Translation of the Latin text of Robert Fludds plate on consciousness.
Engraved and published by Matthew Merian, 1619.
I am not promoting a view that you may find the soul at specific anatomic spots but Fludd's work has always appealed to me, mainly thanks to the images and tables.
I was astonished when I realised that noone seems to have made a translation of the Latin plate texts. So here we go for a start. Please give me a notice if you have suggestions for improvements!
The interesting notion is Fludds perspective of the soul as coming forth from polarities:
- Sensitive-Imaginative
- Cognitive-Estimative
- Memory-Motion
... and the indication 'Hic est anima' ~ here is the soul/ this is the soul :-)
