www.randylinder.com Main Stage: Wednesday, August 8th, 2:45 p.m. & 6:15 p.m. Community Stage: Wednesday, August 8th, 12:00 p.m. Randy Linder has been in the music business since 1968 but his tribute to Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) and a selection of John Fogerty’s solo hits has entertained audiences from California to New York and beyond since the year 2000. Randy’s authenticity shines through with the visual resemblance, the voice, the lead guitar style and even the rockin’ blues harp played by John Fogerty in some of those early CCR hits.
Blue Mariah Band
www.bluemariahband.com Main Stage: Friday, August 10th, 4:15 p.m. Community Stage: Friday, August 10th, 6:30 p.m. A sought after Pacific Northwest highenergy rock band, the fair is proud to welcome the Blue Mariah Band to the 2018 line-up! Cheryl, a Northwest native, toured with her sister Teri Arnold as The Arnold Sisters for five years along with her mentor, the incomparable Miss Bonnie Guitar. After five years touring as the Arnold sisters, Cheryl struck out on her own and formed the Blue Mariah Band with her husband, Mike Stipek.
Joe Cook Blues Band

Then about 10 years ago, Joe Cook moved his family to Seattle where he started from scratch by going to local blues jam sessions. There he met and teamed up with some of this area’s hottest blues players; we are looking forward to hearing him rip on the harmonica at the Skagit County Fair.
Sunday Speedtrap
www.sundayspeedtrap.com Main Stage: Wednesday, August 8th, 11:00 a.m. Community Stage: Wednesday, August 8th, 2:00 p.m. Chris Eric has been an alternative country singer/songwriter known as Sunday Speedtrap since 1994. With over 1,415 shows throughout Washington and Oregon and 13 independent records under his belt, Chris loves throwing cover songs from the 50’s to 80’s into his sets and specializes in anything from the Beatles to Def Lepaard.
The Ryders Band
www.therydersband.com Main Stage: Saturday, August 11th, 4:00 p.m. Welcome The Ryders Band to this year’s Skagit County Fair! The Ryders will be performing a mixture of bluegrass, folk, country, rock ’n roll, old-time and other forms of Americana. The Skagit County Fair would like to thank Monique Brigham owner of Plumeria Breezes Travel and event lead for the Relay for Life of Skagit County - for volunteering to run the 2018 community stage. Said Monique, “I work with some amazing volunteers to put on events all year long to highlight our relay, the programs it supports in our area and…celebrating our cancer survivors. I would love to thank the community for helping us surpass our 2018 fundraising goal and challenge them to become Road to Recovery Drivers. I got involved with the Skagit County Fair because I knew it would be a great event to spread the word about the Relay For Life and I just love music and festivals; it brings back memories of my Uncle John.”

4-H & FFA at the Fair The Skagit County Fair has a long and proud history of partnering with local 4-H and FFA club members who come to share and showcase their skills and talents. Many kids participate in both programs; the FFA in school and the 4-H all year long. The clubs share common themes: hands on learning, community spirit, sciences, arts, and agriculture. Don’t miss the Skagit Junior Livestock Show in the pavilion on Friday, August 10th, at 6:00 p.m.; market animals raised by FFA students and 4-H club members will be for sale by auction. Stop by the Events office before the auction and get a Bidder number. Participants must be in grades three to twelve and from Skagit or Snohomish counties. The kids show the market animal that they raised through their project. The projects are local, well cared for and managed by the students. Students are taught to treat and care for their animals with a high ethical
standard of care. The livestock sold includes steers, lambs, hogs, meat goats and meat poultry and rabbits. Students are judged on Showmanship also known as Fitting and Showing, which is a 4-H requirement for any animal project. The exhibitor is judged on how well he or she exhibits the animal to its best advantage, with additional scoring for the grooming and presentation of both animal and handler. Type classes represent a breed or “type” of animal in a particular project. A Round Robin is a crowd favorite where a showman from each division shows large and small animals from other divisions. Speed Events in the horse arena include Poles, Key, International Flags, Figure 8 and Barrels. Equitation classes are judged on the rider’s position and ability to ride correctly with effective communication aids.

4-H & FFA at the Fair 4-H Youth Program
The 4-H youth program is volunteer-driven and community-based, it was started at the beginning of the 20th century to ensure the future of rural youth. It consists of a community of more than six million members from ages nine through 19 and 60 million alumni from across America. The clubs emphasize learning, leadership, life skills, healthy living, citizenship and science through classes, hands-on projects, and community service. Students can choose from a variety of projects in the areas of technology, human sciences, large and small animals, science and engineering, natural resources, and citizenship and leadership. Beyond the excitement of learning something new through a project, youth have the opportunity to participate in leadership conferences, travel the world, become involved in their community through service, develop healthy youth/adult partnerships and meet new friends in a safe and comfortable setting. In Skagit County, 400 youth are organized into 26 clubs and mentored by 90 adult volunteer leaders. Children join 4-H by choosing a 4-H club; visiting with leaders and members at the fair is a great way to find a good fit for an individual’s interests. 4-H members can compete with their projects in contests at the local, state, regional, or national levels and also attend conferences and events. 4-H has four Essential Elements: Belonging, Generosity, Mastery and Independence. These topics give youth a safe place to “Learn as they Do,” generate positive youth/adult partnerships, and feel a part of a bigger community. The 4-H motto is “Making the Best Better.” You will see these values reflected in the children when you take time to visit and talk with 4-H members at the fair. Says Dorothy Elsner WSU Extension Skagit County 4-H Program Coordinator, “4-H thrives in Skagit County due to incredible support from the Skagit County community. The generosity of our community enables

Skagit County 4-H to continue our mission in raising responsible, thoughtful and generous leaders for our future.” Dorothy participated in 4-H Clubs in her youth and says that, “…it was truly what motivated me to go to college and start a life of 4-H activity. My daughters were Skagit County 4-H members as well and my husband and I volunteered for many years.” The certified and trained adult volunteers contribute so much to our youth with their time, knowledge and passion for giving youth a safe place to learn and grow. This year Skagit County 4-H is fundraising to support a 4-H Interstate program with Rensselaer County in upstate New York, by the time of the fair our county will have hosted 20 4-H members and 3 chaperones. Our county showed them the PNW with a spin on The Great Wheel in Seattle, a trip to Newhalem, a ferry ride to San Juan Islands, a night at the SedroWoolley rodeo and just time getting to know their host families. Skagit County is traveling to New York in July next year to experience that part of our country and learn about 4-H.
4-H Exhibits and Contests
The 4-H building (Building A) is full of interesting still-life exhibits and 4-H in Action demonstrations. This year Building C will house the dog project and show ring, dog projects show in obedience and agility through an obstacle course; handlers work with dogs both on and off leash. The Pavilion barn is the home of livestock projects; Dairy, Beef and Swine along with an exhibition of Shooting Sports. Goats and Sheep are housed and shown across the fairgrounds in Building F. juggling, teeter-boards, high wire, flying trapeze, fire and aerial acts. WYC has no animal acts. Said WYC Vice President Manoah Winter, “We love nothing more than performing for an appreciative audience and we are looking forward to putting smiles on faces at the Skagit County Fair. We started as an after school-tumbling club and have since grown into a traveling circus complete with professional-level aerial acts... Our mission has always been to provide a place where any child can thrive while spreading joy to the communities we visit. Participating in Circus is hard work and a lot of fun; circus kids develop performance skills as well as a great work ethic, perseverance, cooperation and self-esteem. And we put on a fantastic show that every member of the family will enjoy! We are a non-profit organization driven by the efforts of volunteers, and our goal each year is to give our performers a full summer of circus experience while promoting charitable causes. Last year we raised over $1,500 to help local fire victims and recently raised funds for Ladybug House for terminally ill children in Seattle. We can’t guarantee that kids who see us perform won’t run away and join the circus, but we do promise to take good care of them and return them in the fall.” Over the past 66 years the circus has played
to crowds with up to 1,000 with audiences totaling over two million people in the western states from California to Alaska and in Canada as well, averaging 12,000 miles a year. The performers work year-round to perfect their acts and wow the crowd of circus lovers from small children to the elderly. The kids cross train with other youth circus organizations, such as the Sarasota Youth Circus in Florida. WYC alumni have gone on to professional circuses, including the Wallenda Family, the Joseph Ashton Family Circus in Australia, Ringling Brothers, and Cirque du Soleil.

Featured Musicians Lemon Creek (Celebrating Women of Rock) www.facebook.com/lemoncreekrock Main stage: Wednesday, August 8th, 7:30 p.m.
Formed in 2017, Lemon Creek is a rock/pop band from Bellingham, Washington. The group performs songs from five decades of rock and pop—from Fleetwood Mac, The Pretenders, and Joan Osbourne; to Alanis Morissette, Garbage, Lady Gaga, Blondie, No Doubt and Katy Perry—with some fun and exciting detours along the way. Said guitarist Mike Rostron, “The whole band…feels that women rockers have been consistently underrepresented by radio stations and cover bands and with the recent movement empowering women to get fair treatment in the arts, we felt it was a good time to give these creative women their due. For our show at the fair we will perform songs from a wide range of women rockers, focusing on songs from the 80’s, 90’s and early 2000’s. You’ll want to dance!” This will be Lemon Creek’s first time performing at the Skagit County Fair. Said Mike, “We love the Skagit Fair! It’s just the right size—not overwhelming, but plenty to see and do—and of course the stage is fantastic, and the audiences enthusiastic.” Band members: Lesley Rostron on lead vocals, keyboard and guitar; Jon Grover on drums & backing vocals; Doug Hyldahl on bass guitar; Michael Harris (formerly of Idiot Pilot) on guitar and vocals; and Mike Rostron on guitar, keyboards & vocals plus acts as the booking agent. All members have played together in various combinations in previous bands.

The Springmans
www.myhappybeach.com Community Stage: Saturday, August 11th, 2:00 p.m., 6:30 p.m. Roving performances: Wednesday – Saturday, All Day.
Look out for the group in fun, matching accessories like oversized Mexican sombreros! Get ready for Aloha style family fun with The Springmans; it’s kids music that grown-ups will love too! From Aldergrove, B.C., this award-winning, ukulele-strumming musical group is made up of proud dad, Perry Springman, and his four talented kids: Emma, 14, Ryan,11, Sarah, 9, and Jacob, 7. Wife and mother, Julia Springman plays an extremely important role in the band: she homeschools their children on the road and at home as they perform at over 100 venues annually! The family spends about a month each year playing concerts in the Hawaiian Islands and they are lining up venues for a U.S. fall/winter tour in Florida, Texas, Minnesota, California, Oregon, and Washington State. The group is also planning another European tour in the new year. Said percussionist Jacob, “I am excited about coming to the fair because Daddy said that we are going to camp there too! I love camping with my family! And, playing at fairs is fun because there is always so much to see and do there! Am I big enough to go on the Ferris wheel?” Since the 2016 launch of their first children’s album, Happy Beach, under Perry’s name, the family band has rebranded as The Springmans. Full of
upbeat, original songs like “Chimichanga,” “Unh Uh No Way,” “Bouncy Bouncy” and “The 3 Minute Clean-up,” Happy Beach received a National Parenting Products Award and a Canadian Covenant Award for “Best Children’s Album of the Year” and was recommended by the Parents’ Choice Foundation as “a likeable collection celebrating kindness, appreciation, family and gratitude.” Come join The Springmans on “a happy beach”!
