OUR STORY

R. Paen Construction (RPC) is a full-service construction company, focused on delivering high quality, efficient and sustainable design - serving residential and commercial clients throughout DC, Maryland and Virginia.

Building on his 25 years of combined experience in residential and commercial construction, company founder Rigens Paen set out to create a company that reflected his keen attention to the foundational elements of quality design, while holding ‘client expectation’ as a critical measure for overall success.

With an expansive background featuring base-building work on the $853 million-dollar Washington DC Convention Center project, or current $20MM+ portfolio mix of full demolitions, renovations, remodels and custom builds, RPC has transcended its humble beginnings serving its dozen or so clients, to serving a quickly growing, loyal community built on the quality of past projects and strong referrals.

After just five years in business, RPC has quickly become a reputable name in the industry known for its integrity, superior craftsmanship and quality design. Through our work with global clients like Mastercard, Facebook and Citibankto overseeing renovation and infrastructure projects in both residential and professional communities across Greater Washington, R. THE RPC TEAM

PRINCIPAL

– Rigens Paen brings over 25 years’ experience in full-cycle construction - responsible for aligning strategy, operations and technical resources to deliver consistent, quality results on each client engagement. Mr. Paen leverages a diverse portfolio of knowledge managing dozens of building/ renovation projects and successful design solutions to achieve measurable and predictable project outcomes.

ENGINEER

– Provides onsite technical support to all aspects of the construction project including designing, planning an d supervision in accordance with projects plans, specifications, and applicable safety regulations. As part of RPC’s commitment to delivering client expectations, our RPC Engineers closely monitor and inspect all features impacting performance including materials, equipment and labor.

FIELD SUPERINTENDENT (FS)

– Our designated liaison for day-to-day onsite operations on construction site to ensure the project completes on time, on budget, and on par with RPC’s established quality standards. The Field Superintendent supervises and coordinates the work of other construction staff and subcontractors, monitoring the project’s progress, and troubleshooting problems that arise. In this role the FS maintains required construction site safety protocols and procedures for all assigned work - maintaining records of all construction activities, materials, and labor hours for proper tracking and accounting.

PROJECT MANAGER

– All RPC projects maintain keen focus on the client’s desired goal. To achieve this, our PMs are tasked with identifying, documenting, and tracking established project objectives and milestones. This includes maintaining ongoing communication flow between all essential parties from assigned subcontractors, vendors and internal work teams to client stakeholders. Our Project Managers are responsible for monitoring defined budgets, materials, timeline requirements and mitigating potential risks from inevitable material shortages to scope creep. Based on the project, our assigned PM will leverage our proprietary quality management tools and resources to ensure projects conform to RPC’s established quality and efficiency guidelines.

BUSINESS & CONTRACTS MANAGER (BCM)

– Provides detailed and complete accounting of all critical components within assigned projects to ensure fully transparent, timely and complete deliverables - from standard & adhoc status reports, estimates, contracts, proposals and invoices. Our BCM addresses all service inquiries or concerns along all phases of project from pre-planning to questions, service issues or concerns. This ensures all required paperwork is successfully documented and properly filed for an accurate and consistent record of entire project from start to finish.

Our company was founded on the foundational principle of bringing our client’s expectations to life. Every residential project is an opportunity to deliver on that promise – one space at a time. We handle all aspects of the construction process including foundation preparation, utilities installation, framing, roughin work, building permits and compliance. Each project is backed by RPC’s rigorous quality design standards which considers client budget, project timetable and defined project goals.

COMMERCIAL

R Paen Construction specializes in managing scalable commercial projects with an emphasis on quality construction, engineering, and design. We manage several critical components in the construction process from feasibility studies and effective prep & planning – to budget and scope management. Our team’s diverse portfolio includes leading a $846 milliondollar project at a major DC landmark, along with similar million-dollar builds for professional, medical and other workspaces.

CUSTOM DESIGN

Each RPC custom project delivers an elevated, unique style that exceeds our clients’ needs for functional, aesthetic, timeless design. We provide a full range of Millwork and premium woodworking services including custom and prefabricated cabinetry, countertops and hardware, doors, windows, moldings, staircases, and flooring. Our portfolio scales from simple, personal designs –to commercial and complex featured in several multimillion dollar projects. Our design elements integrate seamlessly to enhance the overall design to ensure quality, longevity and durability.

PLANNING AND DESIGN:

The pre-planning and design phase is the most important step in the construction process. It is crucial to have a clear and detailed plan in place before any work begins. This includes determining the scope of the project, creating detailed drawings and specifications, and setting a budget and schedule. Having a detailed plan in place will help to ensure that the project runs smoothly and that the final result meets our client’s needs and expectations.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND COORDINATION:

During the renovation process, an RPC Project Manager oversees all areas of project including scheduling, coordination of the various trades, budgeting, and quality control. Over the years, this has translated to an efficient and transparent construction workflow from the initial planning stages to the final walk-through and closeout.

INSPECTION AND QUALITY CONTROL:

The renovation process involves multi-level stages – the most critical of these being implementing all applicable building codes and regulatory guidelines. This requires diligent inspections of multiple components - electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems, structural elements, and fire protection systems. Our entire onsite team is fully trained and versed in RPC’s quality management system to ensure all work adheres to the correct standards, and that the final product is safe, code-compliant, and meets serves the client’s needs.

FEATURED

MICROSOFT OFFICES RESTON, VA

One of our largest projects to date featured an office buildout and millwork for 3-floor, 20,000 square feet commercial workspace. Within 4.5 months, our team successfully designed, fabricated, and installed custom cabinetry, engineered wood plank, columns, and ceilings.

NURSING CONSULTANTS SILVER SPRING, MD

Complete 4-month remodel of 3,500 square-foot headquarters for medical staffing agency. The project expanded from its initial scope of 2-offices/1-conference room to include 4-offices, printer room, reception area, huddle room and full kitchen. This project was extremely rewarding as it tested our ability to adapt and still exceed client expectations despite widespread supply chain challenges amid the pandemic, along with significant material delays. It also required ongoing collaboration with technical vendor experts to install an intricate, high-end door locking/security system and glass design feature cutout in an existing wood door.

PROJECTS

EY SHARED OFFICE SPACE BALTIMORE, MD

9,000 square-foot construction of new building space in 2.5 months - created kitchen, mail room, multiple pantries, copy room, 30x30 training room with multiple mounted electronic devices, conference room, and wood panel in lobby. We also engineered a design solution for a 12-ft radius wall with paneling that still delivered structural integrity, quality standards and aesthetic design.
