Whether you choose to celebrate with us for one day, three days or just a few hours, you are certain to find your happy place at the Festival. Every street and every corner offer a special treasure from one of our booth artists, fine art to appreciate, cuisine to tempt your taste buds, music to delight your ears and experiences that are unique to the Anacortes Arts Festival.

Your purchases this weekend help us support yearround art programs in our schools and our community. The Anacortes Arts Festival’s Giving Back Program funds over $50,000 annually in youth arts education, enrichment and public art procurement. Thank you for joining us. Thank you for helping us celebrate art. Thank you for helping us grow our giving, so we can continue to support vibrant art programs year-round. With much appreciation, Meredith McIlmoyle Festival Director

In addition to finding your favorite booth artist on Commercial Avenue, make sure to catch these highlights: • A stop at the Arts at the Port Fine Art Show will have you celebrating the amazing talent of our regional artists. Including Skagit Valley’s own Robert McCauley, Shelley Muzylowski, Rik Allen and Lanny Bergner in the Allen Family Focus Gallery. • The Hideout Bar, Waterfront Pub and Reunion Wine Bar are perfect settings to take a break from your shopping, catch up with friends and enjoy a cold beverage. We are honored to announce a new partnership with Maryhill Winery in the Reunion Wine Bar. You are sure to enjoy our extensive offerings of their amazing, Washington wines. • In the Working Studios area, be sure to take a few minutes to watch nationally known face and body paint artist, Dutch Bihary, as he creates living images all weekend. • We are proud to have the stunning “Seven Salmon Swimming” image, by Dona Reed, as our Festival image this year. It looks fabulous on the t-shirts, posters, canvas bags and more. Visit the Information Booth at 5th & Commercial to pick your perfect festival souvenir.

Arts at the Port

About our Juror Michael Monroe, Seattle, has been involved with the contemporary American studio craft movement for over 50 years. In addition to his current status as Director Emeritus of the Bellevue Art Museum, Monroe served as Executive Director of the American Craft Council and Curator at the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Renwick Gallery. He worked with President and Mrs Clinton to curate a collection of contemporary American craft for the White House - and on several related assignments for Presidents Carter and Bush.

Allen Family Focus Gallery – “Animalia” The Allen Family Focus Gallery features the work of four Skagit Valley artists who have national and international recognition for their work. Robert McCauley – Painter McCauley has created a mode of realism that is haunting and full of ambiguity. His distinctive animals manage to seem literal and symbolic at the same time and the viewer is suspended between these realms.

Shelley Muzylowski Allen – Muzylowski Allen sculpts glass animal forms that capture tension in movement and recall the connections between humans and the animal kingdom. Striving to bring a painterly quality to her dynamic medium, she layers color to add depth to the sculpture being made.

Rik Allen – Allen’s glass spacecraft, rockets, and scientific apparatus are well known in the glass world. For this show he is collaborating with Lanny Bergner to create mixed media creatures with both the translucency and fluidity of glass and the structured forms of Stainless steel mesh. Lanny Bergner – Berger is a mixed media artist who uses metal mesh to create organic forms and vessels and a process of “painting” on mesh with torch flame. In working with Rik Allen, he creates the skeletal structure through which Allen blows glass.

Festival Food Island Eatery at 3rd Street | Food Truck Alley at 6th Street The Festival has TWO main areas to find food. Food trucks are offering creative and often more healthy “foodie” menus in Food Truck Alley on 6th Street. Our Island Eatery Food Court is located north of the Main Stage on 3rd St. It includes a family dining area & a tasty variety of regional and ethnic choices – plus goodies.

Beer/Wine Gardens Our Beer and Wine Gardens offer a great place to relax and listen to music. Each location has its own identity and features a combination of beer, wine and cocktails. Hideout Bar – 3rd St - the main Festival beer garden features micro-brews, wine and margaritas.

Reunion Wine Bar – 10th St. – a lineup of regional varietals from Maryhill Winery and beer.

Waterfront Pub – Port Transit Shed dock – beer & wine plus Margaritas, Bloody Marys and signature vodka cocktails. The Festival is doing its part to be environmentally responsible with a recycling program sponsored by Shell Refinery. Please help us limit our waste by using the correct bins when discarding your trash.

val weekend run smoothly. We have more than 250 volunteers helping over the course of three days. We have people working as art docents at the fine art show, manning the information booth, delivering lunches to our booth vendors, booth sitting when artists need a break, working in the beer and wine gardens … plus so much more! Volunteers are the heart of our organization and we are fortunate to have so many community members excited to give of their time to wel-

come visitors and support our efforts. Our new online signup makes it easy to get involved.

After the run, participants can enjoy our Port activities including food, music, the Waterfront Pub, and Fine Art Exhibition…plus the rest of the Festival. Come for the run, stay for the fun.

Volunteer Highlight Two of our volunteers – Michelle Johnson and Cindy Maier – love the Festival SO MUCH that they have been coming to Anacortes every year for over a decade to volunteer. Driving all the way from Driggs and Boise, Idaho, they show up just in time to help with Thursday evening setup – then continue their work into the weekend when they help with lunch delivery to booth artisans. While they’re here, they also prove to be pretty good shoppers at the Festival!
