Vancouver, Halifax, Ottawa, Toronto, Edmonton and Calgary. “We are extremely excited about both our new Manchester flights and the overall doubling of our transatlantic service for Summer 2005, said Kris Dolinki, Zoom Airlines CEO. “These additions are a direct response to the exception-
al demand for the high quality, low-cost transatlantic flights we offer to the Canadian marketplace.” David Clements, the airline’s director of sales and marketing, said that Zoom has experienced a significant increase in bookings to Vancouver from UK travellers and tour opera-
tors this year. He expects the winter season from Dec 2004 to April 2005 to be just as busy. “The Vancouver ski market is more affordable from the UK with Zoom’s low-cost transatlantic flights,” said Clements. “Demand is strong and our Vancouver flights are the first to sell out.” SEE ZOOM, CONTINUED ON PAGE 2

fter a four-month, $50-million renovation project that included a 150-metre extension, electrical system upgrades and a new pavement overlay, YVR’s south runway is ready for take-off. “We could not have done it without the patience of our neighbours, the hard work of our contractors and the cooperation of our many business partners,” said Bob Cowan, senior vice president of engineering at Vancouver International Airport Authority. “The upgraded runway and completion of the engine run-up pad will enhance YVR’s position as a West Coast and premier global gateway, stimulating economic activity and ensuring British Columbia remains at the crossroads of international tourism, travel and trade.” Work on the south runway began June 11 and was largely completed during night-time hours to lessen the impact to flight operations, which are typically greater during the day.
