Featured Businesses Judd & Black F

or over 75 years and three generations, Judd & Black has built a reputation as a hometown appliance and barbeque store; it has been voted #1 appliance store time and time again. The business is independent, locally owned and family operated with six locations serving Snohomish, Skagit, Whatcom, Island, and San Juan Counties. The company has prided itself on great selection, low prices and unmatched service before and after the sale since its foundation. Judd & Black has the only union factory trained and certified appliance technicians in Washington state; they promise to keep your appliances running well with prompt, professional service. Judd & Black also has a large parts department with tens of thousands of parts to ensure they have the part you need. Said Marketing Director Rachael Sylte, “It was a big step for us to open a store is Skagit County after having locations only in Snohomish for almost 70 years. Skagitonians welcomed us and trusted us in their homes almost immediately. Their reception blew us away. While many of our employees have called this area home their entire lives, Judd & Black as a company is grateful to have found a home here, too.”

Skagit County Businesses Extending from the Puget Sound to the North Cascades, Skagit County prides itself on a high quality of life because of its reasonable cost of living, business-friendly environment and stunning natural beauty. The county has a quality education system and skilled workforce that allow it to house the Pacific Northwest’s major advanced manufacturing and information technology industry centers. Many family wage jobs are found in refineries, aerospace manufacturers, shipbuilding/repair, engineering and other manufacturing work. Skagit County is home to the fertile valley of the Skagit River which boasts a thriving agricultural industry that has sustained the region for generations; today farmers harvest more than 100 crops. Top crops include the number one tulip production of any U.S. county, daffodils, strawberries,

potatoes and vegetable seeds. With growing conditions similar to France’s Loire Valley and the Northern Rhine Valley of Germany, Skagit County is home to an increasing number of wineries and breweries who use locally grown barley and fruit. The county has nine micro-breweries and 10 wineries. Family friendly farms dot the county; providing opportunities for fun and food to local restaurants with a farm-to-table concept. By 2013, more than 40 organic farms on 6,700 acres were generating more than $14 million in sales¹. In 2015, agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting accounted for 4.5 percent of Skagit County’s GDP². ¹Source: https://issuu.com/skagitpublishing/docs/sv-2017-sv-visitorsguide_2455397868de61 ² Source: https://fortress.wa.gov/esd/employmentdata/reports-publications/ regional-reports/county-profiles/skagit-county-profile
