Everyone knows “Slink”. Slink changed us… all our hands and feet looked better… thank god! Siddean Munro is the genius behind the Slink brand. And, if you are as curious as SL Fierce in how this all happened…well…. “My brother put me onto SL in 2003, but, I really didn’t start using SL until 2007; and that was only after I saw a documentary about Anshe Chung. At that point, I thought I’d give SL another look / see in regard to what I could contribute to and to create. Turns out, to come back to SL was one of the better decisions I’ve made with my life!” As Siddean checked out the grid she realized that she couldn’t find exactly what she was looking for. “My look hasn’t changed too much over the years but that’s what made me realize that I had skills that I could develop. I also had a great interest in creating content that I could actually use in SL. Player made content in games and virtual worlds has interested me since then.” Slink started off as an idea, a few skins and December 2015 | SL Fierce Magazine

a black tee shirt. “I wanted to make everything, and eventually figured out the things I liked making the most were 3-D models, hairstyles, clothing, shoes, especially shoes. I started making shoes with sculpties in 2009, and really haven’t looked back from there :) Slink is what I like. I make clothing I find attractive and fun, I make accessories that would wear in both worlds.” Have you ever wondered what the word “slink” means to Siddean Munro… meow is the one word that comes to mind. “Slink is a word I like. It reminds me of beautiful Siamese cats (my cats are too tubby to really slink, they roll!), and gorgeous women in long bias cut satin dresses that hug their curves. I came up with “Slink” as a potential store name when I was first setting up and figuring things out, my husband designed my first logo, a black and white pixel word style, and it stuck :)” It is always interesting to have a peek into a a great SL creators mind… the mind of an innovator, and Siddean is always cutting edge and evolving in terms of the creative process. “For me, something that is handmade means I start with an idea, and a blank slate in Blender and Photoshop. I build my meshes up using sketches and photo references, from a single cube

or a single plane, and I make most of my textures from scratch using Photoshop and Zbrush and various methods for sculpting wrinkles and seams and stitching and details. Sometimes it’s just like building with real clay, which is why Hand Sculpted is the most appropriate term. How long it takes depends on what I am making and how much other content is relying on me getting it right. My mesh bodies took months of development, iterations, scripting, HUD design, testing and feedback and revisions, and they are pretty much a constant

Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot of time to socialize. I like video games, and board games, and science fiction and fantasy stories. I adore David Bowie and Laura Marling and Tool! In my spare time I draw fashion illustrations and portraits, and I paint tabletop miniatures for fun.” And as a helpful tidbit, don’t miss the sim next door to the Slink store sim, where you can pick up all kinds of cool Slink compatible content! Zoomy Bluebird is respected for her easy and approachable manner, and her sense of style as well as her sense of humor. Recently Zoomy won the coveted title of “Miss Colour of Couture 2015” and this is the story of her journey that got her there…and beyond.

Like most of us, Zoomy was intrigued by the endless options SL offers in clothes and jewelry. She likes to be well dressed and fashionable in both lives. With this in mind, Zoomy decided to become a jewelry and clothing store model. “While on the pose stand at the shop, I met Anjolique, another Zoomy was always an avid gamer. Her store model. I was very impressed with her first real foray into the virtual world was mannerisms and style. She suggested that I participating in WOW (World of Warcraft). “ pursue a career in SL high fashion modeling. For months on end, my friend tried to tear me I was completely in the dark about this since away from WOW so I could join her in SL. One I thought being on the pose stand was high night she caught me while I was drinking wine. fashion modeling! Going into more detail, With my resistance low, she talked me into Anjolique laid it all out for me making it trying SL, needless to say I left WOW behind and clear that I should strive higher, which is why never looked back.” I decided to sign up with my first modeling

school.”

Couture to bring awareness to the grid that Women of Colour are a force in SL Fashion and should be recognized and celebrated. Reign, along with a former Miss Colour of Couture, Spirit Llewellyn, and the current Miss Virtual World, Eleseren Brianna, were on hand every step of the way to guide and encourage contestants during the challenges of this contest.

As a self admitted fashionista, Zoomy believes that SL high fashion modeling enables to her express herself many creative ways and directions. “ I am crazy for clothing and felt an uncontrollable desire to express myself through them. With SL, there are no limits. I can put on whatever I want, wherever I want, and make the onlookers believe it was suppose to be there. I feel like an illusionist, only This year marked the second time Zoomy my feats of magic are demonstrated through entered the Colour of Couture contest. “ I fashion.” entered it again in order to challenge myself, not necessarily to win. You see, last years results The Colour of Couture was founded by Reign left me in a state of total meltdown. I blamed Congrejo Jameson, the owner of BOSL & the this person and that person when the fault lay MVW Organization. Reign created Colour of squarely on my own shoulders. I even left SL

for a short period of time; and in that time, I did a lot of soul searching. Who am I? What is most important to me and where exactly do I want to go? Once I had the answers to those questions, I came back to SL, taking it slow by entering photography. When Colour of Couture came around, I felt I was ready.” With a positive and confident outlook that often comes as a result of getting in touch with who you are and what your expectations are Zoomy decided that the motivation for her styling had to reflect this “epiphany”. “My inspiration was finding a way to brighten everyone’s day. I know that sounds rather corny, but it’s really the truth. I created the fashion genre Kawa Kouture because we all need a daily lift. Our first and extended lives can be grueling -- jobs, bills (tier), family, friends and their expectations-- the list goes on. Dressing in bright colors, mixing patterns and using fun accessories is my way of making others smile.” Zoomy concentrated her winning style on happiness... her clever interpretation obviously resonated with the judges…and dare I say, made them happy! “I wanted the main piece to be full and charming. When I saw Paisley Daisy’s Belltolle Lime Green Dress with Crinoline, I knew I’d found the perfect base. It was wide enough at the bottom to afford room for mixing and matching and narrow enough at the bodice for extra layering. And, layering I did, thanks to Wicca’s Wardrobe creating my signature piece called Zoomy Vest. It comes in many different colors and patterns, but I chose Pink Tartan. Pink Tartan with Lime Green? You betcha! But, wait...there’s more. Let’s not forget MM5 Rock Designs’ Touch Me Paint Pants with it’s texture HUD, MODA’s monstrous Rebellion Platform Boots, Gizza’s Forest Pixie TuTus used around the bottom of the dress, House of Beningborough’s Wildcard Hair topped with a Pink Polkadot Bold Ribbon created by NYU, October’s 4Seasons’ amazing Diva Gold Apple Eyeshadow and Watermelon Captivating Mesh Lashes......<takes a deep breath>....and the piece de resistance, Schadenfreude’s Waffle Ring which nearly stole the show! All of this and more combined together to create Kawa Kouture -- a fashion genre I’m quite happy with.” Zoomy looks at winning in a philosophical way. “To me, winning meant I’d defeated the most difficult candidate of all -- ME. We already know we are our own worst critics, but putting negative and self-defeating thoughts and actions

in their place is hard to do. Wallowing in self-pity destroys ones creativity and drive to reach higher goals. Winning the competition and becoming Miss Colour of Couture 2015 confirmed to me that the soul searching I mentioned earlier had paid off. NOW, I can help others with a clear mind, cool temperament and a kind heart.” With this in mind, Zoomy notes that future contestants should never compromise and should always stay true to themselves. Just as

48

SL Fierce Magazine | December 2015

importantly, contestants shouldn’t worry about other candidates – it is always important to remember that competitions are about you. This is sage advice indeed. As for fun, Zoomy always makes time to kick back and have some …why participate in SL if you can’t have a little fun! “I just discovered fishing a few months back and I must say I love it. One of my favorite places to drop my line is at Sn@tch. There, you can fish up complete outfits.

I usually fish up three or four and give them to the newer models on my friends list. This is my way of helping them build their wardrobe. I recently found Krafties. Yay! It’s a game similar to Pokemon where your pet battles other pets. It’s so much fun! My son makes fun of me, but I don’t care. Gotta catch ‘em all!” In terms of the future, Zoomy is currently participating in the 2016 MVW competition representing the Republic of Sierra Leone.

“This experience is giving me the opportunity to challenge myself once again and to take my styles to a higher level.” Zoomy is also looking forward her role as Miss Colour of Couture. “ I am excited about a charity event I will be organizing in the spring, 2016. This event will help raise the poverty line for many millions of people that are living on less than $1.50 a day. Beyond that, only the SL “Gawds” know. I like to keep my options open. Who knows what they have in store for me? <smiles>” December 2015 | SL Fierce Magazine

*MyLight Fashion Agency*, the new has had its inauguration show the 5th of November, entitled “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend”. The agency has been founded by LuceMia, together with Joys Cuttita and Caesar Langer, as a dream-come true project, born by their will to have a chance of putting in practice all their experiences and knowledge as graduated from most prestigious SL Academies, runway models, stylists, pageant contestants. It’ s been thought as a chance to develop our careers, to improve other skills, to share what we have learned throughout all these years of hard work and also on occasion to keep on learning by our collaborators. We felt like it was the right time to give another meaning to our long trainings, to the honors and prizes received, to the experiences achieved working with the all most known fashion organization on the grid. The purpose is bringing on a message of true elegance and correct, professional behaviour, assuring the designers willing to participate to our shows the professionalism of well trained and well known models actually active on SL. The inauguration show has been a very immersive experience. We were happy and honored to receive the support of such talented people supporting us with their availability. It’s been for us a great encouragement, and it’ s been exciting knowing that so many greatly skilled professionals were putting their trust in our work, even if not having any clue about what we would have been able to create. We decided immediately to tag them “Diamond” instead of models, cause we really would like anyone fell free to style as they feel it’s the best, and giving a chance to anyone to shine of the light that they prefer. They trusted us, and we

couldn’t have made a better choice trusting in them There has been times during which we were also wondering if we would have been good enough to menage all: the outfit assignments, the choreography, the building of the stage, the script, the music choice. But we had a great team and great designers, and we didn’t want to disappoint anyone of them, not even ourselves. The first show have been blessed by a crowd of average 55 people in the audience, much more than we expected. Walking on the simple, elegant catwalk built by Falbala Fairey, dominated by a giant diamond recalling the Agency Logo, our amazing models have performed in single and multiple walk as well to show at their best the creations of the sponsors: Giulia Design, Jumo, MdiModa, HallNails. The music chosen by Joys Cuttita have been amazingly spinned, faded and mixed by Paradox Messmer, amazing stylist, blogger, alternative artist and dj. As a backstage assistant we gave a chance to Ruby Ornamental to menage for the first time the timing of the walks, and she did much better than she even could imagine. Least but not last, a big thank again to the Diamonds that have shined with us, each of them presenting the outfit according to their sensibility: AddyOmena, Ch4ntal, Caesar Langer, Eleseren Brianna , Ellendir Khandr, Joys Cuttita, Layka63, LeezahKaddour, LuceMia, Naarnisse, SaianSamuel, ShazneyValentine, Zoomy Bluebird. All our gratitude to them, for being so patient, skilled, fast, professional, and for being able to create a warm familiar atmosphere, allowing us to work in relax and enjoying each moment of this process: this is only the beginning, now we know we can do it.
