During the most challenging time the world’s community has ever faced, Vancouver Airport Authority is expressing thanks and recognition to the dedicated workers who continue to ensure the safety and security of travellers and members of the airport community. Gratitude goes to airline staff, security and enforcement partners and all those working on the frontline at the airport, providing help to Canadians returning home and ensuring the move-
ment of essential goods, such as food and medical supplies. Thank you to YVR’s commercial partners and ground transportation providers for continuing to provide their services, including the cleaning team who work diligently to sanitize the terminals and maintain a clean environment for all who pass through. To all those working on the airfield, in the terminal and beyond, thank you for your contribution and ongoing response in the face of this pandemic.
Recognition is also extended to those working behind the scenes at YVR—in operations, communications, and more— who continue to work with government authorities to implement new measures to combat the spread of COVID-19. To public health authorities and frontline health professionals, thank you for your ongoing direction on how to respond to this global pandemic to ensure the safety of travellers. Vancouver Airport Authority acknowledges that these unchartered
skies could not have been navigated without the unwavering support of all those in the airport community, especially since many employees have adjusted their daily routines to take on new roles and responsibilities. Although there is a lot of uncertainty right now, blue skies are ahead and, together with the airport community, we will get through this difficult time. Thank you to the entire YVR and Sea Island community, and please stay safe.
Transport Canada’s new requirements on face coverings for travellers/airport employees Effective immediately, Transport Canada is requiring all air passengers to have a non-medical mask or face covering to cover their mouth and nose during travel. Travellers will be asked to cover their mouth and nose at airport screening points, when they cannot physically distance from others, or as directed by airline employees or public health officials. In addition to travellers, airport employees going through all security screening checkpoints also need to don face coverings. The Public Health Agency of Canada has recently recommended the use of a non-medical mask or facial covering as an additional measure the public can take to protect others. Wearing a non-medical mask or face covering is another way of covering the mouth and nose to prevent
respiratory droplets from contaminating others or landing on surfaces. Passengers on all flights departing or arriving at Canadian airports will also be required to demonstrate
they have the necessary non-medical mask or face covering during the boarding process otherwise they will not be allowed to continue their journey. The Public Health Agency of

Three Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, the largest in Air Canada’s fleet are being modified to transport cargo in the passenger cabin, doubling cargo capacity.
Air Canada is reconfiguring the cabins of three of its Boeing 777-300ER aircraft to give them additional cargo capacity. The first aircraft conversion is complete and is now in service, with the second and third aircraft to be completed shortly. Air Canada’s engineering team worked around the clock to oversee the conversion work, and with Transport Canada to ensure
all work was certified as tasks were completed. “Bringing critical medical and other vital supplies rapidly to Canada and helping distribute them across the country is imperative to combating the COVID-19 crisis,” said Tim Strauss, vice president – Cargo at Air Canada. “The transformation of the Boeing 777-300ERs, our largest international wide-body
aircraft, doubles the capacity of each flight and will enable more goods to move more quickly.” The three Boeing 777-300ER aircraft are being converted by Avianor, an aircraft maintenance and cabin integration specialist, at Air Canada’s MontrealMirabel facility. Avianor developed a specific engineering solution to remove 422 passenger seats and
designate cargo loading zones for light weight boxes containing medical equipment and restrained with cargo nets. This modification has been developed, produced and implemented within six days. Through its cargo division, Air Canada has been using mainline aircraft that would otherwise be parked to operate cargo-only flights. The aircraft on these flights carry no passengers but move in their baggage holds time-sensitive shipments, including urgent medical supplies, and goods to support the global economy.
Air Canada has operated 40 all-cargo flights since March 22, 2020 and plans to operate up to 20 all-cargo flights per week using a combination of the three newly converted Boeing 777s, Boeing 787s and Boeing 777s, in addition to current scheduled flights to London, Paris, Frankfu rt, Hong Kong. Air Canada Cargo has been working with its supply chain partners and shippers to transport medical supplies from Asia and Europe to Canada and will continue exploring additional opportunities as needed in all regions of the globe.

During the COVID-19 crisis, Vancouver Airport Authority is asking that only essential travellers or airport workers come to the airport. If you’re picking up or dropping off passengers, please stay outside the terminal wherever possible. Picking Up: When picking up passengers, there is a complimentary Cell Phone Waiting Area located on Aviation Avenue. Please wait there until your passengers are ready for pick-up in one of two passenger pickup areas (Domestic or International) on the Arrivals level. The Cell Phone Waiting Area has more than 80 stalls, 30 minutes of free parking, complimentary WiFi and is a short distance to the terminal.
Dropping Off: For those dropping off passengers, YVR’s departure level curb is available for immediate drop-offs. Please provide your guests with any assistance getting from your car to the curb, but please stay outside of the airport. Complimentary luggage carts are available curbside to assist all travellers moving through the airport. Lastly, while a limited number of food and beverage options remain available pre-security, these options remain open for essential travellers and airport workers only. We all have a role to play during this pandemic and these measures are designed to keep passengers, workers and infrastructure safe at YVR.
WestJet updates domestic flight schedule WestJet is making changes to its domestic flight schedule, removing approximately 4,000 weekly flights or 600 daily flights from May 5 through June 4, 2020. Provincial city pairs departing from Vancouver that have been temporarily removed from May 5-June 4, 2020 are as follows: • Vancouver – Nanaimo • Vancouver – Comox • Vancouver – Regina • Vancouver – Saskatoon • Vancouver – Winnipeg • Vancouver – Fort St. John
• Vancouver – Cranbrook • Vancouver – Ottawa • Vancouver – Montreal These changes are required to address significantly reduced guest demand during the COVID-19 crisis. While some city pairings have been temporarily removed, the airline continues to serve the 38 Canadian airports to which its currently operates in order to ensure that those with essential travel requirements can get where they need to be and that essential cargo goods, such as blood, medi-
cal products and food supplies, can continue to flow. The overall demand for travel remains fluid during this ongoing pandemic and WestJet is continuing to evaluate further reductions. All transborder and international routes remain suspended at this time through June 4, 2020. WestJet is proactively notifying guests with travel booked after May 5 through June 4 of their options. Bookings and full schedule details are available at westjet. com.

Terminal operations update As airport operations have slowed due to COVID-19, areas of the terminal have been brought together to conserve resources at YVR. Changes have been made to domestic check-in and international passenger pre-board screening. Flying within Canada?
Domestic check-in and baggage drop-off have been moved to the International Terminal. This impacts the following airlines: • Air Canada • WestJet • Air Transat • Flair Airlines • Air North The Domestic Terminal check-in and baggage drop-off area on departures level 3 is temporarily closed. Once checked-in, passengers head to the C-Gates checkpoint for pre-board security screening. Flying Internationally (not including the U.S.)?
Check-in and baggage dropoff process stays the same at the International Terminal. Please note, once you have checked-in, you will now go to the Domestic Terminal C-Gates checkpoint for pre-board security screening, then walk to your International Terminal gate after security. The international pre-
board screening checkpoint is temporarily closed. Flying to the U.S.?
Your process does not change. Check-in and drop your bags off at the U.S. Terminal, then head to pre-board security and US Customs. These terminal changes include closing all washroom and retail, food and beverage outlets in the impacted areas. Changes to retail, food and beverage are happening daily, and tenants are trying their best to match operating hours with flight schedules to ensure services are available for passengers. All food and beverage outlets pre-security in the International Terminal are closed. Select operators remain open pre-security in the Domestic Terminal on Level 3 (food court) and Level 1 as well as Hudson News (see Food & Beverage article on page 3). Wayfinding signage is placed at curbside drop-off and throughout the terminal to re-direct passengers, and customer care representatives are stationed in certain areas to answer questions. If any assistance is required, please contact YVR’s 24/7 customer care team at 604-207-7077 or pick up any courtesy telephone throughout the airport.

Air Canada temporarily suspends transborder U.S. flights
Starting April 27, Air Canada is suspending scheduled service to the U.S., as a result of an agreement between the governments of Canada and the United States to extend border restrictions by an additional 30 days. Since March 16, 2020 Air Canada has reduced its schedule by more than 90 per cent as a result of COVID-19. Following the initial announcement of U.S.Canada travel restrictions on March 21, Air Canada maintained limited service to 11 U.S. destinations from its three Canadian hubs, primarily to facilitate the repatriation of Canadians.
The last scheduled commercial flight from the U.S. to Canada will be on April 26. The airline is waiving change fees for affected customers with bookings during this period to enable them to reschedule their travel with no additional fee. Air Canada plans to resume service to the U.S. on May 22, subject to any further government restrictions beyond that date. Customers can find more information about Air Canada’s rebooking policies, revised schedule and the airline’s COVID-19 response at aircanada.com.

Sunwing donates thousands of meals to food programs across Canada
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Sunwing has operated more than 400 repatriation flights to approximately 45 destinations at a cost of more than $26 million.
Emirates, in coordination with Dubai Health Authority (DHA), has become the first airline to conduct on-site rapid COVID-19 tests for passengers. Canadian leisure airline Sunwing is donating more than 46,000 meals to 17 communities across Canada as part of a new national partnership with Second Harvest, the largest food rescue organization in Canada. “We know Canadians are worried about their health and safety, but they shouldn’t have to worry about putting food on the table,” said Stephen Hunter, CEO of Sunwing Travel Group. “Working with an incredible organization like Second Harvest gives us the opportunity to continue to help Canadians even as our operations are temporarily suspended. As a Canadian family-run business, we know what it means to look out for one another during moments of need, which is exactly what this partnership is all about.” Meals that will be provided through this partnership include
smoked meat sandwiches, pizza, sausage rolls and breakfast sandwiches, among other items. After suspending all flights in response to the spread of COVID-19 and the governmentimposed travel restrictions, Sunwing focused its efforts on helping support Canada’s collective pandemic response. The company’s airline employees and destination representatives sent more than 400 repatriation flights to 45 destinations across the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America and Florida to transport more than 60,000 Canadians, including 3,300 non-Sunwing customers, free of charge. The new partnership with Second Harvest, through its program FoodRescue.ca, will allow Sunwing to redirect all unused inflight meals to communities across Canada to support those most in need.

The second concept is a twofaced seat, Janus, that allows the middle passenger in a three-seat layout to sit in a reverse position to ensure the maximum isolation between passengers seated next to each other. While passengers seated on the side seats, aisle and fuselage, continue to be positioned in the direction of the aircraft’ cockpit, the passenger sitting in the center faces backwards. The Janus seat also allows all three passengers to be separated with a shield made of transparent material that isolates them from each other. Aviointeriors has filed patent applications for both designs, which are suitable for narrowand widebody aircraft.

We are open to serve you. These certainly are very interesting times; less than 2 weeks ago I had my suit case packed for a Caribbean cruise and now that and the idea of world travel seems like a distant memory. So many of our seemingly normal activities are put on hold. I hope that you are doing well and finding some peace through these uncertain times.
Open For Business
At Pawlik Automotive we are open for business and are grateful for that. While life has slowed down substantially, cars and trucks are still moving and will continue to need maintenance and repairs.
Sanitized Work Space Ford’s battery-powered Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 prototype.
It won’t hurt your ears and doesn’t use a drop of fuel, but it’s projected to crush the quarter mile in the low-8-second range at more than 170mph. For the first time ever, Ford Performance introduces a one-off Mustang Cobra Jet factory drag racer with all-electric propulsion. The battery-powered Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 prototype is purpose-built and projected to deliver more than 1,400 horsepower and more than 1,100 ft.-lbs. of instant torque to demonstrate the capabilities of an electric powertrain in one of the most demanding race environments. “Ford has always used motorsport to demonstrate innovation,” said Dave Pericak, global director, Ford Icons. “Electric powertrains give us a completely new kind of performance and the all-
electric Cobra Jet 1400 is one example of pushing new technology to the absolute limit. We’re excited to showcase what’s possible in an exciting year when we also have the all-electric Mustang Mach-E joining the Mustang family.” Following the debut of the all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E SUV—the first-ever, allelectric Mustang, the Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 prototype represents another opportunity to advance Mustang heritage and performance, while simultaneously incorporating some of the most advanced technology coming to Ford’s future powertrains. Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 also honours the original Cobra Jet that first dominated drag strips in the late 1960s and still is a major force in sportsman drag racing today.
“This project was a challenge for all of us at Ford Performance, but a challenge we loved jumping into,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director, Ford Performance Motorsports. “We saw the Cobra Jet 1400 project as an opportunity to start developing electric powertrains in a race car package that we already had a lot of experience with, so we had performance benchmarks we wanted to match and beat right now. This has been a fantastic project to work on, and we hope the first of many coming from our team at Ford Performance Motorsports.” Ford Performance continues to test Cobra Jet 1400 ahead of its world debut later this year at a drag racing event where fans, media and competitors alike will get to meet the race car, as well as see exactly what it’s capable of up on the asphalt.

City of Richmond launches community spirit campaign
The City of Richmond has unveiled a campaign aimed at bringing residents, businesses and stakeholders together to show their support for those working to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. The campaign uses the hashtag #RichmondHasHeart and encourages the community to share their thoughts, ideas and images through social media posts, physical distance-appropriate appreciation activities and creative displays at home, at their business or in the community. “One of the elements of being a safe and resilient community is people coming together during difficult and challenging times to support each other and focus on the positive outcomes,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “With the #RichmondHasHeart campaign, we want to support and promote the wide range of initia-
tives many people are already taking across the city that are connecting and engaging residents, as well as showing support for our front line, essential services and health care workers and first responders.” In addition to the Twitter portion of the campaign for Richmond residents and others to share messages, other elements will include: • Decorating City Hall windows in the shape of a heart • Lighting the prominent Together public art sculpture outside the Minoru Centre for Active Living in blue, in keeping with the campaign’s colour theme • A call to local artists to present ideas for community-engaged projects that explore new and meaningful ways for residents to find connection while maintaining physical distancing protocols. Branded materials with the #RichmondHasHeart messaging will be available for download at Richmond.ca, along with ideas for people who would like to create short videos and other messages to be posted to social media sites.

The mist are droplets that can bee adjusted in size, between 5-50 microns. Once the fog encounters bacteria or viruses, either in the air or on surfaces, the pathogens are quickly killed or inactivated reducing the risk of infections n Our spray distances go up to 10 metres at an angle of up to 80°, which allows entire rooms to be rapidly treated in under 30 seconds n Service areas: Sea Island, Greater Vancouver, Whistler, Pemberton, Abbotsford, Kelowna.
