, there are three types of planned gifts including examples of each: A Gift That Helps Today: Stock and real estate A Gift That Helps Tomorrow: Provisions for United Way in a will, trust or life insurance Gifts That Provide An Income: Charitable gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts You have the power to advance the common good well into the future!
