WELCOME TO THE 56TH ANACORTES ARTS FESTIVAL
E
very summer, beautiful Anacortes welcomes visitors from all over the world to the Anacortes Arts Festival, a three-day celebration of art, music and food.
•
If you have never been to our Festival, we think you will be delighted to find amazing artists, fun entertainment and lots of great food and beverages to satisfy your cravings. If you’ve been coming for years, thank you, and I invite you to watch for these new or possibly new-to-you things as you wander the Festival:
The local businesses are proud to showcase our downtown community. We are grateful for our visitors, artists and all of our volunteers, who make this weekend the incredible celebration that it is. It might take you all three days to explore almost 300 booths, a fine art show, three stages, four beer gardens, a youth area and all of the restaurants and businesses ready to greet you.
•
Watch for some really interesting new booth artisans. There are more than 50 new booths, plus many of our long-time favorites for you to explore and shop.
•
While you are at Arts at the Port, make sure to take in the works of this year’s Emerging Artists. Our Fine Art Committee is working with four incredibly talented young artists to select their best body of work, as they make their regional art show debut.
•
When hunger strikes you at the Festival, you have some great food options. And, this year, don’t miss a stop at Food Truck Alley. With five trucks featuring gourmet to comfort food, you will surely find something to tickle your taste buds!
•
We are bringing the beach onto Commercial Avenue with world-class sand sculpting demonstrations. You’ll find these talented sand artists in our Working Studios.
In addition to really great new entertainers this year, don’t miss some of our favorite, incredibly talented locals including John Van Deusen, Old Town Tonic and Madison Campbell.
Just in case you are familiar with the Festival, but maybe not the behind-the-scenes of this weekend…we are a non-profit organization and every year, more than $60,000 generated by the Festival goes back into art programs in our schools and community. Thank you for joining us. Thank you for helping us celebrate art. Thank you for helping us grow our giving, so we can continue to support vibrant art programs year-round. With much appreciation, Meredith McIlmoyle Festival Director

WORKING STUDIOS HIGHLIGHTS
Sand Sculptor Bert Adams founded Sand in the City in 1993. He is primarily a contest
organizer and teacher, who has started more competitions than anyone in the world. With a demanding schedule, Bert welcomes the opportunity to put organization aside and just sculpt. Come watch a large-scale sand sculpture take shape over the Festival and see the process of this unique art.
PIANO-cortes is an exciting public art/music project in its second year. Pianos are painted by artists or teams of artists during the Festival, and then placed downtown for the month of August for public use. Teams include Anacortes High School art students (and teacher Carl Delutri), local artist Carla Seaton, and returning team Beth Smith, Molly Johnson and Wyndham Jackson.

2017 Festival Mural
Sean Dietrich is creating the 2017 Festival Mural. Sean is an Anacortes artist with an illustrious background. He has illustrated 14 books, worked on video graphics, and live-painted at over 4,000 events nationwide. This year’s mural, a figurative design with a nautical twist, will be placed on the Fidalgo Dance Works building on 3rd St.

Volunteer of the Year
We are proud to honor Paul Monohon as our Volunteer of the Year. Paul has been volunteering with the Festival for seven years and continues to find new ways of
getting involved. He always shows up with a smile and asks how he can help. Paul has worked as an Art Docent, Booth Sitter, distributed posters in town and as traffic control during the Art Dash. His positive energy and enthusiasm are contagious!
Can be seen at Salt & Vine 913 6th Street, Anacortes and skyislandart.com The artists of the Sky Island Cooperative utilize their varied talents with many media to create the contemporary art you see here. These pieces are inspired by the complimentary or contrasting nature of the various materials and media. Color, tone, texture and finishes are selected to make each piece unique and more than the sum of its parts.
