November 2015
An Open and Affirming Congregation
INTERIM GATHERING OF THE CONGREGATION Sunday, November 15
WHAT SPICE ARE YOU? Covenant Pledge Sunday November 22 The apostle Paul writes about the church as a body with different parts working together. I sometimes think of the church as an orchestra made up of different instruments making beautiful music and harmony together. I also like to think of the church as a culinary experience since God feeds us at the banquet table, each of us a spice in the recipe of the church.
Giving has always been a spiritual practice, and most of us church goers have been giving people both in finances and gifts and talents. In the last some years however Americans are giving more to charities than to churches. What kind of impact would that have for the future of the church? What are other giving trends in churches? How has giving changed in congregations? And where are we at St John financially and in giving patterns? Come and learn on Sunday, November 15 following morning worship, enjoy some baklava and be part of the interim transitional journey.
This year you are invited to reflect on what spice you are in the recipe of the church and what spice St John is in Freeport. Then prayerfully consider your financial gift to the church for 2016 when we will welcome a new pastor and begin a new journey toward a bright future.
PIE BAKING for THANKSGIVING CELEBRATION Fellowship Ministry will be taking orders for 3 kinds of pies for your Thanksgiving celebration the first 2 weeks in November. A sign up sheet is on the bulletin board.
Please bring your financial covenant pledge along on November 22 and join us for worship. Pastor Nayiri
