best new business Hottie Tottie Deli

Hottie Tottie Deli opened in Sedro-Woolley under new ownership in May and ascended to the People’s Choice for Best New Business of 2010. The breakfast and lunch spot undoubtedly has a loyal customer base to thank. It could also take some credit with the owner’s decision to prepare everything in-house. “Nothing’s out of a can. Nothing’s out of a box,” as owner Kerrie Thomas put it. A dedicated staff — well, mainly employee Jackie Bray — helped things along by carrying menus outside the eatery and pressing them into the hands of passers-by. Located on Metcalf Street midway between the downtown core and City Hall, Hottie Tottie draws from just about everyone in Sedro-Woolley’s working class. “We get a lot of Janicki, City Hall, banks, car dealerships,” Thomas went down the list. Customers especially like the Tottie Turkey Club and the Reuben — a recent addition to the menu after a popular three-day run on the special board. They also like the coffee, from Whidbey Coffee. “It will turn you into a coffee snob, it’s so good,” Thomas said.
