f you happened to see a buzz of activity on the south side of YVR on the morning of April 15, there was no

cause for alarm. The Airport Authority was simply testing emergency response plans with a live emergency exercise. More than 100 volunteers and multiple agencies participated in a scenario that involved a mid-air collision of two aircraft, in which one aircraft landed in the water and the other at the threshold of the crosswind runway. The scenario was selected to involve multiple airlines and as many responders as possible, including Canada Coast Guard, Richmond RCMP, Richmond Fire Rescue, Canada Border Services Agency and Vancouver Coastal Health Authority.
