Canada and Mexico expand Air Transport Agreement

Mexico is one of Canada’s closest friends and partners, with a 70-year history of excellent bilateral relations between the two countries.

Building on this, Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Enrique Peña Nieto, President of Mexico, witnessed the signing of an expanded Canada-Mexico Air Transport Agreement last month in Mexico.

The signing, by Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade, and Gerardo Ruiz Esparza, Mexican Secretary of Communications and Transport, is an important milestone in the ratification and implementation of the Canada-Mexico Air Transport Agreement that was reached in 2011.

China Southern Picture Your Selfie Sweepstakes To celebrate the introduction of its Dreamliner service to YVR last month, China Southern (CZ) launched a “Picture Your Selfie” sweepstakes with a Grand Prize of two First Class round-trip tickets to Guangzhou, China.

On February 19, 21, 23, 25 and 27, CZ pop-up checkin counters were located at five secret locations throughout Vancouver and Richmond. Clues about the locations were released on radio and TV. Contestants took selfie photos at one of these check-in counter locations and submitted

the photo to @yvrairport via Twitter or Instagram with hashtag #CZselfie. Photos were also submitted by email.

Finalists were randomly selected at the close of each contest day, and the Grand Prize winner was chosen from that pool of finalists.

Air Canada, Canada’s flag carrier, welcomed the signing of the agreement, which it says will facilitate flying between the two countries and benefit business, travellers and shippers.

“Mexico is an important market for Air Canada and this expanded agreement will further strengthen air linkages between Canada and our NAFTA partner,” said Derek Vanstone, vice president of corporate strategy, industry and government affairs at Air Canada.

“Among other things, it provides an open framework for direct flights introduces more commercial flexibility and contains provisions for safety and security. This is an important agreement and we encourage the federal government to take the next step to build travel and tourism between Canada and Mexico and relax visa requirements for Mexican citizens visiting Canada in order that we can derive the full benefit of this agreement.

“More generally, the agreement also accords with Air Canada’s desire for liberalized air agreements with large and important markets to expand air services and access in order to provide greater choice, convenience and travel opportunities for all Canadians, whether for business or leisure,” said Vanstone.

The agreement is consistent with Canada’s Blue Sky policy, which encourages long-term, sustainable competition and the development of new or expanded international air services. Under this policy, the Government of Canada has concluded new or expanded air transport agreements with more than 80 countries.

For decades, the A and B piers at YVR have been providing services ranging from retail services, baggage systems to gate connections for domestic carriers. In order to meet the growing needs of passengers and YVR’s airline partners, an upgrade and revamp of these areas is part of the airport’s 10-year Gateway strategy.

This upgrade, called the A-B Connector Project, which is currently underway, is one of the airport’s biggest projects being undertaken. When completed, it will see the complete overhaul of the A and B piers to feature faster connector processes, upgraded baggage systems, expanded gates and improved amenities and retail services.

Cargojet awarded Canada Post Group domestic air cargo contract

Cargojet’s state-of-the-art B757-200ER freighter is capable of carrying a structural payload of up to 36,000-plus kilograms, utilizing 15 upper deck positions and loose load lower hold cargo compartments.

Cargojet has been awarded a multi-year contract to provide domestic air cargo services to Canada Post and its Purolator division.

Projected revenues for Cargojet are estimated to be approximately $1-billion during the initial seven-year agreement, based on projected volumes.

“Cargojet is extremely pleased to have been successfully chosen as the exclusive primary domestic air cargo service provider to the Canada Post Group of Companies,” said Ajay Virmani president and CEO of Cargojet.

“Cargojet operates an extensive overnight air cargo model, which will provide the most cost-effective and scalable solution to the Canada Post Group of Companies.

Cargojet’s domestic overnight network will be expanded and enhanced to handle the additional volumes and provide a virtual dedicated air cargo network to the Canada Post Group of Companies.

Canada Post is undergoing a major transformation as customer demand shifts from mail to parcel delivery through online shopping.

“This move will drive operational efficiencies, lower our transportation costs and help ensure our parcel delivery remains competitive from a cost and reliability perspective,” said Jacques Côté, group president, physical delivery network, Canada Post.

In January, Cargojet announced that it is phasing out the operation of its older generation B727-200F freighter aircraft on its domestic overnight network and replacing them with newer generation B757200 Extended Range Freighter Aircraft.

Cargojet has already taken delivery of two B757-200ER aircraft and another two will be entering its fleet in mid-2014.

United Airlines to cut 84 jobs in Vancouver, 240 across Canada U.S.-based United Airlines will lay off 240 employees across Canada by outsourcing the positions, which include customer service agents, fuelling staff and ramp agents, starting in May 2014.

United’s Vancouver operations will lose 84 jobs, Calgary will lose 61 positions and Toronto will see 95 job losses.

The workers being cut in Vancouver and Calgary are members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers union.

Known in Canada as International Experience Canada (IEC), the youth mobility program provides opportunities for Irish citizens between the ages of 18 and 35 to travel and work in Canada for up to 24 months.

in Ireland.

The participants benefit from these opportunities by gaining a better understanding of the other country’s culture and society through their work and life experiences abroad.

Overcoming the fear of flying Soon after Layne Daggett became YVR’s airport chaplain in1983, he also began a program for people with a fear of flying. In addition to being airport chaplain, Daggett’s master’s degree in counseling, his affinity for aviation—he soloed while still a teenager—and his compassion and concern for people were the perfect attributes for him to personalize a fear of flying of program.

One of the first people to experience the program was Anne Robinson. Anne and her husband Dr. John Robinson had been passengers on a Trans Canada flight that went off the end of the runway at London’s Heathrow airport in 1963. As a result of that incident, Anne had not flown for more than two decades. One of the consequences of her fear of flying was not being able to arrive home in time for the deaths of her parents in England, since she could only travel via oceanliner and train.

Since graduating from the course, Anne, who is now a Friday volunteer at the Airport Chapel, has flown approximately 43 times to destinations such as England, Hawaii, California, Arizona, Ontario, Israel, France

and Ireland.

“Although I will never truly love to fly, as a result of Layne’s help I am at least able to cope and it has opened up a whole new world for me,” said Anne.

Air Canada has become Anne’s airline of choice because the airline provided her desensitizing “walk-on” experience and on which she took her “graduation” flight.

A more recent graduate of Daggett’s Fear of Flying Program has taken a dozen flights with Cathay Pacific because of the comfortable connection she has built with the airline.

United, Air New Zealand, Hawk Air, Sea Air and West Jet have also augmented the fear of flying program.

Since his retirement from his day-to-day duties at the Airport Chapel, Daggett, who has been honoured with the title of YVR Chaplain Emeritus, has had more time to develop and expand his fear of flying program, which affects a significant minority of the population.

“Visualize a typical Bell Curve,” said Daggett. “At one end of the spectrum there is about 10 per cent of the population who would rather fly than

do anything else in life. On the other end of the spectrum there is about 10 per cent of the population, who absolutely refuse to fly because of their phobia. They represent a huge loss of revenue for the industry because not only do they not fly, often their family members will be forced to take other methods of travel for vacations, reunions, conferences and even business.

The remaining 80 per cent between the two extremes vary from reluctant, white-knuckled passengers to people who are quite content to fly.”

Sophie, a recent graduate, described her experience with the program. “Let me start by saying I would thoroughly recommend this course. Layne takes a personal interest in seeing you fly without fear. I can’t say enough about how much this course has helped me. Layne takes the time to ease you into being a more comfortable flyer, with visits to the departure terminal, walk-ons with various airlines and equipment, the opportunity to meet with crew and ask questions, watching flying educational videos, and sharing with others in the group—all of which helped me overcome my

Stay healthy while travelling Every year more and more Canadians travel—for business, vacation, to volunteer or to visit friends and family. Whatever your reason for travelling, it is important to be prepared and protected when it comes to your health—and the health of others—while you are travelling.

No one wants to think about getting sick or hurt during a trip, but sometimes these things happen. You may not be able to prevent every illness or injury, but you can plan ahead to be able to deal with them.

Be proactive If you are on medications review your dosage schedules with your doctor or pharmacist, especially if you’ll be crossing time zones, since you may have to take your medications at different times. For example, if you have diabetes and need to use insulin while travelling eastward across two or more time zones, you may require less intermediate or longacting insulin.

If you are travelling to another country, visit travelhealth.gc.ca to see if you need special protection against disease in the country you will be visiting.

Some medications can make you more sensitive to the sun and heat, check labels for warnings or ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Medications should be stored away from direct sunlight or high heat. A beach bag, a car’s trunk or a glove compartment are not good places to keep medications.

For example, insulin can be kept up to 30 days at room temperature, but degrades at higher temperatures.

Do not put your medications in checked luggage. Keep them with you and bring enough to last the whole trip—if you go on an outing, carry along a day’s supply.

Pack essential medication in two different pieces of hand luggage, just in case one becomes lost or stolen. This way you will have back-up and not be left without your important medication while abroad.

Keep a list of all the medications you take (include the names, dosages, directions), your doctors’ phone numbers and your health insurance information.

To avoid problems with customs, carry a note from your health care provider describing the types of medications you are using along with a copy of

your prescriptions. Clearly labels all your medications with your full name (as on your passport), pharmacy name, and the name and dose of the medication. The same applies needles or preloaded syringes.

Be prepared Consider the place you will be visiting and how easy it will be to access a pharmacy for over-the-counter and prescription medications you may need if you become ill or are injured.

As an alternative, put together a travel first-aid kit containing some of the following medications and products: • antihistamines for use if a mild allergic reaction occurs • a painkiller such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen • medications for motion sickness and nausea • anti-diarrhea medications • anti-infective ear drops for swimmer’s ear (bacterial infection in the ear) • an antibacterial cream for cuts, insect bites, and burns • a course of antibiotics that is prescribed by a doctor • insect repellent • hand sanitizer • thermometer • bandages and gauze.

parasites can cause illnesses in humans if ingested. Here are two common waterborne diseases that could ruin your vacation: Cryptosporidiosis (criptoh-spore-id-ee-oh-sis). The symptoms include diarrhea, headache, nausea, and stomach cramps. It can show up 2 to 25 days after becoming infected and the symptoms usually last for 1 to 2 weeks.

Giardiasis (jee-ar-dye-a-sis), also known as “beaver fever.”

It shares similar symptoms with cryptosporidiosis. Symptoms include diarrhea, gas, stomach cramps, headache, weakness, vomiting, chills and weight loss.

Symptoms first show up 6 to 16 days after becoming infected and can last for as long as one month.

Preventing water- and food-borne diseases Use bottled water only, or boil water at least one minute before using it. Alternatively, you can purify water with iodine tablets or special water filters.

Don’t brush your teeth, wash dishes, fruits, vegetables, or use ice cubes made with water that hasn’t been purified.

Peel raw fruits and vegetables before you eat them.

Wash your hands with bottled or purified water only and do it carefully several times a day.

Don’t swallow water when you’re swimming, even in a chlorinated swimming pool since chlorine does not kill all germs.

One easy way to remember how to keep safe: “Boil it, cook it, peel it, or leave it!”

If you think you have cryptosporidiosis or giardiasis, see your doctor right away. You may need to give stool samples to see if you have the parasite, and then get treated with prescription medications to get rid of it for good.

Some diseases picked up while travelling can also be a result of the food you eat.

Traveller’s diarrhea, usually caused by E. coli bacteria, is one common infection encountered on trips abroad. It is characterized by stomach cramps, nausea, and several runny stools. It is more serious if these symptoms are accompanied by fever and pus or blood in the stool.

Avoid eating from street vendors and consuming unpasteurized dairy products or under-cooked foods.

Dehydration is a complication of traveller’s diarrhea. Speak with a doctor or pharmacist about the use of oral rehydration solutions to prevent dehydration, as well as the use of oral vaccines to prevent food-borne diseases or traveller’s diarrhea.

Sunwing Airlines first aircraft retrofitted with new fuel-efficiency Split Scimitar Winglets has begun service.

Designed by Aviation Partners Boeing (APB), the Split Scimitar Winglet modification replaces the aluminum winglet tip cap of the 737 Next Generation blended winglet with an aerodynamically shaped scimitar winglet tip cap and adds a new scimitar-tipped ventral strake on the winglet’s outboard lower side.

This winglet design improves upon the aerodynamic efficiency of APB’s blended winglet, enabling an estimated two per cent extra reduction in fuel

consumption, in addition to the five per cent savings blended winglets provide over an aircraft with no winglets.

According to APB, split scimitar winglets installed on a provisioned 737-800 will save a typical airline more than 170,000-plus litres of jet fuel per aircraft per year.

Sunwing is the first airline in Canada and follows United Airlines to be the second in the world to commercially fly the second-generation Split Scimitar Blended Winglets.

“We feel we have a responsibility as a market leader in Canada to continue

investing in technology which reduces our environmental impact,” said Mark Williams, president of Sunwing Airlines. “Sunwing has the lowest CO2 emissions per seat mile of any major airline in Canada and this new initiative will lower our emissions even further.”

Sunwing will retrofit its entire fleet of 737-800s with the new winglets by the end of May 2014.

Nearly 5,000 first generation Blended Winglet Systems are now in service with more than 200 airlines in more than 100 countries.

March is Fraud Prevention Month

March is Fraud Prevention Month, a campaign aimed at raising awareness and preventing Canadians from becoming victims of fraud. By putting a face on fraud we can recognize it, report it and stop it.

If a retail clerk took a good look at your $20 polymer bill, would you be offended? You shouldn’t. That clerk knows that routine note checking may just prevent a counterfeit from ending up in your change.

It’s a good habit we should all take up. Each time you accept a bill without checking it, you’re taking a risk.

There have been very few counterfeits of the Polymer series since their introduction more than two years ago, but all bank notes are secure only if they’re checked.

Recognize it Spotting a counterfeit depends on knowing your genuine bills. Feel, look and flip is a phrase that is a good reminder on how to check the security features of polymer notes.

Feel the smooth, unique texture. It’s made from a single piece of polymer with some transparent areas.

Look for transparency

through the large window and the outline of the frosted maple leaf window. Also, look at the details in the metallic portrait and building in the large window.

Flip the note to see the features in the large window repeated in the same colours and detail on the other side.

The Polymer series is the most secure issue yet. So if you have doubts about a paper note, refuse it and ask for a polymer note instead.

Stop it If you notice a suspicious bill after the fact—you check your wallet and one of your

bills doesn’t look quite right— give it to your local police for examination. If it turns out to be real, you’ll get it back.

Whatever you do, don’t pass it on. It’s a criminal offence to knowingly pass counterfeit cash on to someone else.

Fraud, identity theft and other types of scams can happen anywhere—through counterfeit cash, in your mailbox or recycle bin, via email or on the telephone.

Protect personal information on physical mail Shred any documents that contain personal financial

information such as statements and credit card offers.

Never discard mail with any personal information on it in the recycling bin.

Avoid leaving mail unattended or uncollected from your mailbox for an extended period as this could make it a target for thieves.

If mail has been delivered incorrectly or if the addressee does not live at your address, please write “delivered to wrong address” or “not at this address” on the front of the envelope and deposit in the red street letterbox at your earliest convenience.

Digital mail security If you keep a copy of your electronic bills, sign up with epost and keep all bills and statements in one secure location for which you’ll have to remember only one username and one password.

Use a service such as Vault from epost to safely store important personal information such as passwords, bank account information, passport, will and medical history.

Hold Mail and Mail Forwarding services If you are planning a holiday, arrange for someone to pick up your mail or use Canada Post’s Hold Mail service to ensure your mail is held safely while

you’re away.

If you are moving, use Canada Post’s Mail Forwarding service to guarantee that your mail won’t be delivered to the new occupants of your old address.

Fraud–related offences are now thought to be as profitable as drug–related offences, estimated at between $10- and $30-billion annually in Canada by the RCMP’s Commercial Crime Branch.

Canjet plans to launch its own tour operation

Canjet president Stephen Rowe has told staff that the airline has received “tentative executive approval” to launch its own tour operation, starting next winter.

The Halifax-based airline currently has a fiveyear contract with tour operator Transat, which is set to expire at the end of April 2014.

Canjet provides Transat with a fleet of 13 Boeing 737s, as well as pilots and crew.

Canjet says it plans to utilize six of its aircraft for its own tour operation, in addition to continuing to operate one aircraft in summer and two in winter for Transat.

CanJet said it would also be operating in Europe on behalf of Poland’s Itaka.

Pending board approval, CanJet’s new tour operation will be named CanJet Vacations or CanJet Holidays.

Richmond City Council contributes thousands of dollars to local organizations Almost $790,000 in grants are being issued by the City of Richmond to numerous local organizations that provide important services and programs to enhance the lives of Richmond residents.

City Council unanimously approved the grant distribution at a February 2014 Council meeting.

“Council is committed to providing ongoing support of community service organizations through the City’s Grant Program,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie.

“Aimed at supporting the enhancement of a positive quality of life for all its residents, the Grant Program goals include building community and organization capacity to deliver programs; promoting partnerships and financial cost sharing among the City, other funders and organizations; and helping to achieve Council Term Goals and adopted strategies.

Richmond’s grants fall under four categories: • Arts and Culture

• Child Care • Health, Social and Safety • Parks, Recreation and Community Events.

The City calls for applications from organizations annually and this year a new convenient streamlined online application process was launched. Applications are reviewed based on program-specific criteria.

Long-term recipients are eligible to apply for multi-year funding, approved on an annual basis for up to three years.

Once funds are granted, the successful recipients are required to complete an endof-year final report, including evaluation results.

The Grant Program is funded mainly through casino revenue-sharing funds and does not impact the City’s operating budget or property taxes.

Boeing, China Southern Airlines celebrate first 777-300ER delivery

Boeing has delivered the first 777-300ER (Extended Range) to China Southern Airlines, Asia’s largest airline in fleet size and number of passengers carried.

The new airplane is the first of 10 777-300ERs China Southern has on order with Boeing.

“The 777-300ER’s longhaul capability is a perfect fit for our network expansion plans as it will enable us serve our existing long-range markets more efficiently and open new routes

in the future,” said Zhang Zifang, chief operating officer, China Southern Airlines.

China Southern has configured its new 777300ER to feature four distinct cabins. On board passengers will find four first class seats, 34 business class seats, 44 premium economy seats and 227 economy seats, for a total of 309 passengers.

China Southern Airlines, based in Guangzhou, has been

a Boeing customer for 25 years.

In 2013, China Southern was the first Chinese carrier to operate 787 Dreamliner. The airline was the first carrier in Asia to operate the 777 in 1995 and the first to operate 777s on nonstop routes across the Pacific Ocean.

China Southern was the first Chinese carrier to take direct delivery of the 757-200, 777200, 777-200ER (Extended Range), 777 Freighter and 747400 Freighter from Boeing.

We enjoyed a hike into the Kilauea Iki crater from which lava spouted in 1959. As the sun set, we watched the steam go red as it reflected the liquid lava in the crater below.

Another highlight of our visit was a visit to Punaluu Black Sand Beach—black because of the volcanic activity. The protected Hawaiian Green Sea turtles can be seen basking on the beach.

A plan to take a Mauna Kea summit tour was foiled by snow.

We went instead to the scenic temple site of Pu’ukohola Heiau near Kawaihae.

Our trip included a flight to Honolulu on Hawaiian Airlines, where we took a shuttle bus to a boutique hotel in the Waikiki area. From our deck we could see Kuhio Beach, made famous by Deborah Kerr in the movie From Here to Eternity.

We returned to YVR on our West Jet flight in only five hours, with memories of long beaches, crystal-clear bays, waterfalls, exotic flowers and volcanoes— all things quintessentially Hawaiian.

China Southern’s first 777-300ER as it takes off from Paine Field in Everett, Washington, last month.

The winter months in Vancouver are a perfect time to escape to Hawaii and with WestJet offering daily flights from Vancouver to Kailua-Kona (KOA), my wife and I decided it would be an ideal holiday destination.

In U.S. departures at YVR, we found the new automatic, form-free, customs system userfriendly and from there headed to gate E79 to catch WS1882, a Boeing 737-800 LR. My visits to KOA began with business trips in the ‘80s, when Montreal-based Alcan explored the use of aluminium heat exchangers in ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) as a means to produce power with lower carbon emissions, so it was only natural that our first visit was to the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority (NELHA).

Hawaii firm Makai Engineering is working on OTEC just a few feet from where Alcan equipment had once been.

After visiting with some of Makai’s team, we proceeded to the public visitor centre that NELHA manages. Here, three pipelines run to depths of up to 900 metres and the cold, sterile, nutrient-rich seawater is used by tenants to grow marine products. Included on the site are 38 hectares of colourful algae-producing ponds visible from the air. Today, 450 people work where there was once barren lava. Buildings are airconditioned by the seawater and that concept is used by the City of Toronto in its Deep Lake Water Cooling system.

Kona and the Big Island of Hawaii offer an incredible variety of activities. We drove to Keauhou Bay to take a tour boat to spectacular snorkeling in the otherwise hard-to-access Kealakekua Bay, where Captain James Cook met his end.

The Pu’uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park on the west coast of the island includes both a sanctuary and royal enclosure. There are huge stones made famous by visitors such as Mark Twain who told the story of the Ka’ahumanu Stone in his Letters from Hawaii.

The inaugural Diversity Award, developed by Airbus in partnership with the Global Engineering Deans Council (GEDC), was won by Ana Lazarin (standing, right) for her recruitment and retention programmes to increase the number of under-represented minority students in Wichita State University’s College of Engineering.

Aircraft manufacturer Airbus and the Global Engineering Deans Council (GEDC) have launched a call for nominations for the second Diversity Award.

The objective of the award is to recognize individuals who have been proactive in bringing more diversity into engineering schools and universities.

In addition, it rewards initiatives which encourage young people of all profiles and backgrounds to study and succeed in engineering. The Award was developed and funded by Airbus in partnership with the GEDC, a leading international organization for engineering education.

The long term aim is to increase diversity among the global community of engineers so that the engineering industry reflects the diversity of the communities it supports, with diversity recognised as a driver for innovation and growth.

It will also ensure that more students have the opportunity to experience and value working in diverse teams during their studies and inspire them to join a profession which offers exciting career opportunities around the world.

“Airbus was built on diversity, we started with diverse nations, diverse cultures,” said Charles Champion, Airbus executive vice president engineering. “Today, we take diversity into account when hiring engineers. And the lesson is that diversity is an asset; it boosts the innovation mind-set that we need to develop the future of aviation. We want to inspire the next generation to take up engineering and we are working with engineering schools around the world to achieve that long term goal.”

In October 2013, the inaugural Diversity Award went to Ana Lazarin from Wichita State University (WSU), USA, for her outreach, recruitment and retention programs which have increased the number of underrepresented minority students in the College of Engineering at WSU by 91 per cent over the last 5 years.

Lazarin was selected from a global pool of candidates and received US$10,000 from Airbus to support her work in this field.

“The growing demand for engineers worldwide means we must attract more talented young people to the industry” said John Beynon, Dean of Engineering, University of Adelaide, Australia and Chair of the GEDC. “The finalists for the first award were recognized for their remarkable commitment in creating initiatives that made a real difference in attracting a more diverse group of students to study and complete engineering degrees. We are looking forward to hearing from more inspiring nominees for this year’s award.”

Nominations for this second award will close in June with the recipient to be announced at the World Engineering Education Forum in Dubai in December 2014.

The award is open to any individual working with or in an engineering college or faculty, who has demonstrated tangible results in bringing more diversity among the engineering students and/or graduates.

Last month at the 2014 Singapore Airshow, Viking Air of Sidney, B.C., captured multiple sales of its DHC-6 Twin Otter Series 400.

Viking Air specializes in de Havilland products and started production of the Twin Otter in 2010. It has made more than 400 modifications to the Twin Otter after acquiring the de Havilland aircraft design from Bombardier.

The planes have a base price of $6.95-million, but prices vary depending on the number of planes ordered and extra equipment.

Viking Air has delivered more than 50 Twin Otters since production of the redesigned aircraft and has a two-year backlog of 50 planes on order.

The company, which employs more than 600 at its manufacturing facility at the Victoria International Airport and an assembly facility in Calgary, is now producing a plane every 10 business days.

JOIN OUR TEAM AS A FUELING SUPERVISOR The Fueling Supervisor is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the fueling operation on his/her shift, while ensuring that customer standards and contractual services are met.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Directly supervises all employees on the Ramp on a daily basis.

• Guides and directs employees in the effective execution of duties, assists in problem solving and ensures that all Company health and safety policies are enforced.

• Must have supervisory experience (in a unionized environment, an asset).

• Knowledge of into-plane fueling and GSE fueling, as well as familiarity with equipment such as hydrants and tanker refuelers; an asset.

• Must possess a minimum Class 5BC Provincial Driver Licence, Class 1 is preferred.

• Available and flexible to work 24/7 on various shifts (day, evening, weekends and holidays).

• Meet Transport Canada requirements stipulated in the ‘Airport Restricted Area Access Clearance Program’.

• Must possess the ability to react quickly and make decisions which do not negatively impact operations and service levels.

• Strong leadership skills, excellent interpersonal skills and well organized.

• Ability to multi task and work well under pressure.

This position is located at the Vancouver International Airport. It is a unionized position, full-time and the hourly rate is $21.00.
