Vancouver began to roll out the first 80 of the new kiosks last month, it became the first airport in the world to deploy its own common-use kiosk system for the airlines. Air Canada’s Express Check-in application is the launch customer for the airport’s CUSS system, and the Airport Authority expects several other airlines to add their check-in systems to the kiosks over the next few years. Later this year, the Airport Authority also plans to install some of

Advance Passenger Information Aids Customs Agents ince the beginning of October 2002, the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (CCRA) and Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) have been receiving Advance Passenger Information (API) on incoming international air travellers. In addition, implementation of Passenger Name Record (PNR) will be phased in over an 18-

month period. API is basic passenger information, including name, date of birth, citizenship and passport number. PNR is more detailed passenger information, including reservation data and the traveller’s itinerary. The collection of API/PNR data is specifically covered by the recently amended Customs Act (Royal
Assent – Oct. 25, 2001). Post September 11, the identification of travel patterns that can lead to the apprehension of terrorists and other threats to the security of Canadians has become critical for border officials. This information will be used by SEE ADVANCE INFORMATION, CONTINUED ON PAGE 4
